Are the pipe reducer schematic symbols cluttering your plan views? Do you typically not show them in your plan
views/single line views? You can modify the pipe reducer family that comes with Revit MEP so they do not display
in plan view when you are in a course or medium detail level (single line pipe).
**Note: when modifying a family that comes out of the box (OOTB) with the software, it is always recommended
that you do a “save-as” and save the modified family in a directory other than the Imperial Library. This will prohibit
you from accidently over-writing the customized family when you receive an update.
1. Select the Reducer (Pipe Transition) and choose Edit Family from the Options Bar.

2. Once in the Family Editor, switch to a Ref. Level view (or a plan view)

3. Zoom to the center of the family

Note: If you can’t see the schematic symbol as clearly as shown in Figure 3 ensure that you do not have Thin Lines
toggled on from the View toolbar
4. Select the 2 vertical Symbolic Lines and delete them. (DO NOT DELETE the horizontal line)
5. Do a “save-as” to a new directory on your computer or network.
6. Select Load Into Projects from the Design Bar.

7. The Pipe reducers will no longer display in a Course or Medium detail level (single line pipe), but they will
be visible in a Fine detail level (double line pipe).
