THE CLAPPER PLUS® (logo) 6-21-2006 Congratulations! You now have the convenience, flexibility and security of The Clapper Plus. No other product allows you to control your lights and appliance by sound and RF remote control. With The Clapper Plus, you can turn on or off up to two different appliances by clapping your hands. Clap two times to operate one appliance and three times to operate a different appliance. In addition to clapping, you can also turn on or off your appliances by pressing the buttons on the remote control. The Clapper Plus also has a special AWAY mode. In this mode almost any noise will turn on the connected appliance(s) which can be use as a limited function security device to discourage potential intruders. The AWAY mode is also great for temporarily turning on lights when entering a dark room such as a garage or basement. In this mode there is no need to clap or press any button -- any noise will turn on the lights! For QUICK INSTRUCTIONS on operating your Clapper Plus, please refer to the yellow Quick Tips card. (I THINK A DIAGRAM OF THE CLAPPER AND REMOTE ARE APPROPRIATE HERE. OPERATING YOUR APPLIANCES BY CLAPPING HOW TO OPERATE AN APPLIANCE WITH 2 CLAPS: 1. Set the three position switch on the side of the unit to the HOME (HI) position. 2. Plug an appliance into the left receptacle of The Clapper Plus. This is the receptacle below the “II.” The maximum wattage per outlet is 250 watts. If you are using both the 2 clap and 3 clap receptacles, the combined total wattage cannot exceed 400 watts. (e.g.; 250 watts + 150 watts) 3. Plug the Clapper Plus into the wall socket. 4. Manually turn the appliance on. The indicator light to the left of the “II” will glow when the appliance has been manually turned on, but is clapped off.
5. You can now turn your appliance on and off by clapping. You don’t have to clap very hard! The clapping sequence is more important than how loudly you clap. CLAP (pause) CLAP (pause) (pause) (pause) where each pause is approximately ½ to 1 second long. The three pauses after the second clap are very important since the Clapper Plus must determine that you are not going to clap a third time. If you did clap a third time, the appliance connected to the II clap receptacle would not activate. HOW TO OPERATE AN APPLIANCE WITH 3 CLAPS: 1. Set the three position switch on the side of the unit to the HOME (HI) position. 2. Plug an appliance into right receptacle of the Clapper Plus. This is the receptacle below “III.” The maximum wattage per outlet is 250 watts. If you are using both the 2 clap and 3 clap receptacles, the combined total wattage can not exceed 400 watts. (e.g.; 200 watts + 200 watts) 3. Plug Clapper Plus into the wall socket. 4. Manually turn the appliance on. The indicator light to the right of the “III” will glow when the appliance has been manually turned on, but is clapped off. 5. You can now turn your appliance on and off by clapping. You don’t have to clap very hard. The clapping sequence is more important than how loudly you clap: CLAP (pause) CLAP (pause) CLAP (pause) where each pause is approximately ½ to 1 second long. The last pause after the third clap is very important since the Clapper Plus must determine if you are not going to clap a forth time. If you did clap a fourth time, the appliance would not activate. CLAP DETECTION LIGHTS The three red lights on the face of the Clapper Plus will help you determine the proper way to clap your appliances on or off. Each clap detection light will glow when a proper clap (or similar sound) is detected. Claps that are too soft will not be detected. Claps that are too fast together or too long apart will be rejected as noise and as a result the appliance will not turn on. When the Clapper Plus detects the first clap (or similar sound) the first light will glow. The second light will glow if a second clap is detected about ½ second after the first clap occurs. If the Clapper Plus does not detect a third clap, it will activate the appliance attached to the “II Clap side.” If a third clap is detected, then the third light will glow and the appliance connected to the “III Clap Side” will activate.
AUTO SOUND SENSITIVITY: If room noise is detected or if a 2 clap or 3 clap sequences are not proper, the Clapper Plus will reject the sounds as noise. It indicates that it has rejected the noise by turning the LEFT and RIGHT clap detection lights on and automatically reduces the sensitivity of the Clap detection. This feature of automatically reducing the clap detection sensitivity helps to reduce background noises from turning on the appliances. The LEFT and RIGHT lights will remain on until the background noise is not detected. You can still clap while the lights are on, but because of the background noise, you will need to clap louder. When the lights go off the sensitivity of the Clapper Plus clap detection is at its greatest. You may notice the clap detection lights on occasionally even if you have not clapped. This is not unusual as the Clapper Plus has detected sounds that are similar to a clap. Your appliances should not activate as it would require a second or third sound similar to a clap within the proper time allowed. By observing the clap detection lights you can become familiar with the types of claps (or similar sounds) that will activate your appliances attached to the Clapper Plus. MANUAL SOUND SENSITIVITY You can also manually adjust your Clapper Plus to respond to soft or loud claps, as well as adjust for the noise level in your room. Placing the three position switch on the side to the Clapper Plus to the HOME (HI) position puts the Clapper Plus in the high sensitivity mode. This is helpful if your claps are soft or if the Clapper Plus is far away. Your appliance, however, may occasionally turn on or off unexpectedly as the Clapper Plus may detect other noises similar to your claps. Sliding the switch down to the HOME (LO) position will put the Clapper Plus into the low sensitivity mode. This is helpful if there is a lot of external noise in the room that may falsely activate your appliances. By adjusting the three position mode switch to the high or low sensitivity positions, you will be able to activate your appliances easily and, with less false activation due to external noises.
OPERATING YOUR APPLIANCES USING THE REMOTE CONTROL INSTALLING THE REMOTE SWITCH BATTERY 1. Remove battery cover by using a coin and turn clockwise. 2. Insert the included C2032 Lithium battery positive (+) side facing up. 3. Replace the battery cover. Use a coin and turn counter-clockwise to lock the cover. OPERATING YOUR APPLIANCE WITH THE REMOTE 1. Set the three position switch on the side of the unit to HOME (HI) or HOME (LO) sensitivity modes as described above. 2. Plug an appliance into right or left receptacle of The Clapper Plus. The maximum wattage per outlet is 250 watts. If you are using both the II and III receptacles, the combined total wattage cannot exceed 400 watts. (e.g.; 250 watts + 150 watts) 3. Plug the Clapper Plus into the wall socket. 4. Manually turn the appliance(s) on. Note: The indicator light to the left of the “II” will glow when the appliance in the II receptacle has been manually turned on, but is switched off by the Clapper Plus. The indicator light to the right of the “III” will glow when the appliance in the III receptacle has been manually turned on, but is switched off by the Clapper Plus 5. Now you can use the remote switch or clap to turn the appliances on an off. Press and hold (for about one second) the II button to turn on the appliance plugged into the II receptacle. Press it again to turn it off. Press and hold the III button (for about one second) to turn on appliance plugged into the III receptacle. Press it again to turn it off. HANDY TIPS FOR THE REMOTE (we need to cull this out on back of box) The remote can be attached to your wall or dresser using the tape on the back of the remote. The adhesive allows for repositioning and removes cleanly from most painted surfaces without damage. (CHECK SPECS ON ADHESIVE FIRST). If the tape does not stick anymore it can be rejuvenated by wiping it clean with water. Place a small amount of water on your finger tip. Wipe the tape clean and allow to air dry. This can be repeated as many times as needed. The wire key ring (enclosed) can be attached to the end of the remote to make the remote more portable. Connect to a keychain and be able to turn on your lights before you enter a room, or use a safety pin to attach to your clothing
THE AWAY Mode When in the AWAY mode, both appliances will turn on with the detection of any sound. To operate The Clapper Plus in the AWAY mode 1) Slide the three position switch down to the AWAY position. 2) The attached appliance(s) will turn off immediately and the middle clap detection light will blink indicating that you are in the AWAY mode. 3) Your appliance(s) will turn on with the detection of any sound. 4) They will remain on for 12 minutes and turn off automatically, resetting itself until the next sound is detected Hints and Tips 1) If the Clapper Plus does not turn on the appliance when the remote button is pressed. a. Make sure the battery is good and install correctly b. Move the Remote up or down or closer to the Clapper Plus. Make sure the Remote is within 25ft of the Clapper Plus. c. If you are close to the Clapper Plus and pressing and holding one of the Remote buttons down the Left and Right lights on the front the Clapper Plus should light. If not, the battery maybe discharged or not install properly. d. Make sure the appliance is plugged into the correct outlet on the Clapper Plus and the button you are pressing corresponds to that outlet. e. Make sure the Remote or the Clapper Plus is not by any metal. Since the Clapper Plus uses Radio waves to control the any metal will affect the distance of operation of the Remote Control. IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTES 1. Do not use The Clapper Plus with any electrical heating appliances such as toasters, hair dryers, coffee pots, etc. 2. Do not use The Clapper Plus with any appliance that can create a fire hazard with prolonged use.
