It is used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury or death. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION General Tool Safety Warnings Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. Work area safety 1. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. 2. Do not operate tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. For technical questions, please call 1-888-866-5797. Item 97762 Electrical safety 1. Tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with grounded tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. 2. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded. 3. Do not expose tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a tool will increase the risk of electric shock. Personal safety 1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a tool. Do not use a tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating tools may result in serious personal injury. 2. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. 4. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. 5. When operating a tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. 6. If operating a tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected supply. Use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock. 4. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts. 5. Only use safety equipment that has been approved by an appropriate standards agency. Unapproved safety equipment may not provide adequate protection. Eye protection must be ANSI‑approved and breathing protection must be NIOSH‑approved for the specific hazards in the work area. 3. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off‑position before connecting to power source, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying tools with your finger on the switch or energizing tools that have the switch on invites accidents. Tool use and care 1. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. 2. Do not use the tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. 3. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, or storing tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally. 4. Store idle tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the tool or these instructions to operate the tool. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. 5. Maintain tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have the tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools. Service Have your tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. Keep children away from ventilator. Small fingers can be inserted through grill. 3. Do not use near flammable fumes or dust. Ventilator has internal arcing parts that will ignite flammable fumes/dust. 4. Do not use without guard in place. 5. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not use this Ventilator with any solid‑state speed control device. 6. Do not reposition the fan while in use. 7. Unplug after use. 8. Inspect before use; do not use if parts loose or damaged. 9. Keep inlet and outlet clear during use. 10. Do not allow paper, drapes or other types of loose material to be drawn into the inlet end of the unit. Stopping the free movement of air through the Ventilator will overheat the motor and cause fire. 11. Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important safety information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement. 12. Avoid unintentional starting. Prepare to begin work before turning on the tool. 13. This product is not a toy. Keep it out of reach of children. 14. People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure. In addition, people with pacemakers should: • Avoid operating alone. • Do not use with power switch locked on. • Properly maintain and inspect to avoid electrical shock. • Properly ground power cord. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) should also be implemented – it prevents sustained electrical shock. 15. WARNING: The cord of this product contains lead and/or di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling. (California Health & Safety Code § 25249.5, et seq.) 16. The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. Item 97762 Grounding TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK AND DEATH FROM INCORRECT GROUNDING WIRE CONNECTION: Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the power cord plug provided with the tool. Never remove the grounding prong from the plug. Do not use the tool if the power cord or plug is damaged. If damaged, have it repaired by a service facility before use. If the plug will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Grounded Tools: Tools with Three Prong Plugs 1. Tools marked with “Grounding Required” have a three wire cord and three prong grounding plug. The plug must be connected to a properly grounded outlet. If the tool should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user, reducing the risk of electric shock. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.) 3. The tool must be plugged into an appropriate outlet, properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. The plug and outlet should look like those in the preceding illustration. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.) 2. The grounding prong in the plug is connected through the green wire inside the cord to the grounding system in the tool. The green wire in the cord must be the only wire connected to the tool’s grounding system and must never be attached to an electrically “live” terminal. (See 3-Prong Plug and Outlet.) 3-Prong Plug and Outlet Extension Cords 1. Grounded tools require a three wire extension cord. Double Insulated tools can use either a two or three wire extension cord. 2. As the distance from the supply outlet increases, you must use a heavier gauge extension cord. Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a serious drop in voltage, resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage. (See Table A.) 3. The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cord. For example, a 14 gauge cord can carry a higher current than a 16 gauge cord. (See Table A.) 7. Make sure the extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician before using it. 8. When using more than one extension cord to make up the total length, make sure each cord contains at least the minimum wire size required. (See Table A.) 5. If you are using one extension cord for more than one tool, add the nameplate amperes and use the sum to determine the required minimum cord size. (See Table A.) 6. If you are using an extension cord outdoors, make sure it is marked with the suffix “W-A” (“W” in Canada) to indicate it is acceptable for outdoor use. Tool Set Up TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM ACCIDENTAL OPERATION: Turn the Power Switch of the tool off and unplug the tool from its electrical outlet before performing any procedure in this section. Note: For additional information regarding the parts listed in the following pages, refer to Parts List and Diagram on page 7. 1. Set the Ventilator on a flat, solid surface. 2. Ensure the Inlet and Outlet grills are firmly and securely in place. 3. Ensure that the switch is in the “OFF” position before plugging the unit in. Workpiece and Work Area Set Up 1. Designate a work area that is clean and well-lit. The work area must not allow access by children or pets to prevent distraction and injury. 2. There must not be drapes, paper or other forms of cloth nearby that could be pulled into the inlet part of the ventilator obstructing air flow. 3. Route the power cord along a safe route to reach the work area without creating a tripping hazard or exposing the power cord to possible damage. The power cord must reach the work area with enough extra length to allow free movement while working. 4. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not use this Ventilator with any solid‑state speed control device. General Operating Instructions Automatically Operated Device – To reduce the risk of injury disconnect from power supply before servicing. Ventilator may restart without warning after thermal shutoff. 1. Turn the fan on by moving the switch either to the right, or the left. The positions are noted next to the switch. 2. To prevent accidents, turn off the ventilator and disconnect its power supply after use. Clean, then store the tool indoors out of children’s reach. WARNING! Do not reposition the fan while in use.
