4ENSAFETY AND CARESAFETY  PRECAUTIONSPlease observe the following safety precautions whensetting up and using this product.LCD panel - The LCD panel is made of glass, andmay break if the unit is dropped.Heat sources - Keep the product away from heatsources, such as radiators, stoves, heaters, andother heat-generating products.Water and moisture - Do not use the product in ornear water or in high moisture areas, such as abathroom.Power source - The product may be susceptible topower surges. It should be unplugged during severestorms or whenever you will be away for a longtime. Only use the type of power source specifiedin this manual. However, if something does go wrong,please do not try to repair it yourself - consult yoursupplier.Do not use your product outdoors in the rain, orhandle it with wet hands - water can damageelectrical equipment.GETTING STARTEDHOW YOUR CLOCK WORKS WITH THENIGHTLIGHT - OVERVIEWThe clock can be set independently to give youtime, calendar and alarm facilities.The nightlight can be set independently to light upin the dark so you can see where you are going.The clock and nightlight can also be used togetherto turn the clock backlight on when you walk into adark room, or wave your arm from the comfort ofyour bed. It can do this because the nightlight has2 types of sensor. One sensor responds to lightand the other responds to movement. EN5Clock: NOTE The nightlight has a Power ON / OFF switch tohelp conserve power. Use the AC adaptor when usingthe nightlight for long periods of time. The batteriesare a good power source for back-up usage. ABOUT ATOMIC CLOCK RECEPTIONThis clock can automatically synchronize the date andtime with official time-keeping organizations in Boulder,Colorado. The unit can pick up an atomic clock signalwhen it is within 932 miles (1500 km) of Boulder.NOTE For best results, place the unit away from metalor electrical objects, and near a window with a clearview to the sky.TURNING THE ATOMIC CLOCK RECEPTION ON / OFFTo turn the atomic clock reception on:Press and hold the clock   button for 2 seconds.The atomic clock reception icon will appear andflash on the display to indicate it is searching forthe atomic clock signal.Once batteries have been installed in the clock, thereception icon will flash to indicate it is searching for asignal.When the reception signal has been received thereception icon will show the signal strength bydisplaying between 0 and 3 waves:To turn the atomic clock reception off:Press and hold the   button for 2 seconds.The atomic clock reception icon will disappear fromthe display.Nightlight:NOTE Replace the batteries whenever the low batteryicon   is displayed. Change all the batteries at thesame time - it is dangerous to mix old and newbatteries. 6ENCalendar /Clock / SecCalendar /Clock / DayCalendar / Clock /Offset TimeCLOCK / CALENDARCLOCK / CALENDAR DISPLAYThere are 3 types of clock display:HOURLY CHIMEThe hourly chime function when set to ON will beeponce at the beginning of every hour, and the chimeicon   will show on the display.TEMPERATURETo choose between ˚C / ˚F, slide the switch up or downto the setting you want.The display can show indoor temperatures rangingfrom 23˚F to +122˚F (-5˚C to +50˚C).ALARMALARM  DISPLAYThere are 3 types of alarm display:Press the ALARM button to toggle between the 3 typesof display.Press the MODE button to toggle between the 3 typesof display.SETTING THE CLOCK / CALENDARBefore you can manually set the clock and calendar,you must specify the current time zone you live in andthe time format (12- or 24-hour) as follows:1. Press and hold the MODE button for 2 seconds.The time zone offset hour digits will flash. Thedefault setting of the time zone offset hour is -8,which stands for Pacific Time.  To change to otherU.S. time zones, select the following:-7 for Mountain Time-6 for Central Time-5 for Eastern Time2. Enter the value by pressing the   or   buttons.3. Confirm the entry by pressing the MODE button.The 12- or 24-hour display format will flash.4. Repeat (2) and confirm the entry by pressing theMODE button.5. Repeat the above procedures to set the hour,minute, year, MM / DD or DD / MM format, month,day, day-of-the-week language and hourly chime(On / Off).You can select 1 of the 5 following languages:Daily Alarm /ClockStart Time forBacklightactivated byNightlightStop Time forBacklightactivated byNightlightIMPORTANT When you press and hold ALARM for 2seconds to enter the Setting Mode you need to makesure you are in the correct alarm display (see abovefor reference).SETTING THE ALARMTo set the alarm:1. Press and hold the ALARM button for 2 secondswhen the selected alarm is displayed. The hourswill flash.2. Enter the values by pressing   or  .3. Confirm the entry by pressing the ALARM button.4. The minutes will flash.5. Repeat (2) and (3) to finish the setting. EN7ACTIVATING / DEACTIVATING THE ALARMTo activate or deactivate the alarm:1. Press the ALARM button.2. Press the   or   button. When the alarm icon appears on the display, the alarm is activated.When the alarm icon does not appear on thedisplay, the alarm is deactivated.ALARM SOUNDWhen activated, the alarm icon flashes, the backlightwill come on for 8 seconds and a beeping noise startsquietly. The alarm gradually becomes louder until itcrescendos at 2 minutes.TURNING THE ALARM SOUND OFFTo turn the alarm sound off and automatically activateit again after 24 hours, press any of the followingbuttons:MODEALARMUPDOWNCLOCK BACKLIGHTTO MANUALLY TURN THE BACKLIGHT ONPress the LIGHT button on the clock, and the backlightwill turn on for 5 seconds.TO  ACTIVATE THE BACKLIGHT USING THEMOTION / LIGHT SENSORThe clock backlight can be set up for a certain periodof time to turn on for 10 seconds when a movement isdetected in a dark room. Simply:1. Press the ALARM  button twice to get to theBacklight Setting Display.6. The Motion Start Hour will flash.7. Repeat (4) and (5).8. Continue the above procedures to set the MotionStop Hour.2. Press the   or   buttons to change the setting toeither:NIGHTLIGHTACTIVATING THE NIGHTLIGHT USING THE MODEBUTTONThe nightlight can be activated independently to theclock unit. You can set the nightlight to the followingoptions:1. Nightlight On - When the room is dark the nightlightwill stay on.Slide the Mode button to On.2. Nightlight Off - The nightlight stays off all the time.Slide the Mode button to Off.3. Nightlight Auto - When the nightlight detects motionin a dark room, it will light up for 20 seconds.Slide the Mode button to Auto.Enabled OR Disabled9. When the   icon appears on the display, thefunction is activated. When the icon does notappear on the display, the function is deactivated.NOTE Light ON – Press to turn the clock backlightON for 10 seconds remotely.NOTE The nightlight Clock Control switch must beset to On for this function to work.TO ENABLE / DISABLE THE REMOTE-CONTROLLEDCLOCK BACKLIGHT1. 8ENNOTE When the motion sensor on the nightlight isturned on, it needs approximately 2 minutes to warmup before giving a response.ACTIVATING THE CLOCK BACKLIGHT USING THECONTROL BUTTONYou can control the backlight of the clock through thenightlight. You can set the backlight to the followingoptions:1. Control On - The clock backlight is controlled bythe activation of the nightlight.Slide the Clock Control switch to On.2. Control Off - The nightlight does not control theclock backlight.Slide the Clock Control switch to Off.NOTE See the Clock Backlight section, which showsyou how to set the nightlight sensors to be activated attimes specified by you.THE CODE SWITCHThe Code switch on the nightlight must be set to thesame setting as the Code setting on the clock. TheCode allows the nightlight to recognize the clockíssettings.THE CHANNEL SWITCHUp to 2 nightlights can be linked to 1 clock. (Anadditional nightlight can be purchased separately.)
