Collector Activation Radio (CAR) Quick Reference Guide The Collector Activation Radio (CAR) is a small handheld device that is used to turn on the wireless diagnostic radio in a 100 Series collector or repeater. To turn on the wireless diagnostic radio • Press and release the red button on the CAR. One button press, regardless of duration, sends one message. You must be within 100 feet of the collector or repeater. The wireless activation message is sent within four seconds of pressing the button. When the message from the CAR is received, the Wi-Fi is enabled and a PC (with the proper security settings) may now access the collector/repeater with a Web-based session. If a PC makes a successful connection within 30 minutes, the wireless diagnostic mode will remain active until the connection has been severed. If a PC does not connect within 30 minutes, the CCU exits the wireless mode. Troubleshooting If the CCU does not recognize the collector activation message, check that it has power and is operating. If you believe that the CAR is not transmitting to the collector/repeater, return the CAR to Itron for service. Service This unit contains a non-serviceable lifetime battery. If the unit fails, please return to Itron for repair/replacement. Caution Only authorized Itron personnel may open this device.
