In microphone mode, your BluPAL brings you closer to people – in conversation in a noisy environment, in a meeting at a conference table, or in a crowded lecture hall. In Auxiliary Input mode, BluPAL brings you closer to your electronics – your TV, your iPod™, or even your computer can all stream wireless audio straight to your headset. The BluPAL Stereo Headphones included in the BluPAK take full advantage of the advanced audio streaming ability of your BluPAL, bringing you rich stereo sound over a broad frequency range. In addition, your new stereo headphones can be paired with your cell phone to seamlessly switch between BluPAL’s audio streaming and an incoming phone call. Finally, the advanced ergonomic design works with most modern hearing aids, bringing you high quality sound while avoiding the annoying whistle of feedback. Contents of Package • BluPAL • BluPAL Base • BluPAL Stereo Headphones • AC/DC Power Converter • Power Y-Cable • Outlet Adapters for USA, EU, UK, and Australia • 3.5 mm stereo input cable • RCA to 3.5 mm adapter cable • Lanyard • User Manual and Quick Start Guide Main Features Directional Microphone Omni Microphone Talk Button LED Three-way Input Selector Volume Up (+) Master Control Volume Down (-) Adjustable Tilt Cradle Volume Controls Charging Door On/Off Switch Base Audio Input Base Power Input Operation Charging the Battery: Both BluPAL and the Stereo Headphones use rechargeable lithium-ion polymer batteries. Unlike earlier rechargeable batteries, their performance and operating time are not compromised by partial charging or discharging. Both will charge completely in two hours, and a full charge will provide up to five hours of streaming audio. To charge BluPAL in the base: • Plug the AC/DC Converter into an AC power outlet and into the power input in the base. • Insert BluPAL into the Adjustable Tilt Cradle. To charge BluPAL without the base: • Plug the AC/DC Converter into an AC power outlet and into the power input in BluPAL. When BluPAL is charging, the LED will glow steadily red. When BluPAL is fully charged the red LED will go off. Note: If charging BluPAL only, you may either plug the AC/DC power converter cable directly into the base, or you may use the power y-cable, which allows you to charge both devices at the same time. When charging the Stereo Headphones you must use the y-cable. To Charge the Stereo Headphones: • Open the charging door. • Attach the power y-cable to the AC/DC power converter cable. • Plug the AC/DC Converter into an AC power outlet. • Attach the “pin-style” side of the y-cable into the Headphones. When the Stereo Headphones are charging, the LED will glow steadily red. When fully charged the red LED will go off. To turn BluPAL on and off: • To turn on, press and hold the Master Control for 3 seconds; the LED will flash green 3 times. • To turn off, press and hold the Master Control for 3 seconds; the LED will flash red 3 times. To turn the Bluetooth Stereo Headphones on and off: The stereo headphones use a small silver switch on the left earpiece near the charging door. The on and off switch positions are clearly marked. Switching Profiles BluPAL is designed to work with standard Bluetooth headsets and stereo headphones. These devices use different Bluetooth profiles: “Headset” and “Advanced Audio”. To switch between profiles: • Turn BluPAL on. • Press and hold both volume up (+) and volume down (-) for three seconds. • The red LED will flash twice. • When in Headset mode, the green LED will flash periodically. • When in Advanced Audio mode, the green LED will be on most of the time, and periodically will blink off. Pairing and Connecting BluPAL and Headphones: • Make sure BluPAL is using the Advanced Audio profile (see Switching Profiles). • Turn both devices off. • Put the BluPAL Headphones into Pairing mode: Turn on the Headphones while pressing and holding the Headphone Master Control for seven seconds. The Headphone LED will flash red and blue. • Put BluPAL into auto-pairing mode by pressing and holding Master Control for 7 seconds (or until the LED flashes red and green). • BluPAL will automatically pair and connect to the stereo headphones. Using Headphones with BluPAL and a Mobile Phone: • Put the Stereo Headphones into Pairing mode: Turn on the Headphones while pressing and holding the Headphone Master Control for seven seconds. The Headphone LED will flash red and blue. • Put your mobile phone into pairing mode following its instructions. Usually you will find a “connection” menu, and in that a Bluetooth menu which provides for adding new devices. When it asks for a pairing code use “0000”. • Your phone is now paired with your headphones. • Pair and connect BluPAL with your headphones. • Now you need to re-connect your phone to the headphones. • After connecting, your phone should release the audio connection, and BluPAL will stream audio. • If your phone rings, a ringtone should sound in your headphones – press the headphone master control to answer the call. When your call is completed, audio streaming from BluPAL should restart automatically. • To toggle back and forth between connected devices, push the headphone master control. Using with your TV: BluPAL can bring you TV audio in three different ways. Use the microphone: • Select the Omni Microphone • Set BluPAL in front of your TV. Use the headphone jack: BluPAL includes a stereo input cable that plugs directly into most TV headphone jacks. This will give you excellent sound quality but will turn off your TV’s speakers. • Select the Auxiliary Input. • Connect the Stereo Input cable to your TV’s headphone jack. • Connect the other end of the cable to BluPAL (or put BluPAL in its base and connect the stereo input cable to the Audio Input on the base). Use the RCA audio output: Your BluPAL comes with an RCA adapter cable. Many TVs have an RCA audio output which does not disable your speakers. This gives the BluPAL user excellent sound quality while others can enjoy the same entertainment with separate volume control. • Select Auxiliary Input. • Connect the RCA adapter cable to the “Audio Output” RCA jacks on your TV. These are usually located on the back of the TV (and are easily confused with the Audio Input). • Connect the RCA adapter cable to the Stereo Input cable. • Connect the stereo input cable directly to BluPAL (or to the base and insert BluPAL in the base). Using BluPAL as a Companion Microphone In Conversation: Give BluPAL to your spouse and carry on a conversation in a car or restaurant. Your spouse can use the provided lanyard, clip BluPAL to his or her shirt, set BluPAL in the base, or simply hold BluPAL in the most comfortable speaking position. A conversation in a tough environment is comfortable again. In a Meeting: Put BluPAL in its base, turn on the omni microphone and put it in the middle of the table to hear every word. In a Lecture Hall: Put BluPAL in its base and set it on the podium with the directional microphone on – it will sound like the speaker is speaking directly to you.
