GENERAL INFORMATION
This instruction covers the physical installation of the following
electric heaters with AHX61 single piece air handlers. These
electric heat accessories are used for applications of cooling
with electric heat and heat pump with electric heat. Refer to unit
instructions for electrical specifications.
INSTALLATION
1. Refer to Table 1 for appropriate kit.
2. Check kit for physical damage, do not install damaged kit.
3. Remove the upper access panel from air handler.
4. Unplug the Mate-n-Lock connector (Refer to Figure 3) and
Remove block-off plate or existing heater kit from air han-
dler by removing 6 screws. See Figure. 2.
5. Slide the heater kit into the slot and secure element plate to
divider deck with the 6 previously removed screws.
6. Insert power leads into the circuit breaker lugs or terminal
block and tighten. See Figure. 3.
7. Connect ground wire to ground lug. See Figure. 3.
8. Plug in the Mate-N-Lock connector.
9. Break out appropriate number of circuit breaker openings
on the access panel of the air handler.
10. Mark an X in the appropriate box on the indoor unit data
plate for the particular heater installed.
ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD
Installation or repairs made by unqualified persons can result
in hazards to you and others. Installation must conform with
local building codes or, in the absence of local codes, with
National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70-current edition and
Fire Codes, NFPA 90A and 90B.
The information contained in this manual is intended for use
by a qualified service technician familiar with safety proce-
dures and equipped with the proper tools and test instru-
ments.
Shut OFF electric power at unit disconnect and/or service
panel before beginning the following procedures.
Failure to carefully read and follow all instructions in this man-
ual can result in malfunction, property damage, personal
injury, and/or death.
Verify edges of foil faced insulation are not in contact with any
exposed electrical connections.
A means of strain relief and conductor protection must be pro-
vided at the supply wire entrance into cabinet.
Use copper conductors only.
