LIMITED WARRANTY STATEMENT  1. WHAT THIS WARRANTY COVERS: LG offers you a limited warranty that the enclosed subscriber unit and its enclosed accessories will be free from defects in material and workmanship, according to the following terms and conditions: (1) The limited warranty for the product extends for ONE (1) year beginning on the data of purchase of the product. (2) The limited warranty extends on to the original purchaser of the product and is not assignable or transferable to any subsequent purchaser/end user. (3) This warranty is good only to the original purchaser of the product during the warranty period as long as it is in the U.S., including Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. Territories and Canada. (4) The external housing and cosmetic parts shall not be covered under these limited warranty terms. (5) Upon request from LG, the consumer must provide information to reasonably prove the date of purchase. (6) The customer shall bear the cost of shipping the product to the Customer Service Department of LG. LG shall bear the cost of shipping the product back to the consumer after the completion of service under this limited warranty.  2. WHAT THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER: (1) Defects or damages resulting from use of the product in other than its normal and customary manner. (2) Defects or damages from abnormal use, abnormal conditions, improper storage, exposure to moisture or dampness, unauthorized modifications, unauthorized connections, unauthorized repair, misuse, neglect, abuse, accident, alteration, improper installation, or other acts which are not the fault of LG, including damage caused by shipping blown fuses spills of food or liquid. (3) Breakage or damage to antennas unless caused directly by defects in material or workmanship. (4) That the Customer Service Department at LG was net notified by consumer of the alleged defect or malfunction of the product during the applicable limited warranty period. (5) Products which have had the serial number removed or made illegible. (6) The limited warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied either in fact or by operations law, statutory or otherwise, including, but limited to any implied warranty of marketability or fitness for a particular use. (7) Damage resulting from use of non-LG approved accessories. (8) All plastic surfaces and all other externally exposed parts that are scratched or damaged due to normal customer use. Getting Started14Installing the SmartChipWhen you subscribe to a cellularnetwork, you are provided with a plug-in SmartChip loaded with yoursubscription details, such as your PIN,any optional services available andmany others.1. If necessary, switch off the phone byholding down the [END] keyuntil the power-off image displays.2. Remove the battery. To do so:3. Slide the SmartChip into theSmartChip socket so that it locks thecard into place. Make sure that thenotched corner is top left and thegold contacts of the card face intothe phone.Important!The plug-in SmartChip and itscontacts can be easily damaged byscratches or bending, so be carefulwhen handling, inserting orremoving the card. Keep allSmartChips out of the reach of smallchildren.
Getting Started154. To insert the battery, align thegolden contacts of the battery withthe corresponding connectors onthe battery compartment. Pressdown on the opposite end of thebattery until it snaps into place.5. Attach the back cover by sliding upinto position until it clicks.Charging the BatteryThe use of unauthorized accessoriescould damage your phone and voidyour warranty.To use the travel charger providedwith your phone:1. With the battery in position on thephone, connect the lead from thetravel charger to the bottom of thephone. Check that the arrow on thelead connector is facing towards thefront of the phone.2. Connect the travel charger to astandard AC wall outlet. Only usethe travel charger that comesincluded with the package.NoteWhen you need to remove theSmartChip, slide it, as shown, andtake it out of the socket.

When a phone has been chargedfully, disconnect the travel chargerfrom the phone by pulling theconnector out.Notice]If your phone is powered onwhile charging, you’ll see thebars in the battery indicator iconcycle.When the battery is fullycharged, the bars in the batteryindicator icon will flash on andoff.If the battery fails to chargecompletely:]After turning the phone on andoff, please attempt to rechargethe battery.]After detaching and reattachingthe battery, please attempt torecharge the battery.WarningThe travel charger must beunplugged before you remove thebattery, otherwise, the phone couldbe damaged.
Getting Started17Turning Your Phone Onand Off1. Hold down the [END] key untilthe phone switches on.2. If the phone asks for a PIN, enter thePIN and the key.The phone searches for your networkand after finding it goes to the idlescreen as illustrated below. From theidle screen, you can make or receive acall.3. When you wish to switch the phoneoff, hold down the [END] keyuntil the power-off image displays.Access CodesYou can use the access codesdescribed in this section to avoidunauthorized use of your phone. Theaccess codes can be changed by usingthe Change Codes feature (Menu9.5.4).Security code (4 digits)The security code protects theunauthorized use of your phone. Thedefault security code is set to ‘0000’and the security code is required todelete all phone entries and to activatethe Restore Factory Settings menu. Thesecurity code default setting can bemodified from the Security Settingsmenu.NoteThe display language is preset toAutomatic at the factory. To changethe language, use the Languagesmenu option (Menu 9.2.5).Menu Options
General Functions18Making a Call1. Make sure your phone is poweredon.2. Enter a phone number includingthe area code. To edit a number onthe display screen, simply pressthe key to erase one digit at atime.]Press and hold the key toerase the entire number.3. Press the [SEND] key to call thenumber.4. When finished, press the [END]key.Making a Call by Send Key2. Press the [SEND] key, and themost recent incoming, outgoingand missed phone numbers will bedisplayed.2. Press the [SEND] key.Ending a CallWhen you have finished a call, pressthe [END] key.Making a Call From theContact ListYou can store names and phonenumbers dialed frequently in theSmartChip as well as in the phonememory known as the Contacts.You can dial a number by simplyselecting a name in the contacts andpressing the [SEND] key.
General Functions19Adjusting the VolumeDuring a call, if you want to adjust theearpiece volume, use the up/downnavigation key of the phone.Answering a CallWhen you receive a call, the phonerings and the flashing phone iconappears on the screen. If the caller canbe identified, the caller’s phonenumber (or name if stored in yourAddress Book) is displayed.1. Press the [SEND] key or the leftsoft key to answer an incoming call.If Any Key has been set as theanswer mode (Menu 9.4.2), any keypress will answer a call except forthe [END] key or the right softkey.2. End the call by closing the phone orpressing the [END] key.Vibrate Mode (Quick)Vibrate Mode can be activated bypressing and holding down the[Star] key.Signal StrengthIf you are inside a building, being neara window may give you betterreception. You can see the strength ofyour signal by the signal indicator onyour phone’s display screen.Entering TextYou can enter alphanumeric charactersby using the phone’s keypad. Forexample, storing names in the AddressBook, writing a message, or creatingscheduling events in the calendar allrequire entering text.The following text input methods areavailable in the phone.NoticeYou can answer a call while using theAddress Book or other menufeatures.
General Functions20T9 ModeThis mode allows you to enter wordswith only one keystroke per letter.Each key on the keypad has more thanone letter. The T9 mode automaticallycompares your keystrokes with aninternal linguistic dictionary todetermine the correct word, thusrequiring far fewer keystrokes than thetraditional ABC mode.You can set on and off for the T9 inputmode.ABC ModeThis mode allows you to enter lettersby pressing the key labeled with therequired letter once, twice, three orfour times until the letter is displayed.123 Mode (Numbers Mode)Type numbers using one keystroke pernumber. To change to 123 mode in atext entry field, press key until 123mode is displayed.A long press changes mode to 123.Symbolic ModeThis mode allows you to enter specialcharacters.Changing the Text InputModeChange the text input mode bypressing  . You can check thecurrent text input mode in the upperright corner of the screen.Using the T9 ModeThe T9 predictive text input modeallows you to enter words easily with aminimum number of key presses. Asyou press each key, the phone beginsto display the characters that it thinksyou are typing based on a built-indictionary. As new letters are added,the word changes to reflect the mostlikely candidate from the dictionary.NoticeThe default setting on the phone isT9 disabled mode.

When you are in the T9 predictivetext input mode, start entering aword by pressing keysto press one key per letter.]The word changes as letters aretyped - ignore what’s on thescreen until the word is typedcompletely.]If the word is still incorrect aftertyping completely, press thekey once or more to cycle throughthe other word options.]If the desired word is missing fromthe word choices list, add it byusing the ABC mode.2. Enter the whole word beforeediting or deleting any keystrokes.3. Complete each word with a spaceby pressing the key or the rightnavigation key.To delete letters, press the left softkey. Press and hold down the left softkey to erase the letterscontinuously.In T9 input mode, you can select adifferent T9 language such as English,Spanish and French by pressing andholding down the key.Using the ABC ModeUse the keypad keys to enter your text.1. General Functions22Using the 123 (Numbers)ModeThe 123 Mode enables you to enternumbers in a text message (atelephone number, for example) morequickly.Press the keys corresponding to therequired digits before manuallyswitching back to the appropriate textentry mode.Using the Symbol ModeThe Symbol Mode enables you toenter various symbols or specialcharacters.To enter a symbol, press the key.Use the navigation keys to select thedesired symbol and press the right softkey [OK].T9 dictionaryThe T9 dictionary is a feature thatallows the user to add any unique orpersonal words to the T9 standardlanguage database. The T9 dictionaryfunction can be selected from the TextEntry Settings sub menu under theOptions soft key menu. Selecting Functions andOptions23Your phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customize the phone. Thesefunctions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed via the two soft keysmarked the left soft  key and the right soft key. Each menu and sub-menuallows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.The soft key functions vary depending on the mode of the phone. The label on thebottom of the display screen immediately above the soft keys indicates the currentfunction.Press the right soft keyto access the availableOptions.Press the left soft keyto access the availableMenu.
In-Call Menu24Your phone provides a number ofcontrol functions that you can useduring a call. To access these functionsduring a call, press the right soft key[Options].During a CallThe menu displayed on the handsetscreen during a call is different thanthe default main menu displayedwhen in idle screen, and the optionsare described below.Making a Second CallYou can select a number you wish todial from the Address Book to make asecond call. Press the right soft key[Options] then select Contact List.Swapping Between Two CallsTo switch between two calls, press the[SEND] key.Answering an Incoming CallTo answer an incoming call when thehandset is ringing, simply pressthe [SEND] key. The handset is alsoable to warn you of an incoming callwhile you are already on a call. A tonesounds in the earpiece, and the displaywill show that a second call is waiting.This feature, known as Call Waiting, isonly available if your network supportsit.If Call Waiting is on, you can put thefirst call on hold and answer thesecond call, by pressing the[SEND] key.Rejecting an Incoming CallYou can reject an incoming callwithout answering by simply pressingthe [END] key.During a call, you can reject anincoming call by pressing the[END] key.Muting the MicrophoneYou can mute the microphone duringa call by pressing the left soft key[Mute]. The handset can be unmutedby pressing the left soft key [Unmute].When the handset is muted, the callercannot hear you, but you can still hearthe caller.
In-Call Menu25Using the SpeakerphoneYou can use the integratedSpeakerphone during a call bypressing the right soft key [Options]then select Speaker On. Thespeakerphone indicator [ ] willdisplay on the display screen. Theloudspeaker is automaticallydeactivated when you end the call.Conference CallsThe conference service provides youwith the ability to have a simultaneousconversation with more than onecaller.  The conference call feature canbe used only if your network serviceprovider supports this feature. Theconference call can only be set upwhen you have one call active and onecall on hold, meaning both calls musthave been answered. Once aconference call is set up, calls may beadded, disconnected or separated(that is, removed from the conferencecall but still connected to you) by theperson who set up the conference call.These options are all available from theIn-Call menu. The maximum numberof callers in a conference call is five.Once started, you are in control of theconference call, and only you can addcalls to the conference call. Making a Second CallYou can make a second call whilecurrently on a call simply by enteringthe second number and pressingthe [SEND] key. When the secondcall is connected, the first call isautomatically placed on hold. You canswap between calls, by pressingthe [SEND] key.WarningBecause of the higher volume level,don’t place the phone too close yourear while the speakerphone isenabled.
In-Call Menu26Setting Up a Conference CallTo set up a conference call, place onecall on hold, conference in the secondactive call by pressing the right soft keyand select the Join Calls sub menuoption from the Conference Call menu. Activate the Conference Callon HoldTo activate a conference call on hold,press the [SEND] key.Adding Calls to theConference CallTo add a call to an existing conferencecall, press the right soft key, and thenselect the Join Calls sub menu from theConference Call option.Private Call in a ConferenceCallTo have a private call with one callerfrom a conference call, press the rightsoft key and select the Private Menufrom the Conference Call option. Whenthe numbers of the callers aredisplayed, select the one you wish tospeak in private.  Ending a Conference CallCurrently active conference call can bedisconnected by pressing the[END] key.
