Installing the SIM card and thehandset batteryMake sure the power is off before you remove thebattery.1. Remove the battery.Slide the battery release latch upwards and lift outthe top of the battery.2. Install the SIM cardInsert the SIM card into the holder. Slide the SIMcard into the SIM card holder. Make sure that theSIM card is inserted properly and that the goldcontact area on the card is facing downwards. Toremove the SIM card, press down lightly and pull itin the reverse direction.3. Install the battery.Insert the bottom of the battery first into thebottom edge of the battery compartment. Pushdown the top of the battery until it snaps intospace.Charging the batteryTo connect the mains adapter to the phone, youmust have installed the battery.1. With the arrow facing you as shown in the diagrampush the plug on the battery adapter into thesocket on the bottom of the phone until it clicksinto place.2. Connect the other end of the mains adapter to themains socket. Only use the charger included in thebox.CAUTION! The metal contact of the SIM card can be easily damagedby scratches. Pay special attention to the SIM card whilehandling. Turning your phone on and offTurning your phone ON1. Install a battery to the handset and connect thephone to an external power source such as thetravel adapter, cigarette lighter adapter or hands-free car kit. Or install a charged battery pack to thehandset.2. Press and hold  for a few seconds until the LCDscreen is turned on.3. Depending on the status of the PIN code requestsetting you may need to enter your PIN code.Turning your phone OFF1. Press and hold  for a few seconds until the LCDscreen is turned off.Access codesYou can use the access codes described in thissection to avoid unauthorised use of your phone. Theaccess codes (except PUK and PUK2 codes) can bechanged by using the Change codes feature (Menu 3.6.6). See page 52.PIN code (4 to 8 digits)The PIN (Personal Identification Number) codeprotects your SIM card against unauthorised use. ThePIN code is usually supplied with the SIM card. Whenthe PIN code request is set to Enable, your phonewill request the PIN code every time the phone isswitched on. PIN2 code (4 to 8 digits)The PIN2 code, supplied with some SIM cards, isrequired to access functions such as Advice of CallCharge and Fixed dial number. These functions areonly available if supported by your SIM card. Checkwith your network operator for further information.PUK code (4 to 8 digits)The PUK (PIN Unblocking Key) code is required tounlock a PIN blocked phone. The PUK code may besupplied with the SIM card. If not, contact yournetwork operator for the code. If you lose the code,please contact your network operator.PUK2 code (4 to 8 digits)The PUK2 code, supplied with some SIM cards, isrequired to change a blocked PIN2 code. If you losethe code, please contact your network operator.Security code (4 to 8 digits)The security code protects the unauthorised use ofyour phone. The default security code is set to‘0000’ and the security code is required to delete allphone entries and to activate the Reset settingsmenu. Also, the security code is required to enable ordisable the phone lock function to preventunauthorised use of the phone. The security codedefault setting can be modified from the Securitysettings menu.Barring passwordThe barring password is required when you use theCall barring (Menu 3.4.3) function. Making and answering callsMaking a call1. Make sure your phone is switched on.2. Enter a phone number, including the area code.vPress and hold the clear key ( ) to erase theentire number.3. Adjusting the volumeIf you want to adjust the earpiece volume during acall, use the side keys ( ). Press the up side key toincrease and down side key to decrease the volume.Answering a callWhen you receive a call, the phone rings and theflashing phone icon appears on the screen. If thecaller can be identified, the caller’s phone number (or name/photo if saved in the phonebook) isdisplayed.1. To answer an incoming call, open the phone. vTo reject an incoming call, press and hold one ofthe side keys on the left side of the phone withoutopening the phone.vYou can answer a call while using the address bookor other menu features.2. Signal strengthYou can check the strength of your signal by thesignal indicator ( ) on the LCD screen of yourphone. Signal strength can vary, particularly insidebuildings. Moving near to a window may improvereception.Entering textYou can enter alphanumeric characters by using thephone’s keypad. For example, storing names in thephonebook, writing a message, creating a personalgreeting.The following text input methods are available in thephone.T9 modeThis mode lets you enter words with only onekeystroke per letter. Each key on the keypad hasmore than one letter. The T9 mode automaticallycompares your keystrokes with an internal dictionaryto determine the correct word, thus requiring farfewer keystrokes than the traditional ABC mode. Thisis sometimes known as predictive text.ABC modeThis mode lets you enter letters by pressing the keylabelled with the required letter once, twice, three orfour times until the letter is displayed.123 mode (Number mode)Type numbers using one keystroke per number. vUsing the T9 modeThe T9 predictive text input mode lets you enterwords easily with a minimum number of key presses.As you press each key, the phone begins to displaythe characters that it thinks you are typing based onthe built-in dictionary. You can also add new words inthe dictionary. As new words are added, the wordchanges to reflect the most likely candidate from thedictionary.1. When you are in the T9 predictive text inputmode, start entering a word by pressing keys to  . Press one key per letter.- The word changes as letters are typed. Ignorewhat’s on the screen until the word is typedcompletely.- If the word is still incorrect after typingcompletely, press the down navigation key onceor more to cycle through the other word options.Example:Press to type GoodPress [Down navigationkey] to type Home- If the desired word is missing from the wordchoice list, add it using the ABC mode.- You can select the language of the T9 mode.Press the left soft key [Option], then select T9languages. vUsing the 123 (Number) modeThe 123 mode enables you to enter numbers in atext message (a telephone number, for example).Press the keys corresponding to the required digitsbefore manually switching back to the appropriatetext entry mode.Address bookYou can store phone numbers and theircorresponding names in the memory of your SIMcard.In addition, you can store up to 500 numbers andnames in the phone memory.The SIM card and phone are both used in the sameway in the Address book menu.In-call menuYour phone provides a number of control functionsthat you can use during a call. To access thesefunctions during a call, press the left soft key[Options].During a callThe menu displayed on the handset screen during acall is different to the default main menu displayedwhen in standby mode, and the options are describedbelow.Making a second callYou can get a number you wish to dial from thephonebook to make a second call. Press the right softkey then select Search. Answering an incoming callTo answer an incoming call when the handset isringing, simply press the  key. The handset is alsoable to warn you of an incoming call while you arealready on a call. A tone sounds in the earpiece, andthe display will show that a second call is waiting.This feature, known as Call waiting, is only available ifyour network supports it. For details of how toactivate and deactivate it see Call waiting(Menu 3.3.4) on page 45.If Call waiting is activated, you can put the first callon hold and answer the second, by pressing  orby selecting the left soft key[Answer].Rejecting an incoming callYou can reject an incoming call without answering bysimply pressing the  key. During a call, you canreject an incoming call by pressing the right soft key[End] key or by pressing the  (When use ear jack,you can reject by pressing  )Muting the microphoneYou can mute the microphone during a call bypressing the [Menu] key then selecting Mute on. Thehandset can be unmuted by selecting Mute off. Whenthe handset is muted, the caller cannot hear you, butyou can still hear them.Switching DTMF tones on during a callTo turn DTMF tones on during a call, press the leftsoft key, and then select DTMF on. DTMF tones canbe turned off the same way. DTMF tones allow yourphone to make use of an automated switchboard.General functions25
Multiparty or conference callsThe multiparty or conference service provides youwith the ability to have a simultaneous conversationwith more than one caller, if your network operatorsupports this feature. A multiparty call can only beset up when you have one active call and one call onhold, both calls having been answered. Once amultiparty call is set up, calls can be added,disconnected or separated (that is, removed from themultiparty call but still connected to you) by theperson who set up the multiparty call. These optionsare all available from the In-Call menu. The maximumcallers in a multiparty call are five. Once started, youare in control of the multiparty call, and only you canadd callers to the multiparty call.Making a second callYou can make a second call while currently on a call.Enter the second number and press the  key.When the second call is connected, the first call isautomatically placed on hold. You can swap betweencalls by pressing the left soft key then selectingSwap.Setting up a conference callPlace one call on hold and while the active call is on,press the left soft key and then select theConference/Join all.Putting a conference call on holdPress the left soft key, then select theConference/Hold all.Activate the conference call on holdPress the left soft key, then select theConference/Join all.Adding calls to the conference callTo add a call to an existing conference call, press theleft soft key, then select the Conference/Join all.Displaying callers in a conference callTo scroll through the numbers of the callers whomake up a conference call on the handset screen, usethe up/down navigation keys.General functionsGeneral functions26
Taking a private call during a conferencecallTo have a private call with one caller from aconference call, display the number of the caller youwish to talk to on the screen, then press the left softkey. Select the Conference/Private to put all theother callers on hold.Ending a conference callThe currently displayed caller from a conference callcan be disconnected by pressing the  key. To enda conference call, press the left soft key, then selectthe Conference/End multiparty. After pressing theleft soft key, selecting Conference/End all will end allthe active and on-hold calls.General functions27

Received calls Menu 1.4This option lets you view the last 10 incoming calls.After selecting a phone number, you can make a callto the number by pressing the send key. Call costs Menu 1.6This network service allows you to check the last callcost and the total call cost. Backlight time (Menu 3.2.3)Use this to select whether or not the phone uses thebacklight. English will be set if the languageon the SIM card is not supported by the phone.Connectivity Menu 3.4Bluetooth (Menu 3.4.1) Bluetooth enables compatible mobile devices,peripherals and computers that are in close proximityto communicate directly with each other withoutwires. Set BluetoothYou can activate or cancel the Bluetooth function.Paired devices You can view all devices which your KE260 is alreadypaired to.If you have entered Paired devices, you will see thefollowing options in both those menus.vAdd new: Allows you to search for new Bluetoothdevices and add them to your phone's list ofpaired devices. When you select Add new yourhandset will start to search for Bluetooth deviceswithin range. Once the device you wish to pairappears on the list press the right soft key [Stop].Scroll to the desired device and press the left soft key[Pair]. You will then be asked to enter a passcode. The passcode can be any code you wish to use (the same passcode must be used by both devices) oris one that is pre-determined by the manufacturer ofthe device you are trying to pair with. Please check the User Manual of the device you areinitiating the pair with to see if it already has apredetermined passcode in place.NotevIf you use LG PC Sync via Bluetooth, you canexchange data only within the phonebook.vWhen you receive data from anotherBluetooth device, the phone requestsconfirmation. Network selection (Menu 3.4.3)You can select a network which will be registeredeither automatically or manually. Usually, the networkselection is set to Automatic.vAutomatic: If you select Automatic mode, thephone will automatically search for and select anetwork for you. Once you have selected“Automatic”, the phone will be set to “Automatic”even though the power is off and on.vManual: The phone will find the list of availablenetworks and show you them. Then you can selectthe network which you want to use if this networkhas a roaming agreement with your home networkoperator. The phone let you select anothernetwork if the phone fails to access the selectednetwork.vPreferred: You can set a list of preferrednetworks and the phone attempts to register withfirst, before attempting to register to any othernetworks. This list is set from the phone’spredefined list of known networks.GPRS attach (Menu 3.4.4) You can set GPRS service depending on varioussituations.Switch on If you select this menu, the phone is automaticallyregistered to a GPRS network when you switch thephone on. Starting a WAP or PC dial-up applicationcreated the connection between phone and networkand data transfer is possible. Calling  Menu 3.5To change the settings for call diverting.Call divert (Menu 3.5.1)When this network service is activated, you can directyour incoming calls to another number, for example,to your voice mailbox number. Send my number (Menu 3.5.3)This network service lets you decide whether yourphone number is displayed (On) or hidden (Off) fromthe person you are calling. Select Set by network toreset the phone to the setting that you have agreedupon with your service provider.Call waiting (Menu 3.5.4)(Network Service)The network will notify you of a new incoming callwhile you have a call in progress. Security  Menu 3.6Various passwords are used to protect certainfeatures of your phone. Refer to page 23 for thevarious passwords.PIN code request (Menu 3.6.1)When the PIN code request feature is enabled, youmust enter your PIN each time you switch the phoneon. Consequently, any person who does not haveyour PIN cannot use your phone without yourapproval.The following options are available:vEnable: You must enter the PIN each time thephone is switched on.vDisable: The phone connects directly to thenetwork when you switch it on.Handset lock (Menu 3.6.2)When the Handset lock feature is enabled, thephone is locked and you must enter the phonepassword each time the phone is switched on. Thepassword is factory set to 0000. To change thephone password, refer to the Change codes -Security code menu option (Menu 3.6.6). Once thecorrect password has been entered, you can use thephone until you switch it off.Auto key lock time (Menu 3.6.3)If you set this menu, the keypad is lockedautomatically depending the time you set.Call barring (Menu 3.6.4)Call barring lets you restrict the making and receivingof calls with your phone.
