7 5 Installing the UIM Card and the Battery Contact the network operator for whether a User Identity Module (UIM) card is needed. Ensure that the golden contact area on the UIM card is facing downwards and the beveled edge is correctly aligned with the card holder. 6 Charging the Battery 1. Connect the charger to the charger interface at the lower position of the right side of your phone. 2. Connect the charger to an alternating current (AC) power socket. 3. When the battery is being charged, the charging icon is displayed in the animated status. When the charging icon becomes static, it indicates that the battery is fully charged. 4. Disconnect the charger from the AC power socket. 5. Disconnect the charger from the phone.
8 7 Using the Stylus 1. A stylus can be used to tap and drag: z Tap: to select an item or display a menu by touching the stylus to the screen. z Drag: to select several characters by touching the stylus to the screen and then moving the stylus. 2. When you use the phone for the first time, calibrate the phone screen as follows: z Select Menu > Settings > Display settings > Screen Calibration. z Calibrate the screen by tapping the cross marks (+) displayed on the screen in sequence according to the on-screen instructions. Note z During the calibration, tap the center of + accurately, to ensure that the phone can respond to your tap and text entry on the screen correctly after the calibration. z When you edit a text message or other text contents, if the phone does not respond to your handwriting, switch the text input mode to the handwriting mode first. 8 Using the Function Menu 1. In standby mode, press or to display the Menu screen. 2. Press to scroll to a menu item. 3. Press (Select) or to display the menu. 4. Perform one of the following operations to display a submenu:
9 z Press to scroll to a submenu, and then press (Select) or to display the submenu. z Press the number key corresponding to the number of a submenu to display the submenu. 5. Press (Back) to return to the previous menu or exit the function menu. 6. Press to return to the home screen. 9 Making a Call 1. In standby mode, you can z Tap to access the on-screen numeric keypad. z Press a number key to access the on-screen numeric keypad. 2. Press the number keys on the keypad or tap the number keys on the on-screen numeric keypad to enter the phone number. 3. Press or tap to dial the number. 4. Press to end the call.
10 Note z In standby mode, press twice to enter +, three times to enter P, and four times to enter T. z When the phone is locked, enter the phone lock code to unlock the phone first; otherwise, you can only dial emergency numbers and answer calls. z In standby mode, press to access All Calls. Then select a record and press to dial the number. z Select a contact from the phonebook and then press to call the contact. z Select a message from the inbox and then press to call the message sender. 10 Answering a Call When there is an incoming call, press , (Answer), or to answer it; press to reject it. z When there is an incoming call, you can press (Silence) to mute the speaker and then press (Reject) again to reject it. If the phone is in the Silent mode, you can just press (Reject) to reject it. z If the any-key answer function is enabled, press any key (except and ) to answer the call. z If the headset auto-answer function is enabled and the headset is connected to the phone, the phone answers the call automatically. z If the headset is connected to the phone, you can press the button on the headset cable to answer or end the call.
11 11 Creating and Sending a Text Message 1. Select Menu > Messages > SMS > Create Message. 2. Enter the text contents. 3. Add the message recipient(s). 4. Press to send the message. Note z Your phone supports sending and receiving of long text messages beyond the character limit for a single message. The duration of receiving a complete long message depends on the network condition. When a long message cannot be completely displayed, select and open the long message again until it is completely received. z Long text messages can be saved only in the phone memory. z Your phone can receive delivery reports. If you select Menu > Messages > SMS > Settings > Send Settings > Delivery Report > Activate, after a message is sent successfully, your phone will receive a delivery report. To deactivate this function, select Menu > Messages > SMS > Settings > Send Settings > Delivery Report > Deactivate. 12 Creating and Sending a Multimedia Message 1. Select Menu > Messages > MMS > Create MMS. 2. Edit the message by adding contents to the following fields:
12 z Recipient: to add the recipient(s) of the message. Up to 20 recipients can be added. z Subject: to enter the subject of the message. z Slides: to insert pictures, audio files, video files, and text into a message. 3. After you edit the message, select Options > Send to send the message. Note The MMS function is network dependent. If you cannot send or receive multimedia messages, contact your network operator. 13 Receiving a Multimedia Message After you select Menu > Messages > MMS > Settings > Receive options > Download timing > Manual, you will receive a message notification in the inbox first. In this case, you need to press to read the message notification and then select Options > Receive to receive the multimedia message. After you select Menu > Messages > MMS > Settings > Receive options > Download timing > Automatic, the phone automatically downloads a multimedia message to the inbox. 14 Viewing a Multimedia Message Inbox stores the received multimedia messages. To view a multimedia message in the inbox, do as follows: 1. Select Menu > Messages > MMS > Inbox. 2. Press to scroll to the desired message. 3. Press to view the contents of the message. 4. Select Options for the following options:
13 z Open: to open the message. z Answer: to access the screen for editing a multimedia message and then edit a new multimedia message to reply to the message sender. z Reply All: to edit a new multimedia message to reply to the message sender and all other message recipients. z Forward: to forward the message. z Move: to move the message to My folders under MMS. z Delete: to delete the message. z Delete All: to delete all the messages in the inbox. z Sort: to sort the messages in the inbox according to Date or Address. z Filter View: to list the messages meeting the specified condition that can be Show All, Read, Unread, MMS, Notification, High Priority. 15 Recording an Audio Clip 1. In standby mode, select Menu > Tools > Recorder. 2. Press , or tap or to start recording. 3. Press (Stop) or , or tap or to stop recording. 4. Press , or tap or to play the audio clip. Press to adjust the volume. 5. All the audio clips are saved in the recorder folder under Menu > My Files > Musics.
14 16 Listening to the Radio 1. In standby mode, tap or select Menu > Radio. 2. Select Tuning > Automatic Tuning. 3. Press to switch between channels. Press to adjust the volume. Note z After connecting the headset to the phone, you can listen to radio programs through either the headset or the loudspeaker. z The headset also functions as the antenna. Therefore, during the search for channels, it must be connected to the phone to ensure that channels are found successfully and correctly. z In the area covered with strong signals, even if the headset is not connected to the phone, you can also listen to radio programs. If you pull part of the stylus out of the phone in this case, the program reception can be better. z When listening to the radio, you can tap Hide to hide the radio screen and play the radio in the background. Then the radio status bar indicating the channel frequency appears on the standby screen. You can tap the status bar to access the radio screen again or tap to switch off the radio. 17 Phone Lock The phone lock protects your phone from unauthorized use. The default phone lock code is 1234. You can change the code to a string of one to eight digits.
15 If the phone lock is enabled, you need to enter the correct phone lock code when powering on the phone. 18 PIN and PUK Contact the network operator for whether a UIM card is needed. The personal identification number (PIN) protects your UIM card from unauthorized use. The PIN unlocking key (PUK) is used to unblock the blocked PIN. Both PIN and PUK are delivered with the UIM card. For details, contact your network operator. If you enter wrong PINs for a specified number of times consecutively, you need to enter the PUK code to unblock the PIN. If you enter wrong PUKs for a specified number of times consecutively, the UIM card is invalidated permanently. In this case, contact your network operator for a new card. 19 Locking the Keypad In standby mode, press and hold , or tap to lock the keypad. When the keypad is locked, you can press to answer incoming calls or make emergency calls. (When the phone enters the power-saving mode with the screen backlight off, press or to turn on the screen backlight.) z You can press and then to unlock the keypad. z You can also tap Unlock and then to unlock the keypad. If the auto-keyguard function is enabled, after the phone is idle for a preset period of time, the keypad is locked automatically.
16 20 Changing the Text Input Mode The phone displays the indicator of the current text input mode on the screen. When no letters are selected in the input field, press to change the text input mode. When letters are selected, press to change the letters between lowercase and uppercase. Note z In editing mode, you can switch between keypad input and handwriting input by tapping or . z In editing mode, press (Clear) once to delete the letter before the cursor. Press and hold (Clear) to delete all the letters at a time. z In "En" input mode, press to enter a space. In "Abc" input mode, press once to enter a space, twice to enter 0, and three times to enter a carriage return. z In "Abc" input mode, press repeatedly to select and enter a commonly used punctuation. In "En" input mode, press once to enter a full stop, and twice or three times to enter a smiley. 21 Handwriting Text Input In handwriting input mode, you can input English characters and numbers by writing on the phone screen with a stylus. 1. Write the character or number you want to input in the correct order of strokes. Then the candidate characters or numbers are listed on the screen. 2. Tap the desired character or number to enter it.
17 22 Entering English (En) In "En" input mode, enter English letters as follows: 1. Press each key only once according to the sequence of letters in a word. Then the phone displays the commonly used words according to the numeric sequence of key presses. 2. Press to scroll to the desired word. 3. Press to switch between uppercase and lowercase. 4. Press to enter the word. Press to enter the word followed by a space. 23 Entering English (Abc) In "Abc" input mode, press the key labeled with the desired letter once to enter the first letter on the key, twice to enter the second letter on the key, and so on. Note If the letter you want to enter is on the same key as the previous one, enter the latter after the cursor appears again or after you press to move the cursor to the next space. 24 Entering Numbers z In "123" input mode, press the key labeled with the desired number. z In "Abc" input mode, press the key labeled with the desired number continuously, or press and hold it until the desired number appears on the screen.
18 z In "En" input mode, press the key labeled with the desired number and then press until the desired number appears on the screen. 25 Entering Symbols 1. In any input mode, press to display a symbol list. 2. Press to move the highlight to the previous or next line. 3. Press the corresponding number key to enter the symbol. 19 26 Warnings and Precautions This section contains important information pertaining to the operating instructions of your device. It also contains information about how to use the device safely. Read this information carefully before using your device.  Electronic Device Power off your device if using the device is prohibited. Do not use the device when using the device causes danger or interference with electronic devices.  Medical Device z Follow rules and regulations set forth by hospitals and health care facilities. Do not use your device when using the device is prohibited. z Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum distance of 15 cm be maintained between a device and a pacemaker to prevent potential interference with the pacemaker. If you are using a pacemaker, use the device on the opposite side of the pacemaker and do not carry the device in your front pocket. z Some wireless devices may affect the performance of hearing aids. For any such problems, consult your service provider.  Potentially Explosive Atmosphere Power off your device in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere, and comply with all signs and instructions. Areas that may have potentially explosive atmospheres include the areas where you would normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine. Triggering of sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or a fire, resulting in bodily injuries or even deaths. Do not power on your device at refueling points such as service stations. Comply with restrictions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots, storage, and
20 distribution areas, and chemical plants. In addition, adhere to restrictions in areas where blasting operations are in progress. Before using the device, watch out for areas that have potentially explosive atmospheres that are often, but not always, clearly marked. Such locations include areas below the deck on boats, chemical transfer or storage facilities, and areas where the air contains chemicals or particles such as grain, dust, or metal powders. Ask the manufacturers of vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (such as propane or butane) whether this device can be safely used in their vicinity.  Traffic Security Observe local laws and regulations while using the device. In addition, if using the device while driving a vehicle, comply with the following guidelines: z Concentrate on driving. Your first responsibility is to drive safely. z Do not talk on the device while driving. Use hands-free accessories. z When you have to make or answer a call, park the vehicle at the road side before using your device. z RF signals may affect electronic systems of motor vehicles. For more information, consult the vehicle manufacturer. z In a motor vehicle, do not place the device over the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. Otherwise, the device may hurt you owing to the strong force when the air bag inflates. z Do not use your device while flying in an aircraft. Power off your device before boarding an aircraft. Using wireless devices in an aircraft may cause danger to the operation of the aircraft and disrupt the wireless telephone network. It may also be considered illegal.
21  Operating Environment z Do not use or charge the device in dusty, damp, and dirty places or places with magnetic fields. Otherwise, it may result in a malfunction of the circuit. z The device complies with the RF specifications when the device is used near your ear or at a distance of 1.5 cm from your body. Ensure that the device accessories such as a device case and a device holster are not composed of metal components. Keep your device 1.5 cm away from your body to meet the requirement earlier mentioned. z On a stormy day with thunder, do not use your device when it is being charged, to prevent any danger caused by lightning. z When you are on a call, do not touch the antenna. Touching the antenna affects the call quality and results in increase in power consumption. As a result, the talk time and the standby time are reduced. z While using the device, observe the local laws and regulations, and respect others' privacy and legal rights. z Keep the ambient temperature between 0°C and 45°C while the device is being charged. Keep the ambient temperature between -20°C to 60°C for using the device powered by a battery.  Prevention of Hearing Damage Using a headset at high volume can damage your hearing. To reduce the risk of damage to hearing, lower the headset volume to a safe and comfortable level.  Safety of Children Comply with all precautions with regard to children's safety. Letting the child play with your device or its accessories, which may include parts that can be detached from the device, may be dangerous, as it
22 may present a choking hazard. Ensure that small children are kept away from the device and accessories.  Accessories Use the accessories delivered only by the manufacturer. Using accessories of other manufacturers or vendors with this device model may invalidate any approval or warranty applicable to the device, result in the non-operation of the device, and cause danger.  Battery and Charger z Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and the device when not in use. z The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times before it eventually wears out. When the standby time and the talk time are shorter than the normal time, replace the battery. z Use the AC power supply defined in the specifications of the charger. An improper power voltage may cause a fire or a malfunction of the charger. z Do not connect two poles of the battery with conductors, such as metal materials, keys, or jewelries. Otherwise, the battery may be short-circuited and may cause injuries and burns on your body. z Do not disassemble the battery or solder the battery poles. Otherwise, it may lead to electrolyte leakage, overheating, fire, or explosion. z If battery electrolyte leaks out, ensure that the electrolyte does not touch your skin and eyes. When the electrolyte touches your skin or splashes into your eyes, wash your eyes with clean water immediately and consult a doctor. z If there is a case of battery deformation, color change, or abnormal heating while you charge or store the battery, remove the battery immediately and stop using it. Otherwise, it may lead to battery leakage, overheating, explosion, or fire.
23 z If the power cable is damaged (for example, the cord is exposed or broken), or the plug loosens, stop using the cable at once. Otherwise, it may lead to an electric shock, a short circuit of the charger, or a fire. z Do not dispose of batteries in fire as they may explode. Batteries may also explode if damaged.  Cleaning and Maintenance z The device, battery, and charger are not water-resistant. Keep them dry. Protect the device, battery, and charger from water or vapor. Do not touch the device or the charger with a wet hand. Otherwise, it may lead to a short circuit, a malfunction of the device, and an electric shock to the user. z Do not place your device, battery, and charger in places where they can get damaged because of collision. Otherwise, it may lead to battery leakage, device malfunction, overheating, fire, or explosion. z Do not place magnetic storage media such as magnetic cards and floppy disks near the device. Radiation from the device may erase the information stored on them. z Do not leave your device, battery, and charger in a place with an extreme high or low temperature. Otherwise, they may not function properly and may lead to a fire or an explosion. When the temperature is lower than 0°C, performance of the battery is affected. z Do not place sharp metal objects such as pins near the earpiece. The earpiece may attract these objects and hurt you when you are using the device. z Before you clean or maintain the device, power off the device and disconnect it from the charger. z Do not use any chemical detergent, powder, or other chemical agents (such as alcohol and benzene) to clean the device and the charger. Otherwise, parts of the device may be damaged or a fire
24 can be caused. You can clean the device and the charger with a piece of damp and soft antistatic cloth. z Do not dismantle the device or accessories. Otherwise, the warranty on the device and accessories is invalid and the manufacturer is not liable to pay for the damage.  Emergency Call You can use your device for emergency calls in the service area. The connection, however, cannot be guaranteed in all conditions. You should not rely solely on the device for essential communications.  Certification Information (SAR) This mobile device meets guidelines for exposure to radio waves. Your device is a low-power radio transmitter and receiver. As recommended by international guidelines, the mobile device is designed not to exceed the limits for exposure to radio waves. These guidelines were developed by the independent scientific organization International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and include safety measures designed to ensure safety for all users, regardless of age and health. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is the unit of measurement for the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the body when using a device. The SAR value is determined at the highest certified power level in laboratory conditions, but the actual SAR level of the device when being operated can be well below the value. This is because the device is designed to use the minimum power required to reach the network. The SAR limit adopted by USA and Canada is 1.6 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over one gram of tissue. The highest SAR value reported to the FCC and IC for this device type when tested for use at the ear is 0.922 W/kg, and when properly worn on the body is 0.722 W/kg.
