3. Getting Started
Charging the Battery
The tablet has a built-in rechargeable Li-polymer battery.
1. To charge, plug the AC power adapter into the charging port and plug the
other end into a power source.
2. The tablet can still be used while the battery is charging.
Power ON/OFF
1. Press and hold the power button until the tablet turns on.
2. To power off, press and hold the power button for several seconds. Slide
your finger downward on the screen to turn off the tablet.
Screen Lock/Unlock
This feature locks and turns off the screen while the tablet is still turned on.
Screen locks when:
1. Tablet is left idle for a period of time
2. Manually activated by pressing the power button once
To unlock the screen, press the power button once and slide your finger upward
on the screen.
Connecting to Internet
1. Swipe your finger in from the right edge of the screen to open the charm
menu.
2. Choose Settings, and press the network icon (five vertical bars).
3. Choose the network of your choice from the list, and press Connect. You
may need to enter your network password or key.
4. The Start Screen
1. Touch the white Start menu icon next to the screen to visit the Start screen.
You can also swipe in from the right edge of the screen and choose Start.
2. Press any tile on the Start screen to start an app. Some apps require you to
create or log into a Microsoft account before they will work.
3. Slide your finger left or right to see more apps.
4. To customize your Start screen, swipe down from the top edge of the screen
and choose Customize. You can then drag and drop tiles where you want them.

5. Getting Around
To return to your previous app, swipe in from the left edge of the screen. To
see a list of all open apps, swipe in from the left edge, keep your finger on the
screen, and slide your finger back toward the left edge.
In some apps, you can reduce or enlarge the picture by placing two fingers
on the screen and sliding them apart or together.
Zoom out Zoom in
To see the commands for the app you are using, swipe down from the top
edge of the screen.

6. Apps
To see all your apps, go to the Start screen and slide your finger up.
To place one of these apps on the Start screen, press and hold the icon for about
one second. Choose Pin to Start.
To remove an app icon from the Start screen, press and hold it for about one
second. Choose Unpin from Start.

7. Charm Menu
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen to see the five charm icons: Search,
Share, Start, Devices, and Settings.
Search the web and the tablet.
Share something via email or a social network.
Return to the Start screen. If you are already on the Start screen, this icon
returns you to the last app you used.
Manage devices such as printers and projectors.
Change tablet settings.

8. Using Two Apps at Once
1. To open two apps on the screen at the same time, first open one app. Then
swipe in from the left edge, keep your finger on the screen, and slide your finger
back toward the left edge to see a list of all open apps.
2. Drag the app you want from the list, and drop it to the left or right side of the
current app.
3. Drag the divider to resize the apps or move one of them off the screen.
9. Factory Reset
To erase all personal data and downloaded apps from your tablet, you can do
a factory data reset.
1. Go to the PC Settings app.
2. Choose Update and recovery > Recovery.
3. Press “Get started” under “Remove everything and reinstall Windows.”
4. Follow the prompts to reset your tablet to default settings.
Warning: If you perform a factory reset, all your personal data and files on the
tablet will be lost. Please back up any necessary files.

10. Safety Information
1. Never use your device while driving or operating a vehicle.
2. In some circumstances your device may cause interference with other devices.
3. Switch off your device in an airplane, in an area with a potentially explosive
atmosphere, or in any other area where its use is prohibited or it may cause
interference or danger. Please follow posted regulations.
4. Pacemaker manufacturers recommend keeping a minimum distance of 8
inches between a wireless device and a pacemaker to avoid potential
interference with the pacemaker. Consult a physician or the manufacturer of the
medical device if you have any questions.
5. Switch off your device in health care facilities when posted regulations instruct
you to do so.
6. When connecting to another device, read and follow the safety instructions in
that device’s user manual. Do not connect incompatible products.
7. Do not place your device in the air bag deployment area of a vehicle.
8. Use only manufacturer-approved accessories. Using generic accessories may
shorten the life of the device or cause it to malfunction.
9. Keep your device dry. Humidity or liquids may damage the device.
10. Do not use or store the device in dusty or dirty areas, in extremely hot or cold
environments, near magnetic fields, or with hard objects that could damage the
device.
11. Do not drop your device or impact it with hard objects.
