General notes It is mandatory to read and observe this prior to using the appliance! — Notify your sales outlet if during unpacking you detect damage that has occurred in transit. ! Read the operating instructions of your appliance prior to putting it into operation, especially the safety information. — The warning signs and information labels attached to the unit provide important advice on its safe operation. — In addition to the instructions in the operating instructions, general safety- and accident prevention-regulations from lawgivers must be followed. Use ! The unit shall be exclusively used in accordance with the specifications given in these operating instructions. ! Prior to utilization the appliance and its working facilities must be checked regarding their proper condition and that they operate safely. It must not be used if its condition is not faultless. — The unit is intended for sweeping inside- and outside surfaces. — No modifications permitted on the machine. KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P — Never absorb explosive liquids, inflammable gases or undiluted acids and solvents! This includes petrol, paint thinner or fuel oil, which can form explosive fumes due to the swirling suction air, in addition acetone, undiluted acids and solvents, since they corrode the materials used for the appliance. — Do not sweep up/absorb burning or smouldering objects. Only if expressly marked as such is this appliance suitable for sucking up health-hazardous dust types. Observe the safety-related notes given in the operating instructions. — Suitable only for the surfaces listed in the operating instructions. — The appliance may be used on only the areas cleared for its use by the factory owner or a person authorized by him. — Keep clear of the danger area. Its operation in explosion hazardous locations is prohibited. — The following applies generally: Keep combustible materials away from the machine (danger of explosions-/fire). Operation — The rules, regulations and stipulations applying to motor vehicles must always be observed. — The operator must use the unit in accordance with its intended purpose. She must adapt her mode of operation to the local conditions and when working with the appliance keep a look out for third parties, especially children. — The appliance may only be used by persons instructed in its handling or who have proved their capability of operating it and who are expressely authorized to use it. — The unit must not be operated by children and youths. ! To prevent unauthorized utilization of appliances provided with an ignition key the ignition key must be removed. ! The appliance must never be left unattended as long as the motor is running. The operator may not leave the appliance until the motor is turned off, the appliance is safeguarded against unintentional motion, if necessary the parking brake actuated and the ignition key removed. — On slopes the angle of inclination to the side and in the direction of motion must not exceed the value given in the operating instructions. Transport ! The motor must be turned off when the appliance is transported. ! Secure the machine with guy belts, ropes or chains. ! Immobilise the machine at the wheels with chocks. English Maintenance ! The unit must be switched off and, if necessary, the ignition key removed prior to cleaning it, performing maintenance work on it, replacing parts or resetting it to a different operation. ! For battery-run appliances the battery plug must be pulled out of the socket prior to work on the electrical equipment, i.e. the battery is to be disconnected. — Repairs may only be carried out by approved customer service centres or by technical personnel trained in this field which are familiar with all relevant safety regulations. — Industrially used appliances in changing locations are subject to the safety inspection according to VDE 0701. — Use only the main brushes/side brushes fitted in the unit or specified in the operating instructions. Using other main brushes/side brushes can be detrimental to safety. — The unit may not be cleaned with a hose- or a high pressure water jet (danger of short circuits or other damages). Accessories and spare parts — Only accessories and spare parts cleared by the manufacturer may be used. Genuine accessories and spare parts guarantee that the unit can be operated safely and trouble-free. Riding appliances — Riding appliances are not approved for public highways. Please ask your retailer for the conversion kit for streetworthiness. — Giving companions lifts is not permissible. — Riding appriances may be set in motion only from the seat. Battery driven appliances — Warranty is valid only when you use the batteries and charging units recommended by Kärcher. ! It is mandatory to comply with the battery manufacturer's operating instructions. Heed the statutory recommendations on handling batteries. ! Never leave a battery in a run down condition but recharge it as soon as possible. ! Keep the batteries always clean and dry to prevent leaking currents. Protect it from contamination, for example, by metallic dust. ! When mounting the batteries in the KM 100/100 R make absolutely sure you also install the battery terminal fuse. (see maintenance work, chapter on replacing fuses) ! Do not place tools or similar objects on the battery. Hazard of short circuits and explosion. ! Do not under any circumstances work with an open flame, create sparks or smoke near a battery or in a battery recharging room. Explosion hazard. ! Do not touch hot parts, for example, the driving engine (hazard of burns). 19 Operating instructions ! Take care when handling accumulator acid. Heed the relevant safety regulations! ! Used batteries are to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way, according to EC-guideline 91/157 EWG. Safety features Safety features are provided for the protection of the operator, and it is forbidden to disconnent them or circumvent their operation. EMERGENCY STOP pushbutton — For an instant stop of all operations. — To unlatch it turn it slighly to the left or the right and then release it. Seat contact switch — If the machine is left during operation, the engine switches off via the seat contact switch. Risk of overturning on too high gradients! Danger! The machine could topple over when driving and turning on slopes. — Drive only on slopes up to 18 % in the travelling direction. — At right angles to direction of travel only negotiate gradients up to a maximum of 15 %. KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P Risk of overturning when taking bends rapidly! Danger! The machine can topple-over when driving fast around curves. ! Drive slowly in curves. Danger of tipping over given an unstable travelling surface! Danger! The machine can tip over given an unstable travelling surface. ! Move the machine exclusively on a solid travelling surface. Danger of tipping over given a sideways incline that is too large! Danger! The machine can tip over given an incline of more than 15 %. For our environment English Function description sweeping machine Control elements The KM 100/100 R sweeper operates according to the throwover principle. — The side brush (3) cleans corners and edges of the sweeping surface and transports the dirt in the path of the main brush. — The rotating main brush (4) transports the dirt directly into the debris container (5). — The dust swirled up in the container is separated by way of the dust filter (2) and the filtered, clean air removed by the suction turbine (1). 1. Do not dispose of exhausted batteries as ordinary household garbage. ! Ensure environmentally compatible disposal. Endangerung of environment by packaging materials! Domestic rubbish is not the proper place for used packaging materials. ! Make sure that they are ecologically recycled. Intended use — This sweeper is intended for sweeping inside- and outside surfaces. — It is not intended for use on public traffic routes. — It is not suitable for healthhazardous dusts. 1. Horn 2. Battery charge indicator 20 Operating instructions Machine components KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P English Operating sweeping machine without automotive power Open/close unit cover Danger! Prior to manually releasing the parking brake the sweeper is to be secured against movement. After the parking brake is released the sweeper coasts unbraked. 1. Unit cover 2. Debris container (bilateral) 3. Coarse-dirt flap 4. Roller 5. Side brush Open unit cover ! Swivel unit cover upwards at the provided handle grip ! Insert the stay bar into the adapter at the suction turbine ! To close the unit cover pull the stay bar out of the holder and engage it in the bracket in the unit cover Warning! Generally it is not permitted for the parking brake to be released when loading the machine. — The machine was secured on a pallet with stretch belts or ropes for safe transport. Proceed as follows when unloading: ! Cut the plastic packing tape and remove the film. ! Remove the blocks for securing the wheels and drive the machine off the pallet using a suitable ramp. Warning! Do not use a fork lifter for unloading; the machine can be damaged by it. Before first operating The sweeper has an electric drive. The machine can be pushed only if the trigger is pulled away from the wheel. (See chapter: Moving the sweeper without its own drive) Unloading instructions When opened the unit cover is secured by a stay bar. ! Pull the brake lever away from the wheel and hold it tight in this position — The function of the parking brake is thus out of action and the sweeper can be pushed ! Pull stay bar out of the bracket 21 Operating instructions KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P Before every operation Commissioning General notes Adjust driver seat ! Stand sweeper on a flat surface ! Turn off key switch (position "0") Switching on the machine Run machine ! Sit on the driver seat ! Do NOT actuate the drive pedal! Danger Do not stand up when driving – danger of falling. Note: The machine is equipped with a seat contact switch. The machine is switched off and the parking brake is automatically applied when the driver leaves his seat. Testing and maintenance work ! Check charge condition of battery * ! Check side brushes * ! Check main brush * ! Empty the swept material container ! Check tyre inflation pressure * English ! Open unit cover, engage stay bar ! Unscrew the 4 screws at the seat contact switch plate ! Remove the plate ! Turn the seat forward Prior to start of the machine * See maintenance work chapter for instructions ! Slightly loosen wing nuts of seat runners ! Push the seat into the appropriate position ! Retighten wing nuts ! Unscrew 4 screws of seat mounting ! Shift seat and refasten with screws ! Remount seat contact switch plate ! The main brush and side brush switches are in their upper position ! The main brush and side brush switches are in their upper position ! Switching on the machine Note: There is a further adjustment possibility if the adjusting range is insufficient ! Turn the key switch to position "I" Drive forwards ! Slowly press the driving pedal 22 Operating instructions KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P Sweeping operation Warning! In order to avoid damaging the floor do not operate the sweeper while it is stationary. When stopped the sweeping system continues running for approx. four more seconds. ! The coarse-dirt flap must be briefly raised for sweeping in largish objects up to a height of 60 mm, e.g. drinks cans. English Note: An optimal cleaning effect can be achieved only when the coarse-dirt flap is completely lowered Stop machine Warning! It is possible for debris to be thrown forwards when the coarse-dirt flap is raised. A hazard for bystanders. Danger Do not stand up when driving – danger of falling. Drive backwards ! Slowly press the driving pedal ! Lower side brushes (for sweeping in border areas ! Raise the side and the main brush — Sweeping with side brushes ! Turn key switch to "0" and remove key Note: Driving behaviour — The driving speed can be varied continuously with the driving pedals. — Slightly release drive pedal if power decrease is registered uphill. Braking ! Ease pressure on drive pedal, the sweeper brakes automatically and stops. ! Lower main brush Raise coarse-dirt flap ! Press pedal forwards and keep it depressed ! To lower it, lift foot off pedal Warning! If while the drive pedal is actuated the seat contact switch or the key switch are turned on the drive system will be turned off and the side brush, the main brush, the blower fan as well as the LEDs will be turned on. (Service operation) Remedy: ! Release pedal — Sweeping with the main brush — Sweeping with raised coarse-dirt flap Notes: — When they are lowered the main and the side brushes automatically start turning — Adding the function of the side brush is possible only if the main brush is operative Note: The dust filter is automatically dedusted for approx. 15 s after shutting down of the machine. Do not open the unit cover while this is going on. Note: The machine is provided with an automatic parking brake, which is activated when the engine is stopped and the driver leaves his seat. 23 Operating instructions Empty the swept material container ! Wait until automatic filter dedusting is completed and the dust has settled before opening the debris container and emptying it. KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P Usage instructions Sweeping system overload warning In order to avoid damage to its sweeping system the sweeper is provided with an overload warning and a shut-off. Fixed obstacles over 50 mm in height ! May be driven-over only with a suitable ramp. Warning! — Never sweep up packing straps, wires or the like as this could damage the sweeping mechanism. Notes: ! For optimum cleaning effect, match the driving speed to suit the actual conditions. ! During operation the debris container should be emptied at regular intervals. ! Lower only the main brush when sweeping large floor surfaces. ! Also lower the side brush when cleaning inner surface edges. Driving over obstacles Fixed obstacles of up to 50 mm in height ! Slowly and carefully drive over them in the forward direction. Safety instructions when sweeping — When the coarse-dirt flap is open, the main brush can hurl stones or stone chips forwards. Make sure that nobody, no animals or objects are endangered. ! Pull out debris container ! Empty the swept material container ! Slide in and lock the debris container ! Then perform the same operations on the opposite debris container Sweeping dry ground English ! Close the bypass cover on left behind the seat Sweeping damp or wet ground ! Open the bypass cover on left behind the seat — This protects the filter from damp Drive system overload warning To prevent damage to the drive system the sweeper is provided with an overload warning and a shut-off. — The overload warning flashes if the overload of the drive system reaches a critical stage. The overload can be sustained for 1 min. , after which the sweeper is switched off by the control. — The control switches the sweeper off immediately if the drive system’s overload exceeds the overload limit. — If the load on the sweeping system reaches the overload limit the overload warning lights up and the control switches the sweeping system off after 4 s. Resetting ! Switch off sweeping system ! Turn the key switch to position "0" ! Turn the key switch to position "I" Resetting ! Stop machine ! Turn the key switch to position "0" ! Turn the key switch to position "I" 24 Operating instructions Battery discharging warning Green Battery is charged Yellow Battery is almost dead ! Stop sweeping and charge battery Red Battery flat — Sweeping system switched off by control ! Charge the battery see chapter on "Maintenance" Flashing red — Discharge limit reached — 3 more min. driving possible, then the sweeper turns itself off ! Then the sweeper cannot be restarted any more, the battery must be recharged for at least 3 hours KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P English Decommissioning External cleaning Please heed the following if sweeper is not to be used for a lengthy period: ! Stand sweeper on a flat surface ! Turn key switch to "0" and remove key ! Safeguard the sweeping machine from rolling away ! Clean inside and outside of sweeper ! Turn off the machine on a protected and dry place ! Charge the battery and recharge it at intervals of approx. every two months Clean with a damp cloth previously soaked in mild suds Note: Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents! Fastening areas Notes: Observe markings for fastening areas on base frame! (chain symbols) For loading or unloading the machine may be operated on slopes of only up to a max. of 18 % Maintenance intervals Elapsed-time meter Transport Transport instructions ! Turn key switch to "0" and remove key ! Secure the machine with wedges on the wheels ! Secure the machine with stretch belts or ropes Cleaning and maintenance ! Stand sweeper on a flat surface ! Turn key switch to "0" and remove key Internal cleaning Danger! Wear dust mask! Wear safety goggles! ! Open unit cover, engage stay bar ! Clean with a rag Note: The filter cartridge can be cleaned with water. Prior to re-inserting it the filter must be completely dried. Elapsed-time meter indicates maintenance interval times. Maintenance by the customer Daily maintenance ! Check the tyre air pressure ! Check roller and side brush for wear and trapped straps ! Check the function of all operating controls Maintenance weekly ! Checking the battery acid level ! Check freedom of movement of Bowden cables and moving parts ! Check setting and wear of sealing strips in sweeping area ! Checking the vacuum system Maintenance every 100 operating hours ! Check operation of seat contact switch ! Check tightness, wear and operation of drive belts (V-belts and round belts) Maintenance according to degree of wear ! Replace sealing strips ! Replacing the sweep roller ! Replacing the side broom See maintenance tasks chapter for description Note: All service and maintenance work must be performed by qualified and skilled personnel. Turn key switch to "0" and remove key Maintenance after 20 operating hours Maintenance every 100 operating hours Maintenance every 300 operating hours Maintenance every 500 operating hours Maintenance every 1000 operating hours Maintenance every 1500 operating hours Note: To safeguard warranty rights, during the warranty period all service and maintenance work must be performed by an authorised Kärcher after sales service. Notes on safety Battery safety instructions Danger! Always heed safety precautions for handling batteries! Comply with the battery manufacturer’s service manual Work on batteries is permitted only after instruction by trained personnel Danger! ! Wear safety goggles and protective clothing ! Observe regulations for the prevention of accidents as well as DIN VDE 0510, VDE 0105 T.1 Danger of acid burns! ! Rinse out or rinse off splashes of acid in the eye or on the skin with copious quantities of clean water ! Then consult a doctor immediately ! Wash contaminated clothing with water — Old batteries with this symbol are reusable commodities and must therefore be returned for recycling — Old batteries which are not returned for recycling must be disposed of as special waste, thereby observing all statutory regulations Danger! Have the battery installed only by a Kärcher service mechanic and in compliance with the battery manufacturer’s specifications English Charge the battery Danger! The unit cover must remain open while the battery is charged. Explosion hazard! KM 100/100 R: Danger! ! Always heed safety precautions for handling batteries! ! Charge the battery with an appropriate charger recommended by Kärcher (manufacture no.: 6.654-107) ! Strictly comply with the specifications of the battery charger’s and the battery’s manufacturers Charging condition indicator Yellow Battery is charging Green Battery is charged Red Fault, inform Kärcher’s after-sales service KM 100/100 R P: ! Open unit cover, engage stay bar ! Insert power plug Danger! Risk of fire and explosion! — Smoking prohibited — No naked flames, glowing embers or sparks in the vicinity of batteries — Do not place any objects or tools on the battery because voltage is always present between the battery poles — Areas in which batteries are charged must be well ventilated, as highly explosive gas forms during charging 26 Operating instructions Check and top up the battery’s fluid level Warning! ! Regularly check the fluid level of acid-filled batteries. ! Open all cell plugs KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P Changing wheels Danger! Preparations ! Stand sweeper on a flat surface ! Turn off key switch and remove the key ! Wear warning clothing when performing repair work on public streets where it is dangerous because of moving traffic . ! Check that the ground is stable ! Protect the machine additionally from moving with a wheel chock Recommended express assistance: ! Check the tyre tread for imbedded objects ! Remove the objects ! Use a suitable, commercially available tyre repair agent ! If the fluid level is too low fill up cells with distilled water up to mark ! Close cell plugs ! Charge the battery Check the tyre air pressure ! The air pressure in the rear tyres must be set to 6 bar. English Notes: Comply with the recommendations of the respective manufacturers Continuing the journey is possible if the recommendations of the product manufacturer are observed Change the tyre or the wheel as soon as possible ! Unscrew wheel bolt ! Place the jack in position Note: The vacuum pump operates only if vacuum is built-up in the system. Consult after-sales service if the pump operates continuously. Checking traction belt Jack fixing point (rear wheels) ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Hose connection to vacuum canister of side brush lowering ! The traction belts must be regularly checked for wear and damage. Hose connections to vacuum canister for lowering main brush Traction belt for suction turbine Hose connections to vacuum pump and to vacuum canister (storage) Traction belt for main brush Lift the machine with the jack Remove wheel bolt Slide the wheel off Position the spare wheel Screw in wheel bolt Lower the machine with the jack Tighten wheel bolt Note: Use an appropriate, commercially available jack and a chock Checking the vacuum system — Adding a sweeping system is with the aid of a vacuum system. — If the side brush or the main brush cannot be lowered check the vacuum canisters for proper connection of the hose lines, if applicable re-connect the hose concerned. — The vacuum system is leaky if the side brush or the main brush still cannot be lowered. In this case after-sales service must be contacted. 27 Operating instructions Checking the sealing cup ! The sealing cup must be regularly checked for a proper fit. KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P Check the sweep roller Replace the sweep roller ! Stand sweeper on a flat surface ! Raise the sweep roller ! Turn key switch to "0" and remove key ! Secure the machine against rolling away using a wedge ! Remove the debris container from both sides of the unit — Replacing it is necessary when the sweeping effect visibly deteriorates due to wear of the bristles. ! Stand sweeper on a flat surface ! Raise the sweep roller ! Turn key switch to "0" and remove key ! Secure the machine against rolling away using a wedge ! Remove the debris container from both sides of the unit English ! Unscrew screws ! Pull off the main brush rocker arm ! Unscrew front screw of right side panellint ! Loosen fastening screw of the bowden cable and unhitch the cable ! Lift off cover and remove main brush ! Unscrew rear screws of right side panelling ! Unscrew the screw at the fulcrum of the main brush rocker arm Sealing cup at the suction turbine ! Remove tapes and string from the sweep roller Replacing side brush ! Unscrew fastening screws (3 pieces) at the underside ! Slip side brush on carrier and screw it tight 28 Operating instructions KM 100/100 R / KM 100/100 R P Adjusting and replacing sealing strips English Front sealing strip Rear sealing strip Side sealing strips ! Slightly loosen fastening nut at the front sealing strip, unscrew it to replace it ! Screw on new sealing strip but do not yet tighten nuts ! The floor clearance of the sealing strip is set so that it bends backward with a lag of 5 - 10 mm ! Replace if worn ! Slightly loosen fastening nuts of the side sealing strip, unscrew them to replace it ! Screw on new sealing strip but do not yet tighten nuts !
