Introduction
TheGeniusirrigationsystemcombinesdigitaltechnologywithapatentpendingnozzledesigntoproduceanirrigation
systemcapableofdistributingwaterinpatternsthatfittheshapeofthelandscape.TheGeniusirrigationsystemdoes
thiswhilebothreducingthewaterrequiredtoirrigatethelandscapeandsavingsignificantinstallationtimeand
materials.
TheGeniusirrigationsystemisdesignedtosignificantlyreducethelaborrequiredtoinstallin‐groundirrigationsystems
whileatthesametimereducingwaterrequiredtosufficientlywaterthelawn.ThecenterofthesystemistheGenius
sprinklerthatcanbeprogramedtowaterawidevarietyofshapesandsizes.Thissprinklerreducestheneedfor
distributionpipebyupto85%,significantlycutsthenumberofsprinklerheadsrequiredandreducestheamountof
watertypicallywastedtoirrigatethelawnbyupto50%.Whilethecostofthewaterisbornbythepropertyowner,itis
stillabarrierthatcanbeturnedintoanopportunitywhensellingthebenefitsofGeniusirrigationsystemstoconsumers.

BecausetheGeniussprinklersareindividuallyprogrammable,eachsprinklercanbeprogrammedtowaterthespecific
landscapeshapewithinthewateringzoneitislocated.Duringtheinstallationprocess,thewaterthrowdistancesare
programmedforeachindividualsprinklertomatchthelandscapeshapeitwillirrigate.Minimumwateringoverlapis
recommendedbetweenGeniussprinklers,andtheneedforhead‐to‐headsprinklerwateringcoverageiseliminated.
Thiseliminationofrequiredhead‐to‐headcoveragecanresultinsavingasmuchas50%ofthewastedwater.
Sinceeachsprinklerhasitsownself‐containedflowcontrolvalve,theneedforvalveboxesservicingmulti‐headzonesis
nolongernecessary.Thisinturnreducestheamountofdistributionpiperequiredtoinstallasystem,inmanycasesby
85%,whichalsoreducesthetimerequiredtopullortrenchthepipe.Theresultisasignificantsavingsininstallation
labor,reducingthetimerequiredtoinstallagivensystemby50%ormore.

UseawaterpressuregaugeandrecordthepressureinPSIGatanoutdoorspigot.
Mostcitywatersystemssupplybetween10‐12GPMateachspigot–pleasecheckifuncertain.
A1”pipediameter(orlarger)isrecommendedfordistributionofthemainwatersupplylinefortheGenius
irrigationsystem.A¾”mainlinepipemayprovideenoughGPMatpressuresabove60PSI,butwill
experiencemorepressuredropandshorterthrowdistances.A½”pipeorsmallerisnotrecommendedfor
mainlines.Ashortrunoffunnypipeorswingpipeisusedfromthemainlinetoindividualsprinklerheads.
ThechartbelowcanbeusedtoplantheGeniussprinklerheadspacing,andillustratesthemaximumdesign
waterthrowdistancefromasprinklerheadbasedonwatersupplypressure.(NOTE:itisimportantthat
calculationsforadditionalpressuredropduetoelevationchanges,lengthofmainlineanduseofanti‐
syphonvalvesbesubtractedfromthewatersupplypressuretoeachsprinklerhead.)

ThemaximumdistancethataGeniussprinklerwilluniformlythrowwaterdependsonwatersupplypressure
andpressuredroptothesprinklerhead.SinceGeniussprinklerswilloftenbeplacednearthecenterofanarea
oflandscape,thediagonaldistancetothecornerswilldeterminethemaximumdistance.Forinstance,ina42x
42footsquareora24x55footrectangle,thediagonaldistancetothecornersis30feet.Theminimumdesign
distancethataGeniussprinklerwilluniformlythrowwateris5feet.Seeexamplesofmaximumthrowdistance

Connectthesprinklerfitting(¾inchFPT)tothemainwaterlineusingfunnypipeorswingpipe.
Installtheflexiblepipetothemainlineandconnectthesprinklerwitha¾inchfittingandTeflontape.
Positionsprinklersothetopcapisabout½inchabovetheground(dirtportionofthesodlayer–seephoto).
Connectthewhitesprinklerwiretothewhitecommonwireinthemulti‐wirecableusingwaterproof
connectors.Continuethewhitewireconnection(common)toallothersprinklers.
Connecttheredsprinklerwiretoanothercoloredwireinthemulti‐wirecableusingwaterproofconnectors.
Recordthecolorwireconnectedtoeachsprinklerforeachnumberedwateringzone.
