The Physical number isthe actual digital channel number, the Major isthe number that the channel should bemapped to, and the Minor is the sub-channel.Since the ATSC tuner automatically maps thechannel to the Major number, the Physicalnumber is not required when sending acommand.Data 00: Physical Channel NumberNTSC air: 02~45, NTSC cable: 01, 0E~7DATSC air: 01~45, ATSC cable: 01~87Data 01 & 02: Major Channel NumberData 01: High byte Data 02: Low byteTwo bytes are available for the Major andMinor, normally only the second byte is used.Data 03 & 04: Minor Channel NumberNot needed for NTSC.The table lists the binary code which must beconverted to Hexadecimal before sending. Forexample:The binary code to tune the sub source to anNTSC cable channel is “1000 0001”, whichtranslates to “81”in Hex.* 7th bit : For which source do you want tochange the channel.* 6th bit: Use a two part or one part channel. Most cases just use 0 since it’s ignoredwhen using NTSC.* 5th bit: Use 0 with NTSC since it can onlyuse the physical channel number. Our General Public Licensesare designed to make sure that you have thefreedom to distribute copies of free software (andcharge for this service if you wish), that you receivesource code or can get it if you want it, that you canchange the software or use pieces of it in new freeprograms; and that you know you can do thesethings. To protect your rights, we need to makerestrictions that forbid anyone to deny you theserights or to ask you to surrender the rights. Theserestrictions translate to certain responsibilities foryou if you distribute copies of the software, or ifyou modify it.For example, if you distribute copies of such aprogram, whether gratis or for a fee, you must givethe recipients all the rights that you have. You mustmake sure that they, too, receive or can get thesource code. And you must show them theseterms so they know their rights. We protect your rights with two steps: (1) copyrightthe software, and (2) offer you this license whichgives you legal permission to copy, distribute and/or modify the software. Also, for each author’s protection and ours, wewant to make certain that everyone understandsthat there is no warranty for this free software. Ifthe software is modified by someone else andpassed on, we want its recipients to know thatwhat they have is not the original, so that anyproblems introduced by others will not reflect onthe original authors’reputations. Finally, any free program is threatened constantlyby software patents. We wish to avoid the dangerthat redistributors of a free program will individuallyobtain patent licenses, in effect making theprogram proprietary. To prevent this, we havemade it clear that any patent must be licensed foreveryone’s free use or not licensed at all.The precise terms and conditions for copying, distribution and modification follow.TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COPYING,DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICATION0. This License applies to any program or otherwork which contains a notice placed by thecopyright holder saying it may be distributedunder the terms of this General Public License. The “Program”, below, refers to any suchprogram or work, and a “work based on theProgram”means either the Program or anyderivative work under copyright law: that is tosay, a work containing the Program or a portionof it, either verbatim or with modifications and/or translated into another language. (Hereinafter, translation is included without limitation in theterm “modification”.) Each licensee isaddressed as “you”.Activities other than copying, distribution andmodification are not covered by this License;they are outside its scope. The act of runningthe Program is not restricted, and the outputfrom the Program is covered only if its contentsconstitute a work based on the ProgramENGLISH
OPEN SOURCE LICENSE 141(independent of having been made by runningthe Program). Whether that is true depends onwhat the Program does.1. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies ofthe Program’s source code as you receive it, inany medium, provided that you conspicuouslyand appropriately publish on each copy anappropriate copyright notice and disclaimer ofwarranty; keep intact all the notices that refer tothis License and to the absence of any warranty;and give any other recipients of the Program acopy of this License along with the Program. You may charge a fee for the physical act oftransferring a copy, and you may at your optionoffer warranty protection in exchange for a fee.2. You may modify your copy or copies of theProgram or any portion of it, thus forming a workbased on the Program, and copy and distributesuch modifications or work under the terms ofSection 1 above, provided that you also meet allof these conditions:a You must cause the modified files to carryprominent notices stating that you changed thefiles and the date of any change.bYou must cause any work that you distribute orpublish, that in whole or in part contains or isderived from the Program or any part thereof,to be licensed as a whole at no charge to allthird parties under the terms of this License.c If the modified program normally readscommands interactively when run, you mustcause it, when started running for suchinteractive use in the most ordinary way, toprint or display an announcement including anappropriate copyright notice and a notice thatthere is no warranty (or else, saying that youprovide a warranty) and that users mayredistribute the program under theseconditions, and telling the user how to view acopy of this License. (Exception: if the Programitself is interactive but does not normally printsuch an announcement, your work based onthe Program is not required to print anannouncement.)These requirements apply to the modified workas a whole. If identifiable sections of that workare not derived from the Program, and can bereasonably considered independent andseparate works in themselves, then thisLicense, and its terms, do not apply to thosesections when you distribute them as separateworks. But when you distribute the samesections as part of a whole which is a workbased on the Program, the distribution of thewhole must be on the terms of this License, whose permissions for other licensees extendto the entire whole, and thus to each and everypart regardless of who wrote it.Thus, it is not the intent of this section to claimrights or contest your rights to work writtenentirely by you; rather, the intent is to exercisethe right to control the distribution of derivativeor collective works based on the Program. In addition, mere aggregation of another worknot based on the Program with the Program (orwith a work based on the Program) on a volumeof a storage or distribution medium does notbring the other work under the scope of thisLicense.3. You may copy and distribute the Program (or awork based on it, under Section 2) in object codeor executable form under the terms of Sections1 and 2 above provided that you also do one ofthe following:a Accompany it with the completecorresponding machine-readable source code, which must be distributed under the terms ofSections 1 and 2 above on a mediumcustomarily used for software interchange; or,bAccompany it with a written offer, valid for atleast three years, to give any third party, for acharge no more than your cost of physicallyperforming source distribution, a completemachine-readable copy of the correspondingsource code, to be distributed under the termsof Sections 1 and 2 above on a mediumcustomarily used for software interchange; or,c Accompany it with the information youreceived as to the offer to distributecorresponding source code. (This alternative isallowed only for noncommercial distributionand only if you received the program in objectcode or executable form with such an offer, inaccord with Subsection b above.)The source code for a work means the preferredform of the work for making modifications to it.For an executable work, complete source codeENGLISH
142 OPEN SOURCE LICENSEmeans all the source code for all modules itcontains, plus any associated interface definitionfiles, plus the scripts used to control compilationand installation of the executable. However, as aspecial exception, the source code distributedneed not include anything that is normallydistributed (in either source or binary form) withthe major components (compiler, kernel, and soon) of the operating system on which theexecutable runs, unless that component itselfaccompanies the executable. If distribution of executable or object code ismade by offering access to copy from adesignated place, then offering equivalentaccess to copy the source code from the sameplace counts as distribution of the source code, even though third parties are not compelled tocopy the source along with the object code.4. You may not copy, modify, sublicense, ordistribute the Program except as expresslyprovided under this License. Any attemptotherwise to copy, modify, sublicense ordistribute the Program is void, and willautomatically terminate your rights under thisLicense. However, parties who have receivedcopies, or rights, from you under this Licensewill not have their licenses terminated so long assuch parties remain in full compliance.5. You are not required to accept this License, since you have not signed it. However, nothingelse grants you permission to modify ordistribute the Program or its derivative works. These actions are prohibited by law if you do notaccept this License. Therefore, by modifying ordistributing the Program (or any work based onthe Program), you indicate your acceptance ofthis License to do so, and all its terms andconditions for copying, distributing or modifyingthe Program or works based on it.6. Each time you redistribute the Program (or anywork based on the Program), the recipientautomatically receives a license from the originallicensor to copy, distribute or modify theProgram subject to these terms and conditions. You may not impose any further restrictions onthe recipients’exercise of the rights grantedherein. You are not responsible for enforcingcompliance by third parties to this License.7. If, as a consequence of a court judgment orallegation of patent infringement or for any otherreason (not limited to patent issues), conditionsare imposed on you (whether by court order, agreement or otherwise) that contradict theconditions of this License, they do not excuseyou from the conditions of this License. If youcannot distribute so as to satisfy simultaneouslyyour obligations under this License and anyother pertinent obligations, then as aconsequence you may not distribute theProgram at all. For example, if a patent licensewould not permit royalty-free redistribution ofthe Program by all those who receive copiesdirectly or indirectly through you, then the onlyway you could satisfy both it and this Licensewould be to refrain entirely from distribution ofthe Program. If any portion of this section is held invalid orunenforceable under any particularcircumstance, the balance of the section isintended to apply and the section as a whole isintended to apply in other circumstances. It is not the purpose of this section to induce youto infringe any patents or other property rightclaims or to contest validity of any such claims;this section has the sole purpose of protectingthe integrity of the free software distributionsystem, which is implemented by public licensepractices. Many people have made generouscontributions to the wide range of softwaredistributed through that system in reliance onconsistent application of that system; it is up tothe author/donor to decide if he or she is willingto distribute software through any other systemand a licensee cannot impose that choice. This section is intended to make thoroughlyclear what is believed to be a consequence ofthe rest of this License.8. If the distribution and/or use of the Program isrestricted in certain countries either by patentsor by copyrighted interfaces, the originalcopyright holder who places the Program underthis License may add an explicit geographicaldistribution limitation excluding those countries,so that distribution is permitted only in or amongcountries not thus excluded. In such case, thisLicense incorporates the limitation as if writtenin the body of this License.ENGLISH

144 OPEN SOURCE LICENSEGNU Lesser General Public LicenseVersion 2.1, February 1999Copyright (C) 1991, 1999 Free SoftwareFoundation, Inc. 59 Temple Place, Suite 330,Boston, MA 02111-1307 USA Everyone ispermitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies ofthis license document, but changing it is notallowed.[This is the first released version of the Lesser GPL.It also counts as the successor of the GNU LibraryPublic License, version 2, hence the versionnumber 2.1.]PreambleThe licenses for most software are designed totake away your freedom to share and change it. Bycontrast, the GNU General Public Licenses areintended to guarantee your freedom to share andchange free software–to make sure the software isfree for all its users. This license, the Lesser General Public License, applies to some specially designated softwarepackages–typically libraries–of the Free SoftwareFoundation and other authors who decide to use it.You can use it too, but we suggest you first thinkcarefully about whether this license or the ordinaryGeneral Public License is the better strategy to usein any particular case, based on the explanationsbelow. When we speak of free software, we are referringto freedom of use, not price. Our General PublicLicenses are designed to make sure that you havethe freedom to distribute copies of free software(and charge for this service if you wish); that youreceive source code or can get it if you want it; thatyou can change the software and use pieces of it innew free programs; and that you are informed thatyou can do these things. To protect your rights, we need to makerestrictions that forbid distributors to deny youthese rights or to ask you to surrender these rights. These restrictions translate to certainresponsibilities for you if you distribute copies ofthe library or if you modify it.For example, if you distribute copies of the library, whether gratis or for a fee, you must give therecipients all the rights that we gave you. You mustmake sure that they, too, receive or can get thesource code. If you link other code with the library, you must provide complete object files to therecipients, so that they can relink them with thelibrary after making changes to the library andrecompiling it. And you must show them theseterms so they know their rights. We protect your rights with a two-step method: (1)we copyright the library, and (2) we offer you thislicense, which gives you legal permission to copy, distribute and/or modify the library. To protect each distributor, we want to make it veryclear that there is no warranty for the free library. Also, if the library is modified by someone else andpassed on, the recipients should know that whatthey have is not the original version, so that theoriginal author’s reputation will not be affected byproblems that might be introduced by others. Finally, software patents pose a constant threat tothe existence of any free program. We wish tomake sure that a company cannot effectivelyrestrict the users of a free program by obtaining arestrictive license from a patent holder. Therefore,we insist that any patent license obtained for aversion of the library must be consistent with thefull freedom of use specified in this license. Most GNU software, including some libraries, iscovered by the ordinary GNU General PublicLicense. This license, the GNU Lesser GeneralPublic License, applies to certain designatedlibraries, and is quite different from the ordinaryGeneral Public License. We use this license forcertain libraries in order to permit linking thoselibraries into non-free programs. When a program is linked with a library, whetherstatically or using a shared library, the combinationof the two is legally speaking a combined work, aderivative of the original library. The ordinaryGeneral Public License therefore permits suchlinking only if the entire combination fits its criteriaof freedom. The Lesser General Public Licensepermits more lax criteria for linking other code withthe library.ENGLISH
OPEN SOURCE LICENSE 145We call this license the “Lesser”General PublicLicense because it does Less to protect the user’sfreedom than the ordinary General Public License. It also provides other free software developersLess of an advantage over competing non-freeprograms. These disadvantages are the reason weuse the ordinary General Public License for manylibraries. However, the Lesser license providesadvantages in certain special circumstances. For example, on rare occasions, there may be aspecial need to encourage the widest possible useof a certain library, so that it becomes a de-factostandard. To achieve this, non-free programs mustbe allowed to use the library. A more frequent caseis that a free library does the same job as widelyused non-free libraries. In this case, there is little togain by limiting the free library to free softwareonly, so we use the Lesser General Public License. In other cases, permission to use a particular libraryin non-free programs enables a greater number ofpeople to use a large body of free software. Forexample, permission to use the GNU C Library innon-free programs enables many more people touse the whole GNU operating system, as well asits variant, the GNU/Linux operating system.Although the Lesser General Public License is Lessprotective of the users’freedom, it does ensurethat the user of a program that is linked with theLibrary has the freedom and the wherewithal to runthat program using a modified version of theLibrary. The precise terms and conditions for copying, distribution and modification follow. Pay closeattention to the difference between a “work basedon the library”and a “work that uses the library”.The former contains code derived from the library, whereas the latter must be combined with thelibrary in order to run.TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COPYING,DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICATION0. This License Agreement applies to any softwarelibrary or other program which contains a noticeplaced by the copyright holder or otherauthorized party saying it may be distributedunder the terms of this Lesser General PublicLicense (also called “this License”). Eachlicensee is addressed as “you”.A“library”means a collection of softwarefunctions and/or data prepared so as to beconveniently linked with application programs(which use some of those functions and data) toform executables. The “Library”, below, refers to any suchsoftware library or work which has beendistributed under these terms. A “work basedon the Library”means either the Library or anyderivative work under copyright law: that is tosay, a work containing the Library or a portion ofit, either verbatim or with modifications and/ ortranslated straightforwardly into anotherlanguage. (Hereinafter, translation is includedwithout limitation in the term “modification”.)“Source code”for a work means the preferredform of the work for making modifications to it.For a library, complete source code means allthe source code for all modules it contains, plusany associated interface definition files, plus thescripts used to control compilation andinstallation of the library.Activities other than copying, distribution andmodification are not covered by this License;they are outside its scope. The act of running aprogram using the Library is not restricted, andoutput from such a program is covered only if itscontents constitute a work based on the Library(independent of the use of the Library in a toolfor writing it). Whether that is true depends onwhat the Library does and what the programthat uses the Library does.1. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies ofthe Library’s complete source code as youreceive it, in any medium, provided that youconspicuously and appropriately publish on eachcopy an appropriate copyright notice anddisclaimer of warranty; keep intact all thenotices that refer to this License and to theabsence of any warranty; and distribute a copyof this License along with the Library. You may charge a fee for the physical act oftransferring a copy, and you may at your optionoffer warranty protection in exchange for a fee.2. You may modify your copy or copies of theLibrary or any portion of it, thus forming a workENGLISH
146 OPEN SOURCE LICENSEbased on the Library, and copy and distributesuch modifications or work under the terms ofSection 1 above, provided that you also meet allof these conditions:a) The modified work must itself be a softwarelibrary.b) You must cause the files modified to carryprominent notices stating that you changedthe files and the date of any change.c) You must cause the whole of the work to belicensed at no charge to all third parties underthe terms of this License.d) If a facility in the modified Library refers to afunction or a table of data to be supplied by anapplication program that uses the facility, other than as an argument passed when thefacility is invoked, then you must make a goodfaith effort to ensure that, in the event anapplication does not supply such function ortable, the facility still operates, and performswhatever part of its purpose remainsmeaningful.(For example, a function in a library tocompute square roots has a purpose that isentirely well-defined independent of theapplication. Therefore, Subsection 2d requiresthat any application-supplied function or tableused by this function must be optional: if theapplication does not supply it, the square rootfunction must still compute square roots.)These requirements apply to the modifiedwork as a whole. If identifiable sections of thatwork are not derived from the Library, and canbe reasonably considered independent andseparate works in themselves, then thisLicense, and its terms, do not apply to thosesections when you distribute them asseparate works. But when you distribute thesame sections as part of a whole which is awork based on the Library, the distribution ofthe whole must be on the terms of thisLicense, whose permissions for otherlicensees extend to the entire whole, and thusto each and every part regardless of whowrote it.Thus, it is not the intent of this section toclaim rights or contest your rights to workwritten entirely by you; rather, the intent is toexercise the right to control the distribution ofderivative or collective works based on theLibrary. In addition, mere aggregation of another worknot based on the Library with the Library (or witha work based on the Library) on a volume of astorage or distribution medium does not bringthe other work under the scope of this License.3. You may opt to apply the terms of the ordinaryGNU General Public License instead of thisLicense to a given copy of the Library. To dothis, you must alter all the notices that refer tothis License, so that they refer to the ordinaryGNU General Public License, version 2, insteadof to this License. (If a newer version thanversion 2 of the ordinary GNU General PublicLicense has appeared, then you can specify thatversion instead if you wish.) Do not make anyother change in these notices.Once this change is made in a given copy, it isirreversible for that copy, so the ordinary GNUGeneral Public License applies to all subsequentcopies and derivative works made from thatcopy. This option is useful when you wish to copy partof the code of the Library into a program that isnot a library.4. You may copy and distribute the Library (or aportion or derivative of it, under Section 2) inobject code or executable form under the termsof Sections 1 and 2 above provided that youaccompany it with the complete correspondingmachinereadable source code, which must bedistributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2above on a medium customarily used forsoftware interchange. If distribution of object code is made by offeringaccess to copy from a designated place, thenoffering equivalent access to copy the sourcecode from the same place satisfies therequirement to distribute the source code, eventhough third parties are not compelled to copythe source along with the object code.5. A program that contains no derivative of anyportion of the Library, but is designed to workwith the Library by being compiled or linked withit, is called a “work that uses the Library”. Sucha work, in isolation, is not a derivative work ofthe Library, and therefore falls outside the scopeof this License.ENGLISH
OPEN SOURCE LICENSE 147However, linking a “work that uses the Library”with the Library creates an executable that is aderivative of the Library (because it containsportions of the Library), rather than a “work thatuses the library”. The executable is thereforecovered by this License. Section 6 states termsfor distribution of such executables. When a “work that uses the Library”usesmaterial from a header file that is part of theLibrary, the object code for the work may be aderivative work of the Library even though thesource code is not. Whether this is true isespecially significant if the work can be linkedwithout the Library, or if the work is itself alibrary. The threshold for this to be true is notprecisely defined by law.If such an object file uses only numericalparameters, data structure layouts andaccessors, and small macros and small inlinefunctions (ten lines or less in length), then theuse of the object file is unrestricted, regardlessof whether it is legally a derivative work.(Executables containing this object code plusportions of the Library will still fall under Section6.)Otherwise, if the work is a derivative of theLibrary, you may distribute the object code forthe work under the terms of Section 6. Anyexecutables containing that work also fall underSection 6, whether or not they are linked directlywith the Library itself.6. As an exception to the Sections above, you mayalso combine or link a “work that uses theLibrary”with the Library to produce a workcontaining portions of the Library, and distributethat work under terms of your choice, providedthat the terms permit modification of the workfor the customer’s own use and reverseengineering for debugging such modifications. You must give prominent notice with each copyof the work that the Library is used in it and thatthe Library and its use are covered by thisLicense. You must supply a copy of this License. If the work during execution displays copyrightnotices, you must include the copyright noticefor the Library among them, as well as areference directing the user to the copy of thisLicense. Also, you must do one of these things:a) Accompany the work with the completecorresponding machine-readable source codefor the Library including whatever changeswere used in the work (which must bedistributed under Sections 1 and 2 above);and, if the work is an executable linked withthe Library, with the complete machine-readable “work that uses the Library”,asobject code and/or source code, so that theuser can modify the Library and then relink toproduce a modified executable containing themodified Library. (It is understood that theuser who changes the contents of definitionsfiles in the Library will not necessarily be ableto recompile the application to use themodified definitions.)b) Use a suitable shared library mechanism forlinking with the Library. A suitable mechanismis one that (1) uses at run time a copy of thelibrary already present on the user’s computersystem, rather than copying library functionsinto the executable, and (2) will operateproperly with a modified version of the library,if the user installs one, as long as the modifiedversion is interfacecompatible with theversion that the work was made with.c) Accompany the work with a written offer, valid for at least three years, to give the sameuser the materials specified in Subsection 6a,above, for a charge no more than the cost ofperforming this distribution.d) If distribution of the work is made by offeringaccess to copy from a designated place, offerequivalent access to copy the above specifiedmaterials from the same place.e) Verify that the user has already received acopy of these materials or that you havealready sent this user a copy. For an executable, the required form of the“work that uses the Library”must include anydata and utility programs needed for reproducingthe executable from it. However, as a specialexception, the materials to be distributed neednot include anything that is normally distributed(in either source or binary form) with the majorcomponents (compiler, kernel, and so on) of theoperating system on which the executable runs, unless that component itself accompanies theexecutable. It may happen that this requirement contradictsthe license restrictions of other proprietaryENGLISH
148 OPEN SOURCE LICENSElibraries that do not normally accompany theoperating system. Such a contradiction meansyou cannot use both them and the Librarytogether in an executable that you distribute.7. You may place library facilities that are a workbased on the Library side-by-side in a singlelibrary together with other library facilities notcovered by this License, and distribute such acombined library, provided that the separatedistribution of the work based on the Library andof the other library facilities is otherwisepermitted, and provided that you do these twothings:a) Accompany the combined library with a copyof the same work based on the Library, uncombined with any other library facilities. This must be distributed under the terms ofthe Sections above.b) Give prominent notice with the combinedlibrary of the fact that part of it is a work basedon the Library, and explaining where to findthe accompanying uncombined form of thesame work.8. You may not copy, modify, sublicense, link with,or distribute the Library except as expresslyprovided under this License. Any attemptotherwise to copy, modify, sublicense, link with,or distribute the Library is void, and willautomatically terminate your rights under thisLicense. However, parties who have receivedcopies, or rights, from you under this Licensewill not have their licenses terminated so long assuch parties remain in full compliance.9. You are not required to accept this License, since you have not signed it. However, nothingelse grants you permission to modify ordistribute the Library or its derivative works. These actions are prohibited by law if you do notaccept this License. Therefore, by modifying ordistributing the Library (or any work based onthe Library), you indicate your acceptance of thisLicense to do so, and all its terms and conditionsfor copying, distributing or modifying the Libraryor works based on it.10.Each time you redistribute the Library (or anywork based on the Library), the recipientautomatically receives a license from the originallicensor to copy, distribute, link with or modifythe Library subject to these terms andconditions. You may not impose any furtherrestrictions on the recipients’exercise of therights granted herein. You are not responsiblefor enforcing compliance by third parties withthis License.11.If, as a consequence of a court judgment orallegation of patent infringement or for any otherreason (not limited to patent issues), conditionsare imposed on you (whether by court order, agreement or otherwise) that contradict theconditions of this License, they do not excuseyou from the conditions of this License. If youcannot distribute so as to satisfy simultaneouslyyour obligations under this License and anyother pertinent obligations, then as aconsequence you may not distribute the Libraryat all. For example, if a patent license would notpermit royalty-free redistribution of the Libraryby all those who receive copies directly orindirectly through you, then the only way youcould satisfy both it and this License would be torefrain entirely from distribution of the Library. If any portion of this section is held invalid orunenforceable under any particularcircumstance, the balance of the section isintended to apply, and the section as a whole isintended to apply in other circumstances. It is not the purpose of this section to induce youto infringe any patents or other property rightclaims or to contest validity of any such claims;this section has the sole purpose of protectingthe integrity of the free software distributionsystem which is implemented by public licensepractices. The license affects thus theFreeType font engine, the test programs, documentation and makefiles, at the very least. This license was inspired by the BSD, Artistic, andIJG (Independent JPEG Group) licenses, which allencourage inclusion and use of free software incommercial and freeware products alike. As aconsequence, its main points are that:- We don’t promise that this software works. However, we will be interested in any kind ofbug reports. (‘as is’distribution)- You can use this software for whatever youwant, in parts or full form, without having topay us. (‘royalty-free’usage)- You may not pretend that you wrote thissoftware. If you use it, or only parts of it, in aprogram, you must acknowledge somewherein your documentation that you have used theFreeType code. (‘credits’)We specifically permit and encourage the inclusionof this software, with or without modifications, incommercial products. We disclaim all warrantiescovering The FreeType Project and assume noliability related to The FreeType Project. Finally, many people asked us for a preferred formfor a credit/disclaimer to use in compliance withthis license. Your choice has provided you with a productdeveloped for professional use. Your purchase has alsocontributed to reducing the burden on the environment andalso to the further development of environmentallyadapted electronics products.
Regulatory Information cont. 02Why do we have environmentally labelled computers? In many countries, environmental labelling has become anestablished method for encouraging the adaptation ofgoods and services to the environment. With the growingmanufacture and usage of electronic equipmentthroughout the world, there is a recognized concern for thematerials and substances used by electronic productswith regards to their eventual recycling and disposal. Byproper selection of these materials and substances, theimpact on the environment can be minimized. There are also other characteristics of a computer, such asenergy consumption levels, that are important from theviewpoints of both the work (internal) and natural (external)environments. Electronic equipment in offices is often leftrunning continuously, resulting in unnecessaryconsumption of large amounts of energy and additionalpower generation. From the standpoint of carbon dioxideemissions alone, it is vital to save energy. What does labelling involve? The product meets the requirements for the TCO’99scheme which provides for international and environmentallabelling of personal computers and/or displays. The labelling scheme was developed as a joint effort by the TCO (The Swedish Confederation of ProfessionalEmployees), Svenska Naturskyddsforeningen (The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation) andStatens Energimyndighet (The Swedish NationalEnergy Administration).Approval requirements cover a wide range of issues:ecology, ergonomics, emission of electrical and magneticalfields, energy consumption and electrical safety. Ecological criteria impose restrictions on the presence anduse of heavy metals, brominated and chlorinated flameretardants, and other substances. The product must beprepared for recycling and the manufacturing site(s) shallbe certified according to ISO14001 or EMAS registered.Energy requirements include a demand that the systemunit and/or display, after a certain period of inactivity, shall reduce its power consumption to a lower level in oneor more stages. The length of time to reactivate the systemunit shall be reasonable for the user.Labelled products must meet strict environmentaldemands, for example, in respect of the reduction ofelectrical and magnetical fields as well as work load andvisual ergonomics.Below you will find a brief summary of the ecologicalrequirements met by this product. The completeecological criteria document can be found at TCODevelopment’s website http://www.tcodevelopment.comor may be ordered from:TCO DevelopmentSE-114 94 STOCKHOLM, SwedenFax: +46 8 782 92 07Email : development@tco.seInformation regarding TCO’99 approved and labelledproducts may also be obtained athttp://www.tcodevelopment.comEcological requirementsFlame retardantsFlame retardants may be present in printed wiring boardlaminates, cables, and housings. Their purpose is toprevent, or at least to delay the spread of fire. Up to 30%by weight of the plastic in a computer casing can consist offlame retardant substances. Many flame retardantscontain bromine or chlorine, and these flame retardantsare chemically related to PCBs (polychlorinatedbiphenyls). Both the flame retardants containing bromineor chlorine and the PCBs are suspected of giving rise tohealth effects, including reproductive damage in fish-eating birds and mammals, due to the bio-accumulative*processes when not disposed of in accordance with strictstandards for disposal.TCO’99 requires that plastic components weighing morethan 25 grams shall not contain flame retardants withorganically bound bromine or chlorine. Flame retardantsare allowed in the printed wiring board laminates due tothe lack of commercially available alternatives.Cadmium**Cadmium is present in rechargeable batteries and in thecolour-generating layers of certain computer displays.TCO’99 requires that batteries, the colour-generatinglayers of display screens, and the electrical or electronicscomponents shall not contain any cadmium.Mercury**Mercury is sometimes found in batteries, relays andswitches. TCO’99 requires that batteries shall not containany mercury. It also demands that mercury is not presentin any of the electrical or electronics componentsassociated with the labelled unit. There is however one
Regulatory Information cont. 03exception. Mercury is, for the time being, permitted in theback light system of flat panel monitors as there today isno commercially available alternative. TCO aims onremoving this exception when a mercury free alternative isavailable.Lead**Lead can be found in picture tubes, display screens, solders and capacitors. TCO’99 permits the use of leaddue to the lack of commercially available alternatives, butin future requirements TCO Development aims atrestricting the use of lead._____________________________________________* Bio-accumulative is defined as substances which accumulate in living organisms.**Lead, Cadmium and Mercury are heavy metals which are bio-accumulative.TCO’03(TCO’03 applied model only)Congratulations! The display you have just purchased carries the TCO’03Displays label. This means that your display is designed, manufacturedand tested according to some of the strictest quality andenvironmental requirements in the world. This makes for ahigh performance product, designed with the user in focusthat also minimizes the impact on our natural environment. Some of the features of the TCO’03 Display requirements:Ergonomics• Good visual ergonomics and image quality in order toimprove the working environment for the user and toreduce sight and strain problems. Importantparameters are luminance, contrast, resolution, reflectance, colour rendition and image stability.Energy• Energy-saving mode after a certain time – beneficialboth for the user and the environment• Electrical safetyEmissions• Electromagnetic fields• Noise emissionsEcology• The product must be prepared for recycling and themanufacturer must have a certified environmentalmanagement system such as EMAS or ISO 14 001• Restrictions onchlorinated and brominated flame retardants andpolymersheavy metals such as cadmium, mercury and lead. The requirements included in this label have beendeveloped by TCO Development in co-operation withscientists, experts, users as well as manufacturers all overthe world. Since the end of the 1980s TCO has beeninvolved in influencing the development of IT equipment ina more user-friendly direction. Our labelling system startedwith displays in 1992 and is now requested by users andIT-manufacturers all over the world. For more information, please visitwww.tcodevelopment.comInformation for Environmental PreservationLGE. announced the 'LG Declaration for a CleanerEnvironment' in 1994, and this ideal has served as aguiding managerial principle ever since.
