For products intended tooperate from battery power, or othersources, refer to the operating instructions.12.Line-Cord PolarizationThis product is equipped with a polarized alternating-current line plug(a plug having one blade wider thanthe other). This plug will fit into thepower outlet only one way. This is asafety feature. If you are unable toinsert the plug fully into the outlet, tryreversing the plug. If the plug shouldstill fail to fit, contact your electricianto replace your obsolete outlet. SAFETY TIPS514.Outdoor Antenna Grounding If an outside antenna or cable systemis connected to the product, be surethe antenna or cable system isgrounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges andbuilt-up static charges. Article 810 ofthe National Electrical Code (U.S.A),ANSI/NFPA 70 provides informationwith regard to proper grounding of themast and supporting structure,grounding of the lead-in wire to anantenna discharge unit, size ofgrounding conductors, location ofantenna-discharge unit, connection togrounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. (See figure 1 on the right.)15.Lightning For added protection for this product(receiver) during a lightning storm, orwhen it is left unattended and unusedfor long periods of time, unplug it fromthe wall outlet and disconnect theantenna or cable system. This willprevent damage to the product due tolightning and power-line surges.16.Power Lines An outside antenna system should notbe located in the vicinity of overheadpower lines or other electric light orpower circuits, or where it can fall intosuch power lines or circuits. Wheninstalling an outside antenna system,extreme care should be taken to keepfrom touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might befatal.17.Overloading Do not overload wall outlets andextension cords as this can result in arisk of fire or electric shock.18.Object and Liquid EntryNever push objects of any kind intothis product through openings as theymay touch dangerous voltage pointsor short-out parts that could result in afire or electric shock. ConnectionsVCR to TV &Antenna to VCRThe guidance given on the next two pages is the most common forms of connection. However pleasecheck with your manufacturers instruction books for specific information. Make sure all connectionsare made with both your VCR and additional appliance unplugged from the mains to avoid damaging your equipment. Connecting a VCR using a Audio/Video cable is one of the best ways toachieve optimum sound and picture quality from video-tape playback. Display windowInformation appears in the display window depending on the VCR function being used.Display window shows which VCR function you are using. Preparations• Turn on the power of both the VCR and TV.• Set the TV to the VCR Output Channel (CH 3 or 4) or video input.• If a direct VIDEO/AUDIO connection is made between the VCR and the TV, set the TV’s source selector to VIDEO.Insert the video cassetteinto your VCR. TroubleshootingCheck list29If the unit does not seem to operate properly, read the instructions again, then check the table below.Video Head CleaningWhenever a video cassette is inserted into or ejected from your VCR the video head is automatically cleaned.This should mean that additional head cleaning should not be necessary. However dirt accumulating on the headafter a long period of time can cause the playback picture to become blurred or broken up. High quality video cassette tapes will not normally deposit dirt onto the video head, but old or damaged tapes might.Cassette cannot be inserted.• Load cassette in direction indicated by arrow on cassette.• A cassette is already in the VCR.• Check if display window is lit. If not, make sure power cord isplugged in.• If the  indicator flashes, press POWER again.No picture appears on TV screen.• Set the television to the same channel selected on the RFChannel Select Switch. (CH3 or CH4).The playback picture is noisy.• Make sure the TV is set to the video channel or videoinput.• Adjust the tracking manually when the tape quality is poor.• Although the unit cleans the video heads automatically, dirtmay be accumulated after a long period of use. Under this condition,connect the power cord tothe AC line, turn on theVCR and allow at least twohours for the VCR to dryout.
