Safety and regulatory guide 5 Take extra precautionsKeep the battery or device dry and away from water or any liquid as it may cause a short circuit. Keep metal objects away so they don’t come in contact with the battery or its connectors as it may lead to short circuit during operation. The phone should only be connected to products that bear the USB-IF logo or have completed the USB-IF compliance program.Do not use a battery that appears damaged, deformed, or discolored, or the one that has any rust on its casing, overheats, or emits a foul odor. Always keep the battery out of the reach of babies and small children, to avoid swallowing of the battery. Consult the doctor immediately if the battery is swallowed. If the battery leaks: Do not allow the leaking fluid to come in contact with skin or clothing. If already in contact, flush the aected area immediately with clean water and seek medical advice. Do not allow the leaking fluid to come in contact with eyes. If already in contact, DO NOT rub; rinse with clean water immediately and seek medical advice. Take extra precautions to keep a leaking battery away from fire as there is a danger of ignition or explosion. Safety precautions for direct sunlightKeep this product away from excessive moisture and extreme temperatures. Do not leave the product or its battery inside a vehicle or in places where the temperature may exceed 60°C (140°F), such as on a car dashboard, window sill, or behind a glass that is exposed to direct sunlight or strong ultraviolet light for extended periods of time. This may damage the product, overheat the battery, or pose a risk to the vehicle.Prevention of hearing lossCAUTION: Permanent hearing loss may occur if earphones or headphones are used at high volume for prolonged periods of time.•••••••••
6 Safety and regulatory guideSafety in aircraftDue to the possible interference caused by this product to an aircraft’s navigation system and its communications network, using this device’s phone function on board an airplane is against the law in most countries. If you want to use this device when on board an aircraft, remember to turn off your phone by switching to Airplane Mode.Environment restrictionsDo not use this product in gas stations, fuel depots, chemical plants or where blasting operations are in progress, or in potentially explosive atmospheres such as fuelling areas, fuel storehouses, below deck on boats, chemical plants, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, and areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust, or metal powders. Please be aware that sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death.Explosive atmospheresWhen in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere or where flammable materials exist, the product should be turned off and the user should obey all signs and instructions. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death. Users are advised not to use the equipment at refueling points such as service or gas stations, and are reminded of the need to observe restrictions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots, chemical plants, or where blasting operations are in progress. Using a phone while driving (even with a hands free kit) causes distraction and can lead to an accident. The use of this device is forbidden in most hospitals and medical clinics.If you use any other personal medical device, consult the manufacturer of your device to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF energy. Contact with the antenna area may impair call quality and cause your device to operate at a higher power level than needed. In most cases, this condition is normal and therefore should not be interpreted as a problem with the device.Heed service markingsExcept as explained elsewhere in the Operating or Service documentation, do not service any product yourself. Use a damp cloth for cleaning, but NEVER use water to clean the LCD screen. Small childrenDo not leave your phone and its accessories within the reach of small children or allow them to play with it. They could hurt themselves or others, or could accidentally damage the phone. Your phone contains small parts with sharp edges that may cause an injury or which could become detached and create a choking hazard.Repetitive motion injuriesTo minimise the risk of RSI, when Texting or playing games with your phone:Do not grip the phone too tightlyPress the buttons lightlyMake use of the special features in the handset which minimise the number of buttons which have to be pressed, such as message templates and predictive text.Take lots of breaks to stretch and relax. Operating machineryFull attention must be given to operating the machinery in order to reduce the risk of an accident.Electrostatic discharge (ESD)Do not touch the SIM card’s metal connectors. Loud noiseThis phone is capable of producing loud noises which may damage your hearing.Emergency callsThis phone, like any wireless phone, operates using radio signals, which cannot guarantee connection in all conditions. To ensure continued reliable and safe operation of your device, use only the accessories listed below with your PB65100.The Battery Pack has been assigned a model number of BB00100, BB96100.NOTE: This product is intended for use with a certified Class 2 Limited Power Source, rated 5 Volts DC, maximum 1 Amp power supply unit.Federal Communication Commission Interference StatementThis equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. Safety and regulatory guide 13 FCC Hearing-Aid Compatibility (HAC) Regulations for Wireless DevicesOn July 10, 2003, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Report and Order in WT Docket 01- 309 modified the exception of wireless phones under the Hearing Aid Compatibility Act of 1988 (HAC Act) to require digital wireless phones be compatible with hearing-aids. The intent of the HAC Act is to ensure reasonable access to telecommunications services for persons with hearing disabilities. While some wireless phones are used near some hearing devices (hearing aids and cochlear implants), users may detect a buzzing, humming, or whining noise. Some hearing devices are more immune than others to this interference noise, and phones also vary in the amount of interference they generate. The wireless telephone industry has developed a rating system for wireless phones, to assist hearing device users find phones that may be compatible with their hearing devices. Not all phones have been rated. Phones that are rated have the rating on their box or a label located on the box. The ratings are not guarantees. Results will vary depending on the user’s hearing device and hearing loss. If your hearing device happens to be vulnerable to interference, you may not be able to use a rated phone successfully. Trying out the phone with your hearing device is the best way to evaluate it for your personal needs.M-Ratings: Phones rated M3 or M4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to generate less interference to hearing devices than phones that are not rated. M4 is the better/higher of the two ratings. PB65100 is rated M3.T-Ratings: Phones rated T3 or T4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to be more usable with a hearing aid’s telecoil than phones that are not rated. T4 is the better/higher of the two ratings. PB65100 is rated T3.Please power off the Bluetooth function while using hearing aid devices with your PB65100.Hearing devices may also be rated. Your hearing device manufacturer or hearing health professional may help you find this rating. Higher ratings mean that the hearing device is relatively immune to interference noise.
14 Safety and regulatory guideThe hearing aid and wireless phone rating values are then added together. A sum of 5 is considered acceptable for normal use. A sum of 6 is considered for better use. A sum of 8 is considered for best use. In the above example, if a hearing aid meets the M2 level rating and the wireless phone meets the M3 level rating, the sum of the two values equal M5. This should provide the hearing aid user with “normal usage” while using their hearing aid with the particular wireless phone. “Normal usage” in this context is defined as a signal quality that is acceptable for normal operation.This methodology applies equally for T ratings. The M mark is intended to be synonymous with the U mark. The T mark is intended to be synonymous with the UT mark. The M and T marks are recommended by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industries Solutions (ATIS). The U and UT marks are referenced in Section 20.19 of the FCC Rules. Please contact your local dealer for replacement antenna.Telecommunications & Internet Association (TIA) safety informationPacemakersThe Health Industry Manufacturers Association recommends that a minimum separation of 15 cm (6 inches) be maintained between a handheld wireless phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with the independent research by and recommendations of Wireless Technology Research. Persons with pacemakers:Should ALWAYS keep the phone more than 15 cm (6 inches) from their pacemaker when the phone is turned ON.Should not carry the phone in a breast pocket.Should use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the potential for interference. If you have any reason to suspect that interference is taking place, turn the phone OFF immediately.Hearing aidsSome digital wireless phones may interfere with some hearing aids. In the event of such interference, you may want to consult your service provider, or call the customer service line to discuss alternatives.WEEE noticeThe Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), which entered into force as European law on 13th February 2003, resulted in a major change in the treatment of electrical equipment at end-of-life. The purpose of this Directive is, as a first priority, the prevention of WEEE, and in addition, to promote the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of such wastes so as to reduce disposal.
