PARENTAL CONTROL / RATINGS Parental Control Setup Some movies contain scenes that may not be suitable for children to view. Many of these discs contain parental control information that applies to the complete disc or to certain scenes on the disc. Movies and scenes are rated from 1 to 8, depending on the country. Some discs offer more suitable scenes as an alternative. The parental control feature allows you to block access to scenes above the rating you input, thereby preventing your children from being able to view material you believe is unsuitable. Each DVD disc has a variety of audio output options. Set the player’s AUDIO options according to the type of audio system you use. This allows you to listen to a movie at a lower volume without losing clarity of sound. Set DRC to On for this effect. 55 DVD OPERATION PLAYING A DVD OR VIDEO CD Basic Playback Fast Forward/Backward 1POWER Turn TV on. Slide your chosen disc into the disc slot on the side panel. Be sure to face the top of the disc (with title etc.) toward the front of the screen. Playback starts. Press this button during playback. Select the required speed: X2, X4, X8, X16 or X32 (backward/ forward). Return to normal playback. DVD OPERATION Stop Playback/Ejection Stop playback. At this time, DVD/VCD player stops playback temporarily and maintains the current playback position.(At this time, if you press p l a y button, Playback will resume from the location where you stopped playback.) Press this button again to stop playback fully. (At this time, if you press p l a y button, disc playback start from the beginning.) 3 EJECT ■ Slow Motion 1SLOW - If you have a disc problem during playback, remove the disc by pressing and holding down the button on the side panel for 5 seconds. The Disc will come out completely. After that, turn the TV off and then on again. Return to normal playback. ■ There is no sound during fast or slow playback for DVDs or Video CDs. Slow motion playback in reverse is not possible with Video CDs. Skip a Chapter/Track 1SKIP - Pause Playback (Still Mode) Press this button during playback. A-B A-B DVD OPERATION SUBTITLE Press it during playback to see the different subtitle languages. Zoom Select the end point. “ AB” is displayed on TV screen and the ending point is set up. Playback starts at the point that you selected. Playback stops at the end point, returns to Point A automatically, then starts again. When enlarging the picture, it may become distorted. Resume normal playback. ZOOM ZOOM Press this button during playback. Press it repeatedly to change the TV screen in the sequence: 2x, 3x, 4x. A-B Camera Angle (DVD only) Adjust the main picture position while in the enlarged picture mode. ■ Zoom may not work on some DVDs. If the scene was recorded from multiple angles, you can easily change the camera angle of the scene you are currently watching. ANGLE PBC Set Playback Control (PBC) to On or Off. ANGLE ■ ■ ■ 58 Press this button during playback. Press it repeatedly to select the desired angle. You can only change the angle for DVDs that provide multiple angles of scenes. The angle function will not work on DVD video discs that do not contain scenes recorded at different angles. The number of angles varies from disc to disc. If you press the E N T E R button while playing an MP3 disc, the slide show starts. 61 PICTURE CONTROL PICTURE SIZE (ASPECT RATIO) CONTROL This feature lets you choose the way an analog picture with a 4:3 aspect ratio is displayed on your TV. ! NOTE If a fixed image is displayed on the screen for very long time, the image could become imprinted on the screen and remain visible. This phenomenon is common to all manufacturers and is not covered by warranty. Normally it will dissipate after a few minutes. Set by program Zoom 1 Selects the proper picture proportion to match the source’s image. Choose Zoom 1 when you want to view the picture without any alteration. However, the top and bottom portions of the picture will be cropped. (4:3 16:9) Zoom 2 Choose Zoom 2 when you want the picture to be altered, both vertically extended and cropped. The picture taking a halfway trade off between alteration and screen coverage. PICTURE CONTROL (16:9 4:3) 4:3 Choose 4:3 when you want to view a picture with an original 4:3 aspect ratio. Just Scan 16:9 Adjust the picture horizontally, in a linear proportion to fill the entire screen. Normally the edges of video signals are cropped 1-2%. Just Scan turns off this cropping and shows the complete video. Notes: If there is noise on the edges of the original signal, it will be visible when Just Scan is activated.
