LIMITED WARRANTY STATEMENT  1. WHAT THIS WARRANTY COVERS: LG offers you a limited warranty that the enclosed subscriber unit and its enclosed accessories will be free from defects in material and workmanship, according to the following terms and conditions: (1) The limited warranty for the product extends for ONE (1) year beginning on the data of purchase of the product. (2) The limited warranty extends on to the original purchaser of the product and is not assignable or transferable to any subsequent purchaser/end user. (3) This warranty is good only to the original purchaser of the product during the warranty period as long as it is in the U.S., including Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. Territories and Canada. (4) The external housing and cosmetic parts shall not be covered under these limited warranty terms. 14How to Use Touch KeysHow to Use Touch KeysCautions for Touch Keys1. Make sure your hands are clean and dry.- Remove all moisture from the surface ofyour hands or the touch keys in a humidenvironment.2. You do not need to press hard on thetouch keys to make them work normally.Do not subject the product to severeimpact, as this may damage the touch keysensors.3. Use the tip of your finger to press exactlyon the touch key you want, being carefulnot to touch the keys for other functions.4. When both the home screen and touchkey lights are off, pressing a touch key willnot turn on the home screen light. PressEand the home screen light will turn backon(touch keys do not work when thetouch key lights are off).5. If the slide is closed and the TouchProtection function is on, during calls theTouch key Lock function is automaticallyenabled. How to Use Touch Keys156. Touch keys may not work normally if amobile phone case or plastic cover iscovering them. Also, touch keys may notwork normally if you are wearing gloves.7.  Keep metal and other conductive materialsaway from the surface of the touch keys, ascontact with them may result in an error.Touch Key Status WhenUsing Mobile PhoneWhen the slide is closed, to preventindiscreet action of the touch keys whilstusing the phone or during calls, the TouchProtection function is automatically enabled.(In this case, the touch keys will not workeven if they are pressed)1. When slide is closed- When the slide is closed, the TouchProtection function is automaticallyenabled. (Opening the slide willautomatically disable it.)- To disable Touch protection when the slideis closed, press OK key on displayingUnlock key. And then, press OK key again. 2. During calls- During calls, regardless of slide status, theTouch Protection function is automaticallyenabled. - To disable the Touch Protection, press OKkey twice. - After disabling the Touch key Lock, if there is no key action for a certainduration (User defined), the TouchProtection function is enabled again.Note]For user convenience, the touch keyimage with the functions of eachtouch key is shown on the homescreen when purchasing products.

Installing the USIM card.Your USIM card contains your phone number,service details and contacts and must beinserted into your handset. If your USIM cardis removed then your handset becomesunusable (except for emergency calls) until avalid one is inserted. Always disconnect thecharger and other accessories from yourhandset before inserting and removing yourUSIM card. Slide the USIM card into theUSIM card holder. Make sure that the USIMcard is properly inserted and the goldcontact area on the card is facing downwards.To   r emove the USIM card, press down lightlyand pull it in the reverse direction.To   insert the USIM card      To remove the USIM card2. Installing the battery.Slide the battery upwards until it snaps backinto place.Note]The metal contact of the USIM card caneasily be damaged by scratches. Payspecial attention to the USIM card whilehandling. Follow the instructionssupplied with the USIM card.
To   remove the battery.Turn the power off. (If the power is left on,there is a chance you could lose the storedtelephone numbers and messages.)Press and hold down the battery releasebutton and slide the battery down. Charging the BatteryBefore connecting the travel adapter to thephone you must first install the battery.1. With the arrow facing you as shown in thediagram push the plug on the batteryadapter into the socket on the left side ofthe phone until it clicks into place.2. Connect the other end of the traveladapter to the mains socket. 3. The moving bars on the battery icon willstop after charging is complete.4. Turn the phone off. Inserting or removingthe microSD when the phone is on maydamage the files stored in the memorycard.2. Lift the plastic cover which protects themicroSD slot.WARNING! • Unplug the power cord and charger duringlightning storms to avoid electric shock orfire.• Make sure that no sharp-edged items such asanimal teeth or nails, come into contact withthe battery. This may cause a fire.<MicroSD memory card>
3. Insert the memory card into the slot. The gold contacts must be kept on theback of the microSD. Don’t push themicroSD too much. If it doesn't go intothe slot easily, you may be trying to insertit in the wrong way or there could be aforeign object in the slot.4. Once inserted, push the memory card untilyou hear a Click, meaning that themicroSD has been correctly engaged.5. Close the plastic slot protection.6. To remove the memory card, turn thephone off, open the slot protection andpush the microSD to unlock it. Carefullyextract the memory card.Attention:]Avoid using the Flash Memory Card whenthe battery is low.]When writing to the card, wait for theoperation to complete before removing the card.]The card is designed to fit easily into thesystem one way only.]Do not bend the card or force it into the slot.]Do not insert any memory cards otherthan those made by microSD.]If the microSD has been formatted usingFAT32, format the microSD using FAT16again.For more information on the microSD, pleaserefer to the memory card instruction manual. Memory card formattingBefore you start to use the memory card youhave to format it. Press andhold Euntil the power comes on. Enter theUSIM PIN code that was supplied with yourUSIM card if the PIN code request is set toOn. (Note: Please refer to page 79) After a few seconds you will be registered onthe network.Turning your handset off Press and hold Euntil the power goes off.There may be a few seconds delay while thehandset powers down.Do not turn the handset on again during thistime.Access codesYou can use the access codes described inthis section to avoid unauthorised use of yourphone. The access codes (except the PUKand PUK2 codes) can be changed by usingthe Change codes feature [Menu #.2.6.3].PIN code (4 to 8 digits)The PIN (Personal Identification Number)code protects your USIM card againstunauthorised use. The PIN code is usuallysupplied with the USIM card. When the PINcode request is set to On, your phone willrequest the PIN code every time it isswitched on. When the PIN code request isset to Off, your phone connects to thenetwork directly without the PIN code.PIN2 code (4 to 8 digits)The PIN2 code, supplied with some USIMcards, is required to access functions such asFixed dial number. These functions are onlyavailable if supported by your USIM card.
PUK code (8 digits)The PUK (PIN Unblocking Key) code isrequired to unblock a blocked PIN code. ThePUK code may be supplied with the USIMcard. If not, contact your network operator’scustomer service department for the code. Ifyou lose the code, contact your networkoperator’s customer service department.PUK2 code (8 digits)The PUK2 code, supplied with some USIMcards, is required to unblock a blocked PIN2code. If you lose the code, contact yournetwork operator’s customer servicedepartment.Security code (4 digits)The security code prevents unauthorised useof your phone. The default security code isset to ‘0000’ and the security code isrequired to delete all phone entries and torestore the handset to the factory settings.Display informationNo USIM idle screenThis is the initial screen of the phone thatappears when there is no USIM card installedin the phone, or the installed USIM card isinvalid. In this screen, users can only makeemergency calls, and turn the phone off. Toturn the phone off, press and hold down Efor a few seconds.Screen structureIf there is no USIM card installed, ananimation telling you to insert a USIM cardappears. If the USIM card inserted into thephone is invalid, an animation telling you thatthe USIM card is locked appears.Emergency call functionThe right soft key is represented by“Emergency” on the screen. Getting Started22Getting StartedIdle screenThe idle screen appears when you haveinstalled a proper USIM card and turned thephone on.Screen structureIdle screen consists of the operator's name,indicators, date and time on a backgroundimage. You can change the wallpaper in theDisplay settings menu.Numbering screenThe numbering screen appears when anumber key is pressed in the idle screen.Screen structureThe numbering screen consists of statusindicators, dialled number and soft menu.Status indicators are the same as those ofthe idle screen. You can change the size andcolour of the dialling font in the Displaysettings menu. You can make a call whiledialling a phone number by pressing S.Soft keyYou can use the soft keys for severalfunctions while dialling a number. Using theleft soft key, you can make a video call, senda message to the number, save the number toContacts, search contacts.Handset lock screenWhen the Handset lock function is selected,you can only make an emergency call, releasethe lock, and turn off the phone in thisscreen. As always, you can turn the phone offby pressing and holding Efor a few seconds.Screen structureThe screen structure of the Handset lockscreen is the same as that of the idle screen.Emergency call functionYou can make an emergency call using theright soft key. As with the No USIM idlescreen, only emergency numbers can bedialled.
Unlock functionIf you press key except right soft key andnumber key, a popup screen appears askingyou to input the Security code to unlock thephone. The Security code is configured in theChange codes (#. Settings >2. Phonesettings >6. Security >3. Change codes).If you key in an incorrect Security Code, thephone will remain in Handset lock status. Ifyou key in the correct Security code, thephone will be unlocked, and the idle screenwill be displayed. If you have turned thephone off in the Handset lock status, youwill find the phone remains in Handset lockstatus when you turn it on. Barring passwordThis service obstructs calling service in someconditions. This condition can be editedusing the Call barring feature (#. Settings>4. Call settings >2. Call barring). Thebarring password is required when you usethe call barring function. The password isobtained from your network operator'scustomer service when you subscribe to thisservice. While this service is activated, thecaller will hear the information message thatthe call is not connected because of the callbarring.Getting Started23

If the called user has a 3G videophone in a 3G covered service area, the callwill be established. You can also answer avideo call for video incoming call. Tomake/answer a video call, do the following.1. Input the phone number using the keypad,or select the phone number from the callsmade/received lists.]To   correct mistakes, press Cbrieflyto delete the last number, or press andhold Cto delete all numbers.2. If you do not want to use thespeakerphone, ensure you have theheadset plugged in.3. To   start the video function, press the leftsoft key [Options] and select Video call.]You will be notified that you will needto close other applications to make thevideo call.Note]To   activate the speakerphone during acall, activate the touch keys and pressO.

Press and hold 0for the internationalprefix. The ‘+’ character prefixes theinternational access code.2. Enter the country code, area code, andthe phone number.3. Press S.Adjusting the volumeDuring a call, if you want to adjust theearpiece volume, use Aon the left side of thephone. In idle mode, you can adjust the keyvolume using A.Answering a callWhen you receive a call, the phone rings andthe flashing phone icon appears on thescreen. If the caller can be identified, thecaller’s phone number (or name if stored inyour Contacts) is displayed.Note]The video call may take some time toconnect. Please be patient. Theconnection time will also depend on howquickly the other party answers the call.While the video call is connecting, youwill see your own image; after the otherparty has answered, their image will bedisplayed on the screen.

Moving close toa window may improve reception.Entering text You can enter alphanumeric characters using the keypad.For example, storing names in Contacts,writing a message, creating a personalgreeting or scheduling events in the calendarall require entering text.The following text input methods areavailable with the handset.Note]You can answer a call while using theContacts or other menu features.]When the compatible headset isconnected, you can also answer a callusing the headset key, as well as usingthe phone. When you are in a field that allowscharacters to be entered, you will noticethe text input mode indicator in the upperright corner of the LCD screen.2. If T9 is on, you can change the mode toT9Abc, T9ABC, 123, T9abc by pressing#. When T9 is off, the mode will bechanged to Abc, ABC, 123, abc.Using the T9 ModeThe T9 predictive text input mode allows youto enter words easily with a minimum numberof key presses. As you press each key, thehandset begins to display the characters thatit thinks you are typing based on a built-indictionary. As new letters are added, the wordchanges to reflect the most likely candidatefrom the dictionary.1. When you are in the T9 predictive textinput mode, start entering a word bypressing 2to 9. Press one key perletter.T9 mode This mode lets you enter words with onlyone keystroke per letter. Each key on thekeypad has more than one letter. The T9mode automatically compares yourkeystrokes with an internal dictionary todetermine the correct word, thus requiringfar fewer keystrokes than the traditionalABC mode. This is sometimes known aspredictive text.
