Safe Installation Requirem ents CAUTIONDo NOToperate unit in acorrosive atmosphere containing chlorine,fluorine, or any other corrosive chemicals.Installation or repairs made by unqualified persons can resultin hazards to you and others. Installation MUST conform withlocal building codes or, in the absence of local codes, with theNational Electrical Code NFPA70-1990 or current edition.The information contained in this manual is intended for useby a qualified service technician familiar with safety proce-dures and equipped with the proper tools and test instru-ments.Failure to carefully read and follow all instructions in thismanual can result in unit malfunction, property damage, per-sonal injury and/or death.• Seal supply and return air ducts.• Check to see that filters are installed correctly and are the propertype and size.NOTE:It is thepersonalresponsibilityandobligationofthecustomertocontacta qualifiedinstallerto ensurethat the installationisadequateand conformsto governingcodes andordinances.3. Locatinq & Installinq The UnitThe unitis designedfor outdoorinstallationonly.Placethe unit on a platformat groundlevel. The unitmay be installedon a concreteslab of 48" (1219mm)x 48" (1219mm)dimensions. Cement blocks on a 3" sand footing willalso work. The slab or blocksSHOULDNOT bein contactwith any part ofthe structure. Check localcodescoveringzoning,noise, platforms,etc..If practicalavoid locatingnextto freshair intakes,ventor bedroomwindows. Noisemaycarry intothe openingsand disturbpeopleinside.Avoid installationsunder roof overhangswithoutguttering. Waterdrainingfromthe roofontotheunitcould produceexcessivenoise,and may causeice to buildup on coil orfan.Placementofthe unitshouldbe ina welldrainedareaorthe unit MUSTbe supportedhighenoughso runoffwillnotenter the unit.Do not locate unitwhereheat, lint orexhaustfumes will be dischargedon unit (asfromdryervents.)ClearancesMinimum clearances,as specified in FIGURE 1, MUST be maintained from adjacentstructuresto provideadequateair circulationand roomfor service personnel.While minimumclearancesare acceptablefor safety reasons,theymay not allow ade-quateaircirculationaroundthe unitforproperoperation.Wheneverpossible,it isdesirableto allow additionalclearance,especiallyaroundthe condenserinlet and dischargeopen-ings.Do NOTinstallthe unit in a recessedor confinedarea that will permitdischargedair fromthe condenserto recirculateto the condenserinlet.DimensionsNOTE: DUCT COLLARS ATTACHED TO SUPPLY AND RETURN MUST BE REVERSED AT INSTALLATION.
