Composite Retriever Assembly Manual
1. (only in case of adaptation on a standard pole)
Remove the center pole support wires from the spinnaker pole. Do this by either cutting the wire or drilling the
head off the rivet, which fixes the pad-eye.

sauter la tête du rivet qui fixe le pontet en perçant dedans.

Slide on to the spinnaker pole from the front cross beam
end the composite retriever tube. The groves cut in the
moulding simply groove around the fittings on the pole.
Disregard the rivets holding the end caps on. The moulding will pass over these rivets with ease. At this stage,
it is necessary to mount the pole on the boat before
fixing the retriever tube onto the pole.
Insérer le tube trompette sur le tangon, le glisser en remontant de la traverse avant vers l’extrémité du tangon. Le manchon s’adapte autour du tangon et passe aisément au dessus des rivets. A ce stade il est nécessaire de monter le tangon sur le bateau avant de fixer le tube avaleur.

Attach to the center pole support pad-eye the 2 pieces of
spectra supplied. This Spectra replaces the wires as the
new center supports.
Attacher au pontet se trouvant au milieu du tangon les deux
bouts Spectra fournis. Ces deux bouts Spectra remplacent
les câbles de support centraux.

Mount the spinnaker pole on the boat as normal, by
using the wires and attachment fittings. Ensure you have
tensioned the rig before tensioning the spinnaker pole.
Tension the pole in the centre vertically and diagonally
as per normal except using the Spectra rope instead of the wire originally supplied. (The Spectra
is stronger, lighter, and a lot friendlier to the top of the retriever tube.) Ensure that there is some
prebend in the pole. Adequate prebend should be when all the play in retriever mounts is taken
up. (They have been made deliberately oversize to allow for pre-bending the spinnaker pole).
Caution: Over bending will cause the retriever tube to buckle and possibly fracture.
Monter le tangon de spi comme d’habitude en utilisant tous les câbles et soutiens fournis. S’assurer
que le gréement est tendu avant de tendre le tangon de spi. Tendre les attaches du tangon verticalement et en diagonale comme à l’accoutumée mais en utilisant les Spectra au lieu des câbles fournis à
l’origine (le Spectra est plus résistant, plus léger et passe plus facilement à l’embouchure du tube). Le
tangon doit être cintré. Pour un cintrage parfait, il ne doit plus y avoir de jeu dans les cordages (ceux-ci
ont été volontairement surdimensionnés afin de permettre ce cintrage). Attention : ne pas tendre exagérément, risque de fracture.

Once both of the supports are on the pole rotate the
tube so it sits on the left side. To fix in position you will
find 2 self-tapping screws. Use these to fix the retriever
tube onto the spinnaker pole. The top of the tube should
fit directly under the center pole support bridles (the
Spectra ropes). Secure in position as per illustration.
Using a 3.2mm drill bit, drill a hole in the spinnaker pole
where the already drilled hole is positioned on the retriever tube. Then screw in the self-tappers and tighten securely.
Une fois les deux supports installés sur le tangon, tourner le
tube afin qu’il se retrouve sur le côté gauche. Ajuster le haut
du tube exactement en dessous des deux cordages Spectra
de support comme indiqué sur la photo. Pour le fixer en position vous trouverez deux vis type “Parker”.
Dans un premier temps mettre en position comme indiqué sur la photo et selon les dimensions fournies. A l’aide d’un foret 3,2 mm percer un trou dans le tangon à travers le trou déjà fait sur le tube. Visser ensuite les deux vis type “Parker” et bien serrer.

Measure and mark on the trampoline the position to mount
the retriever line pulley and plate. These dimensions are given on the photo on next page . The pulley should position in
line with the center of the retriever tube. Punch two small
holes in the trampoline for the rivets to pass through. Now fix
the pad-eye (together with the spring and pulley) to the plate
supplied with the trampoline sandwiched between the two.

poulie doit se trouver alignée avec le centre du tube d’avaleur.
Faire deux petits trous dans le trampolin pour faire passer les rivets. Fixer le pontet (ainsi que le ressort et la poulie) sur la platine
fournie. Le trampolin doit se retrouver en sandwich entre les
deux.

7.
Cut or punch 2 holes in the trampoline. This is for the halyard/retriever line to pass through and
under the trampoline into the tube. Both holes are positioned within the reinforcing of the trampoline pocket. See photographs for positions. Ensure the holes are of a diameter of at least
25mm.
Faire deux autres trous dans le trampoline pour faire passer la drisse sous le trampolin et dans le tube.
Les deux trous sont positionnés à l’intérieur du renfort de la poche de trampolin. Voir la photo pour la
position. Chaque trou doit avoir une dimension minimum de 25 mm.

8.
Threading the halyard/retriever line. Once you
have threaded the tack and halyard lines (as
per standard Hobie Cat system) take the dead
end of the halyard (which comes through the
spinnaker halyard cleat) and pass it through
the trampoline mounted pulley in an aft to forward direction. The line then passes through
the holes cut in the trampoline in step 7, under the beam and to the composite retriever
tube. Using the tiller extension or similar pass
the rope through the tube.
Installation de la drisse/cordage d’avaleur Une
fois les cordages d’amure et la drisse installés
(comme sur un système standard), prendre le bout libre de la drisse (qui sort du taquet de drisse de
spi) et le passer dans la poulie sur le trampolin en allant de l’arrière vers l’avant. Passer ensuite ce cordage dans les trous aménagés dans le trampolin à l’étape précédente, sous la traverse et dans le tube.
A l’aide du stick ou objet long similaire, passer le cordage à travers tout le tube.

9.
Attaching the spinnaker. Firstly tie the corners of the spinnaker to their respective lines. (ie head-halyard, tack-tack line,
clew-sheets.) Then take the retriever line and pass it from the
tube in front of the spinnaker sheets through the three spinnaker patches. The line passes all one side of the spinnaker
through the rings until the top patch where it passes through
and ties with a figure eight knot. At this point if the wind is
light hoist the spinnaker and check that all is threaded correctly. Retrieve the spinnaker into the tube now by pulling
the line from behind the trampoline mounted pulley. For the
first time pull slowly and check that all is well lubricated and
running smoothly. The spinnaker will retrieve into the tube
completely.
Fixation du spi. Tout d’abord attacher les différents cordages de
spi à leurs places respectives, (drisse à la tête, cordage d’amure
au point d’amure, et écoute de spi au point d’écoute). Prendre
ensuite l’autre extrémité de la drisse qui sert de cordage d’avaleur et qui sort du tube et en le passant devant l’écoute de spi,
l’insérer successivement dans les trois patchs se trouvant sur le
spi et l’attacher au dernier anneau par un noeud en 8. A ce stage
si le vent est léger, hisser le spi et vérifier que tous les cordages
sont correctement attachés. Pour rentrer ensuite le spi dans le
tube, tirer sur le cordage à l’arrière de la poulie montée sur le
trampolin. La première fois, effectuer la manoeuvre lentement et
assurez vous que tout est bien fluide et coulisse en douceur.

Further ensure that the all the sharp edges, rings and anything that can get caught on the spinnaker is taped very well
and nothing can catch or tear the spinnaker.
Enfin, s’assurer que tous les points de frottement, anneaux, etc...
qui pourraient se trouver en contact avec le spi sont soigneusement recouverts de ruban autocollant afin que rien ne soit susceptible de déchirer le spi pendant les manoeuvres.
