Safety precautions
The information you need to prevent danger to the user and other people as well as
property damage is described below. “Description of signs” shows different categories of
the degree of danger or damage that may occur due to wrong handling. “Description of
symbols” shows the meaning of the symbols.
Important notes
This book is only a guide for user's operation, not a criterion for configuration.
Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral
triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated
“dangerous voltage” within the product's enclosure that may be of
sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons.
The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to
alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance
(servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the appliance.
Warning: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove cover (or
back). NO user-serviceable parts inside. Refer RISK servicing to qualified
service personnel.

WARNING
- Remove batteries if exhausted or if they will not be used for a long period.
- The incorrect use of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage and will corrode the
compartment or cause the batteries to burst. Therefore:
- Do not mix battery types, e.g. alkaline with zinc carbonate.
- When inserting new batteries, replace all batteries at the same time.
- Minimum 5cm around the apparatus for sufficient ventilation.
- The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with

What to do in the case of an abnormality
Stop using the device immediately in the case of an abnormality or failure.
Remove the power plug from the receptacle immediately when any water
or foreign object enters the interior of the device.
It may cause a fire or electric shock. Remove the power plug immediately,
and contact your dealer for a repair.
Power cord and power plug
If any dust exists on the power plug pin or pin installation surface, remove
the power plug and remove the dust.
The mains plug is used as disconnect device, the disconnect device shall

Usage
Do not disassemble, repair, or modify the device.

A Class 1 laser product is used in the CD driving unit. The CD driving unit
stops when the cover is opened. Observe the following.

Before carrying the device, retract the antenna and remove the power
plug from the receptacle.
Failure to do so may cause a fire, electric shock, or injury.
Do not insert your hand into the CD insertion slot.
Do not use any disc that is not round.
Do not get on top of the device.
Do not place a heavy object on the device.
Do not turn up the headphone volume too much.
Do not block the ventilation hole.
When the appliance coupler is used as the disconnect
device, the appliance coupler shall remain readily operable.
Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones
can cause hearing loss.
To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high
volume levels for long periods.
Doing so may cause an injury or fire.
Installation
Do not install this equipment in a confined or building-in space such as a book
case or similar unit, and remain a well ventilation conditions. The ventilation
should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items such
as newspaper, table-cloths, curtains etc.

If the device will not be used for a long time, remove the dry batteries from the main unit.
Do not wet a dry battery with water. Do not touch it with a wet hand.

If any color shift occurs on a nearby TV or the radio of this device picks up noise from
the TV, keep this device away from the TV.

About using Bluetooth®
This unit is designed for use with Bluetooth® wireless devices compatible with the A2DP
and AVRCP streaming audio profiles. Refer to your Bluetooth® device’s user manual or
technical support to determine if your Bluetooth® device supports these profiles.
Frequency band used
This unit uses the 2.4 GHz frequency band. However other wireless devices may use 2.4 GHz
frequency band as well and may cause interference with each other. To avoid interference,
please refrain from the use of the unit at the same time with other wireless devices.
Certification of this device
This unit conforms to frequency restrictions and has received certification based on
frequency laws, so a wireless permit is not necessary.

2 Power supply
When using AC power supply
1. Insert the supply plug of the attached power cord fully into AC
socket on the back.
2. Insert the power plug into an AC receptacle.
Using dry batteries (sold separately)
Open the battery cover. Insert six UM-2/C batteries (sold separately), and close the
cover.
Make sure that the polarity is correct.
When the power cord is connected to the power supply terminal, the AC power
supply is used. To use the device with batteries, remove the power cord.
If the device will not be used for a long time (1 month or longer) or AC power
supply is used, remove the dry batteries.
Replacement period of dry batteries
When the dry batteries are low, phenomena such as low volume, sound distortion,
or malfunction of the CD may occur.
3. Power ON/OFF
Press POWER button to turn on the power.
Press and hold POWER button to turn off the power.
3 Common operation
Volume adjustment
Press VOLUME- or + button to adjust the volume.
Using headphones
Plug the stereo headphones with a mini-plug (commercially available) into PHONES
jack on the back.
While the headphones are plugged in, the sound does not come from the speaker.
4 Listening to a CD
Normal play
1. Press POWER/FUNCTION button to select CD.
“CD” mark is displayed and the display part displays “no” after “ ” blinks.
2. Open the CD cover, mount the CD with its printed face up, and then
close the CD cover.

When loading is complete, the total number of tracks is displayed.
Play
Press PLAY/PAUSE button to start to play of CD.
Pause
Press PLAY/PAUSE button during replay of the CD.
Replay of the CD is paused.
Press it again to resume replay of the CD.

Select the desired track number during replay or pause.

Press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button during replay of the CD.
One track repeat replay starts. The play mode changes as shown below every time
PROG./MEM./P-MODE button is pressed. To select random repeat, press PROG./
MEM./P-MODE button on the device until “RAN” appears.
Play mode Operation Display
One track repeat Repeats the same track. “REPEAT” blinks.
All track repeat Repeats all the tracks of the CD. “REPEAT” is displayed.
Random play Plays all the tracks of the CD
randomly. “RAN” is displayed.
Normal Plays all the tracks of the CD.
When you press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button during a pause, repeat replay is
reserved. When you press PLAY/PAUSE/MEM.-/PAIR button, repeat replay starts.
During one track repeat, you can change the track by pressing PREV/FAST
BACKWARD/TUN.- or NEXT/FAST FORWARD/TUN.+ button.
Caution
When you press STOP/MEM.+ button, replay stops and repeat replay is canceled.
Canceling repeat replay during repeat replay
Press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button several times until “REPEAT” and “RAN” are not
displayed any more. The device returns to normal replay.
Programmed replay
1.
Press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button during a stop to start program
setting.
“P01” is displayed and “PROGRAM” blinks.
2. Press PREV/FAST BACKWARD/TUN.- or NEXT/FAST FORWARD/
TUN.+ button to select the desired track number you want to
program.
3. Press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button.
Your desired track number is set to P01, and “P02” is displayed.
4. Press PREV/FAST BACKWARD/TUN.- or NEXT/FAST FORWARD/
TUN.+ button to select the desired track number you want to
program.
5. Press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button.
Your desired track number is set to P02, and “P03” is displayed.
Commercially available music CD: You can program up to 20 tracks you like. If you try
to program the 21st track, “FUL” is displayed and the programming is refused.
6. To finish the program setting, press PLAY/PAUSE/MEM.-/PAIR
button.
Programmed replay of the track selected for Program 1 starts.
Repeat programmed replay
Press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button during programmed replay of the
CD.
Repeat replay of programmed tracks starts.
Note
The program is cancelled when the CD is replaced or STOP/MEM.+ button while stopped
is pressed.

5 Listening to Bluetooth® Music
1. Press POWER/FUNCTION button to select the Bluetooth® mode.
The display will show "bt" and the "bt" will start blinking for searching Bluetooth®
device and the unit plays the notification sound.
2. Following the instructions in your device's user manual, activate
Bluetooth® on your device and search for the unit "TY-CWS9" and
connect. Input the password "0000" if required.
The "bt" will light up and the unit plays the notification sound.
3. Select and Play music from the connected Bluetooth device.
4. Adjust the volume on the device or unit to increase or decrease the
volume as desired.
Notes
Press and hold PLAY/PAUSE/MEM.-/PAIR button to disconnect the Bluetooth® device
currently connected and connecting another Bluetooth® device. To connect with
another device, follow Step 2 procedure above.
The unit start pairing automatically with the last-paired device when the power is turn
ON and Bluetooth function second time or later.
You can playback and pause playback by pressing PLAY/PAUSE button.
You can select a desired track by pressing NEXT and PREV button.
The Bluetooth® works best within 10 meters.
6 Listening to the radio
Normal reception
1. Press POWER/FUNCTION button to select FM or AM.
2. Use PREV/FAST BACKWARD/TUN.- or NEXT/FAST FORWARD/TUN.+
button to select a desired station.
Automatic tuning stop
Press and hold the PREV/FAST BACKWARD/TUN.- or NEXT/FAST FORWARD/TUN.+
button to start tuning. Tuning stops automatically when a station is received.
Presetting radio stations
You can preset up to 30 radio stations.
Automatic tuning preset
1. Direct the antenna/main unit to the optimal direction and confirm
radio signals are being received.
2. Press button to select FM or AM band. Select the band (FM or AM)
you want to program.
3. Press and hold PLAY/PAUSE/MEM.-/PAIR button. The device will
automatically tune in and preset all of the stations that can be
received in your area.
Manual tuning preset
1. Press PREV/FAST BACKWARD/TUN.- or NEXT/FAST FORWARD/TUN.+
button to select a desired station.
2. Press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button.
“P” is displayed and the number blinks.
While the number is blinking, press PLAY/PAUSE/MEM.-/PAIR or STOP/MEM.+ button
to select the desired preset number you want to program.
3. Press PROG./MEM./P-MODE button again.
4. If you preset other stations, repeat steps 1 through 3.
Select the preset radio stations
Press PLAY/PAUSE/MEM.-/PAIR or STOP/MEM.+ button to select and
listen to the stored station directly.
The preset number is displayed for 5 seconds and then the frequency of the radio
station is displayed.
Note
Preset memory will be erased in case the power cord and batteries are removed for more
than 1 hour.
For better reception
FM broadcast: Extend the antenna and direct it to the optimal direction where
the sound quality is the best.
AM broadcast: Direct the main unit to the optimal direction where the sound
quality is the best.
7 Listening to the external audio product
1. Connect AUX IN jack of this device to the headphone terminal of
the external audio product with a connection cord with the 3.5
stereo mini-plug (separate sale).
2. Press POWER/FUNCTION button to select AUX.
3. Replay the external audio product.
4. Adjust the volume with VOLUME- or + button.
8 Maintenance method
CD pickup (lens)
If the lens in the CD mount is stained, the CD may skip or become unable to play.
Blow the lens a few times with a commercially available blower, and remove the dust
using the tip of a brush. To remove stains such as fingerprints, damp a cotton swab with
commercially available lens cleaner, and wipe the lens lightly with it by drawing circles
outward from the center.
Condensation
Condensation (water drops) may occur on the internal lens when the ambient
temperature changes suddenly.
The device may not play a CD normally in this state. In this case, remove the CD,
leave the device in the location of use for about an hour, and then start using the
device.
Maintenance of the main unit
Wipe off stain lightly with a soft cloth. If stain is severe, wipe it off with a cloth
damped with neutral detergent solution and wrung tightly, and dry it with a dry
cloth.
Do not use benzene or thinner, etc. Do not spray any volatile chemical such as
insecticide on the cabinet.
9 When you suspect a failure

Notes
If the display or operation becomes abnormal while a CD is being played, press and
hold, then release POWER/FUNCTION button, remove the power cord, remove the
batteries, connect the power cord again, and press POWER/FUNCTION button.
Part of the cabinet may be slightly hot when the device is used for a long time. This is not
a failure.
