Warnings, Cautions and Others
CAUTION
The
button in any position does not
disconnect the mains line.
Disconnect the mains plug to shut the power off
completely (the STANDBY lamp goes off).
The MAINS plug or an appliance coupler is used
as the disconnect device, the disconnect device
shall remain readily operable.
• When the system is on standby, the STANDBY
lamp lights red.
• When the system is turned on, the STANDBY
lamp goes off.
The power can be remote controlled.
CAUTION
To reduce the risk of electrical shocks, fire, etc.:
1. Do not remove screws, covers or cabinet.
2. Do not expose this appliance to rain or
moisture.
CAUTION
Battery shall not be exposed to excessive heat
such as sunshine, fire or the like.

CAUTION:
Excessive sound pressure from earphones or
headphones can cause hearing loss.
CAUTION
• Do not block the ventilation openings or
holes.
(If the ventilation openings or holes are
blocked by a newspaper or cloth, etc., the
heat may not be able to get out.)
• Do not place any naked flame sources, such
as lighted candles, on the apparatus.
• When discarding batteries, environmental
problems must be considered and local rules
or laws governing the disposal of these
batteries must be followed strictly.
• Do not expose this apparatus to rain,
moisture, dripping or splashing and that no
objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall
be placed on the apparatus.

Caution: Proper Ventilation
To avoid risk of electric shock and fire, and to prevent damage, locate the apparatus as follows:
1. Front: No obstructions and open spacing.
2. Sides/Top/Back: No obstructions should be placed in the areas shown by the dimensions below.
3. Bottom: Place on the level surface. Maintain an adequate air path for ventilation by placing on a
stand with a height of 10 cm or more.

Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a JVC product.
Please read all instructions carefully before operation, to ensure your complete understanding and
to obtain the best possible performance from the unit.

Precautions
Installation
• Install in a place which is level, dry and neither too hot nor too cold—between 5°C and 35°C.
• Install the unit in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent internal heat buildup inside the
unit.
DO NOT install the unit in a location near heat sources, or in a place subject to direct
sunlight, excessive dust or vibration.
• Leave sufficient distance between the unit and the TV.
• Keep the unit away from the TV to avoid interference with TV.

Power Sources
• When unplugging the unit from the wall outlet, always pull on the plug, not the AC power cord.
DO NOT handle the AC power cord with wet hands.

Internal Heat
For safety, observe the following carefully:
• Make sure there is good ventilation around the unit. Poor ventilation could overheat
and damage the unit.
• DO NOT block the ventilation openings or holes. If they are blocked by a newspaper
or cloth, etc., the heat may not be able to get out.

Others
• Should any metallic object or liquid fall into the unit, unplug the AC power cord and consult your
dealer before operating any further.
DO NOT disassemble the unit since there are no user serviceable parts inside.
• If you are not going to operate the unit for an extended period of time, unplug the AC power cord
from the wall outlet.
If anything goes wrong, unplug the AC power cord and consult your dealer.

Getting Started
In this manual, operations using the remote
control are mainly explained; however, you
can use the buttons and controls on the unit if
they have the same (or similar) name and
marks.

Replacing the battery in the remote control
Insert the battery into the remote control by
matching the polarity (+ and –) correctly.
• If the range or effectiveness of the remote
control decreases, replace the battery.

After unpacking, check to be sure that you have
all the following items. The number in
parentheses indicates the quantity of each piece
supplied.

If anything is missing, consult your dealer
immediately.
CAUTION:
To avoid risk of fire, and to prevent damage.
• Do not use AC adaptors except the supplied
AC adaptor.
• Do not use the supplied AC adaptor for other
equipment.

Prepare the Remote Control
When you use the remote control for the first
time, pull out the insulation sheet.

WARNINGS:
• Store the battery in a place where children
cannot reach. If a child accidentally swallows
the battery, consult a doctor immediately.
• Do not recharge, short, disassemble or heat
the battery or dispose of it in a fire. Doing any
of these things may cause the battery to give
off heat, crack, or start a fire.
• Do not leave the battery with other metallic
materials. Doing this may cause the battery to
give off heat, crack, or start a fire.
• When throwing away or saving the battery,
wrap it in tape and insulate; otherwise, the
battery may start to give off heat, crack, or
start a fire.
• Do not poke the battery with tweezers or
similar tools. Doing this may cause the battery
to give off heat, crack, or start a fire.
• Dispose of battery in the proper manner,
according to federal, state, and local
regulations.
CAUTION:
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly
replaced.
Replace only with the same or equivalent
type.

Connections
Do not connect the AC power cord until all other connections have been made.

Connecting the Antenna

FM antenna (supplied):
Extend it so that you can obtain the best
reception.

Disconnect the supplied FM antenna, and
connect to an outdoor FM antenna using a 75 Ω
wire with coaxial type connector.

NOTE:
Make sure the FM antenna does not touch any other terminals, connecting cords or the AC power
cord. Also, keep the antenna away from metallic parts of the unit, connecting cords, and the AC
power cord. This could cause poor reception.

Connecting the Video Cord to View a Video/Picture from iPod
When viewing a video/picture from your iPod on your TV, use a composite video cord (not
supplied) to connect the VIDEO OUT jack on the unit and the composite video input on your TV.

Canceling the Display Demonstration
When you connect the AC power cord for the first time, the display demonstration starts
automatically.
• When you operate the unit, the display demonstration stops temporarily. If no operation is done
for 2 minutes, the unit starts the display demonstration again.

To set the ECO mode
Setting the ECO mode allows you to reduce power consumption by turning off the display while on
standby.
Press while the unit is on standby. “ECO ON” appears on the display for a while.
• The clock is not shown on the display when the unit is on standby.
• To cancel this function, press ECO/DIMMER again. “ECO OFF” appears for a while then the
clock is shown on the display.
• The battery of the iPod is not charged in ECO mode.

To change the color of the illumination bars
You can change the color of the illumination bars.
• The color is memorized for each source.
Press repeatedly to change the color of the illumination bars.
• You can select one of the nine colors.

• To check the time remaining before the shut-off time, press SLEEP once.
If you press the button repeatedly, you can change the shut-off time.

Turning off the unit automatically—Auto Standby
Hold down until “A STBY” appears on the display.
A.STBY starts flashing after playback stops.
If no operation is done for about 3 minutes while A.STBY flashing, the unit will be
turned off.
• To cancel this function, hold down AUTO STBY until “OFF” appears on the display.
• This function does not work when FM is selected as the source.

Emphasize the sound—Sound Turbo
This function emphasizes the sound.
Press to activate Sound Turbo.
“S-TURBO” appears for a while and S.TURBO lights up on the display.
• To cancel this function, press SOUND TURBO again. “OFF” appears on the display.

To adjust the tone
You can adjust the bass and treble level.

Connecting iPod Devices
Connect the iPod to dock A or B on the unit.
You can have 2 iPod devices connected at the same time.
• Make sure the unit is on standby when you connect an iPod.

To detach the dock adapter from the dock:
Pull up the dock adapter with your fingernail or a sharp pointed tool using the slot.
• Be careful not to injure your fingertips or damage the terminal of the dock.

NOTES:
• Be careful not to damage the terminal on the dock when connecting/disconnecting the iPod.
• Close the cover of the dock when you do not connect the iPod to the unit.
About the battery charge of the iPod
The battery of the iPod is always charged through the unit except when the unit is in ECO mode
(see page 9).
• When 2 iPod devices are connected, both batteries are charged at the same time.
• For details of the battery charging, see the instruction manual for iPod.

• JVC is not responsible for any loss of or damage to iPod that might result from the use of this
product.
• Do not touch or hit the terminals of the dock and of the iPod. It might cause damage to these
terminals.
• When you connect your iPod to the dock, make sure the terminal on the dock is fully inserted into
the iPod.
• Always set the volume to the minimum level when connecting or disconnecting an iPod.
• Sound distortion may occur when playing back audio sources with a high recording level. When
distortion occurs, it is recommended to turn off the equalizer of the iPod. For information on
operating the iPod, see the instruction manual for iPod.
• Do not carry the unit with iPod connected. You might drop it down or it might cause damage to
the connector part.
• Turn off the unit when disconnecting an iPod.
• Remove the iPod from the dock when you do not use it.
• When you cannot operate the connected iPod through the unit or using the remote control, operate
the iPod directly.
• After connecting an iPod, wait until the unit is ready for operation (about 3 seconds).

lights up on the display (only when the reception is good).
Press: Changes the frequency.
Hold down and release: The unit starts searching for stations
and stops when a station of sufficient signal strength is found.
• To stop searching, press again.

Tunes in to a preset station: Press repeatedly to select a preset
station number. (For presetting stations, see page 16.)

Changes the FM reception mode: When an FM stereo
broadcast is hard to receive or noisy, press to improve
reception. MONO (monaural) lights up on the display.
Reception will improve though the stereo effect is lost.
• To restore the stereo effect, press again.

Presetting Stations
You can preset 30 FM stations.

Select FM as the source.

Tune in to the station you want to preset.
• You can also store the monaural reception mode for FM preset stations if
selected.

Activate the preset number entry mode.
“SET” flashes on the display for a few seconds.
• Finish the following operations while the indication is flashing.
Select a preset number for the station you want to store.

Store the station.
“STORED” appears on the display for a while.

NOTES:
• When you unplug the AC power cord or if a power failure occurs, the preset stations will be erased
in a few days.
• If you store a new station onto an occupied preset number, the station previously stored on that
number will be erased.

Set the built-in clock before using the Timer.
• You can set the clock when the unit is turned on or on standby.

“AdjCLOCK” appears then the hour digit of the time indication flashes on
the display.
• If you have already adjusted the clock before, press the button 2 times to
activate the clock setting mode.

Setting the Timer
Using the Timer, you can wake up with music, etc.
• When using an iPod or other equipment as the playback source, connect it to the unit beforehand.

• You can set the Timer when the unit is turned on or on standby.
• The unit is turned off automatically 2 hours after it is turned on by the Timer.

1 Adjust the hour then the minute for the on-time.
2 Select a playback source—“IPod A,” “IPod B,” “FM,” or “AUDIO IN.”
• When “FM” is selected, select the preset number of the station you want to
use.
When you select “FM --,” the preset station you last tuned in is set. (See
“Listening to FM Broadcast” on page 15.)
3 Select the volume level.
“SET OK” appears followed by the setting information, then the
icon
and the timer number indicator (1/2/3) light up on the display.
Turn off the unit (on standby).

• To exit from the timer setting, press CLOCK/TIMER as required.
• To correct a misentry during the process, press MENU/CANCEL. You can return to the previous
step.

To cancel the Timer
Select the timer you want to cancel.

Troubleshooting
If you are having a problem with your unit, check this list for a possible solution before calling for
service.

General
Power does not come on.
