Intended use This consumer electronics device is used to play back audio files which can be transferred via Bluetooth® or 3.5-mm (0.14") jack cable. You can use the speaker as a hands-free kit to take calls using the integrated microphone if there is an existing Bluetooth® connection. The device is not intended for any other purpose, nor for use beyond the scope described. The device is not intended for use in commercial or industrial environments. The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for damage caused by failure to observe these instructions, improper use or repairs, unauthorized modifications, or the use of unapproved replacement parts. Improper use may result in personal injury and property damage. Basic safety instructions To ensure safe operation of the device, follow the safety guidelines set out below: ■■ Check the device for visible external damage before use. Keep all packaging materials away from children. This product contains small parts that could be swallowed (removable rubber feet). Keep it out of the hands of children. This device may be used by children aged 8 years and above and by persons with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, provided that they are under supervision or have been told how to use the device safely and are aware of the potential risks. Children must not play with the device. Cleaning and maintenance shall not be carried out by children unless they are supervised. If the charger cable or connections are damaged, have them replaced by an authorized specialist or the customer service department. Protect the charger cable from hot surfaces and sharp edges. Ensure that the charger cable is not stretched too much or kinked. Always place the device on a stable and level surface. It can be damaged if dropped. Do not expose the device to direct sunlight or high temperatures. Otherwise, it may overheat and be irreparably damaged. This will help prevent fires. The device may heat up while it is charging. Place the speaker in a well-ventilated location during the charging process and do not cover it. Protect the device from penetration by moisture and liquids. Never submerge the device in water or place objects filled with liquids (e.g. vases) next to the device. Turn the device off immediately and disconnect any connected cables from the device if you hear any unusual noises, smell fumes, or notice any smoke. Have the device checked by a qualified specialist before using it again. All repairs must be carried out by authorized service centers or by the customer service department. Improper repairs may put the user at risk. It will also invalidate any warranty claims. This device shall not be opened by the user. The device has an integrated lithium-ion battery. Mishandling the lithium-ion batteries can cause fires, explosions, leakage of dangerous chemicals, or other hazards! Do not throw the device into an open fire. Do not make any unauthorized modifications or alterations to the device. This device may not be opened by the user. If the delivery is incomplete or damage has occurred as a result of defective packaging or during transport, contact the service hotline (see Warranty section). Disposal of the packaging The packaging protects the device from damage during transport. The packaging materials have been selected for their environmental friendliness and ease of disposal and are therefore recyclable. Returning the packaging to the material cycle conserves raw materials and reduces the amount of waste that is generated. Dispose of packaging materials that are no longer needed in accordance with applicable local regulations. If possible, keep the original device packaging for the entire duration of the warranty period so that the device can be packaged properly for return shipment in the event of a warranty claim. ■ 6 │ US-EN IB_282774_Bluetooth_SKBL56A1_LB9.indb 6 ►►Charge the speakers only in dry interior spaces. Before using the speakers, the integrated batteries must be completely charged. ♦♦ Make sure that the speakers are turned off. If a device is turned on, the operating/charging LED lights up. When the battery is fully charged, the charging LED turns off. SKBL 56 A1 16.01.17 11:27 Charging takes about 3 hours at a charging current of 500 mA. When the battery is fully charged, you can play back music for about 4 hours at a medium volume. The playback time may vary depending on usage (volume). When the battery is empty, you will hear two beeps at intervals of just a few will flash orange twice every 15 seconds, and the operating/charging LED seconds. Operating the speakers in mono mode Upon delivery, the default preset of the speakers is in mono mode. This means you can pair each speaker with a playback device. Before you can use the speakers, you must pair them with a compatible Bluetooth® device. ♦♦ Make sure that the speakers are turned off and the Bluetooth® device is turned on. ♦♦ Set the Bluetooth® device so that it scans for other Bluetooth® devices. A detailed description of how to do this can be found in the operating instructions for your Bluetooth® device. If your Bluetooth® device does not automatically reconnect, you will have to re-establish the connection manually. A detailed description of how to do this can be found in the oper ating instructions for your Bluetooth® device. If you want to connect the speaker to another Bluetooth® device, you must first unpair the current Bluetooth® device. To do this, hold down the button and the button ( ) of the affected speaker for about 2 seconds until you hear a beep. Alternatively, you can terminate the connection on your Bluetooth® device. In this case, you will also hear a beep. ♦♦ If you want to operate the second speaker in mono mode with a different Bluetooth® playback device, carry out the process described above with the second speaker. Make sure you do not turn on the second speaker until you have paired the first speaker with a Bluetooth® playback device. You can now use the speaker wirelessly to listen to your favourite tunes. ■ 8 │ US-EN IB_282774_Bluetooth_SKBL56A1_LB9.indb 8 SKBL 56 A1 16.01.17 11:27 Operating the speakers in stereo mode You can also operate both speakers at the same time from the same Bluetooth device. In this case, each speaker will play back one audio channel. ® ♦♦ Make sure that the speakers are turned off and the Bluetooth® device is turned on. ♦♦ Set the Bluetooth® device so that it scans for other Bluetooth® devices. A detailed description of how to do this can be found in the operating instructions for your Bluetooth® device. ♦♦ Press and hold the button for about 2 seconds to turn a speaker on and activate the Bluetooth® function. You will hear a beep and the will flash orange und blue. You will hear a short beep when the connecon tion has been established successfully. The operating/charging LED the connected speaker will also permanently light up orange. This speaker will output the left stereo channel. US-EN │ 9 ■ 16.01.17 11:27 Button The next time you turn on the speakers, they will connect automatically to each other. To unpair the speakers, proceed as follows. If you want to connect the speaker to another Bluetooth® device, you must first unpair the current Bluetooth® device. To do this, hold down the button and the button ( ) of the affected speaker for about 2 seconds until you hear a beep. Alternatively, you can terminate the connection on your Bluetooth® device. In this case, you will also hear a beep. ►► Press briefly to decrease the volume. When you reach the minimum volume (mute), you will hear a short beep. ►► Press and hold for 2 seconds to jump back to beginning of the current track. Within 2 seconds, press and hold again for 2 seconds to jump to the previous track. Function of the buttons for music playback Button Function ►► Press briefly to play/pause the music. ►► Press and hold until you hear a beep to turn the speaker on or off. The device must be paired with your Bluetooth® device again before you can reuse it. Function ►► Press briefly to increase the volume. When you reach the maximum volume, you will hear a brief tone. ►► Press and hold for approx. 2 seconds to jump to the next track. ►► Press and hold both buttons at the same time for about 2 seconds to activate or deactivate the Bluetooth® connection. When the Bluetooth® function is activated, the two speakers connect automatically ( ). Telephone functions ■■ If you use a smartphone as your Bluetooth® playback device, the audio playback will be paused when there is an incoming call. ■■ Acceptance/termination of the call can be carried out via the smartphone or the speaker. To do so, please follow the operating manual of your smartphone. ■■ After finishing the call, the playback of the audio file will be continued automatically. Functions of the buttons Depending on the smartphone used, not all functions described will be available. Function button Accept call Press once (for incoming call). Stereo operation is not possible in AUX IN mode. An existing Bluetooth connection is terminated. ♦♦ Make sure that both speakers are turned off. ♦♦ Press and hold the button for about 2 seconds to turn a speaker on. When a device is connected via a 3.5-mm (0.14") jack cable, the Bluetooth® function is deactivated. ♦♦ Ensure that the speaker is turned on. ♦♦ If you use several music devices, ensure that any previous connection is disconnected (see section Function of the buttons for music playback). There may be a previously paired device within range. ♦♦ Make sure that the speakers are no more than 32 ft from the Bluetooth® device and each other. Make sure that there are no barriers or electronic devices placed between them. SKBL 56 A1 16.01.17 11:28 Device does not turn on. ♦♦ The integrated battery is not charged. Charge the battery (see section Charging the speaker). No sound. ♦♦ The volume on the device or the playback device is set to mute. Increase the volume on the device or on the playback device. ♦♦ Playback has not been started on the playback device. Start playback on the playback device. The two speakers will not connect to each other. ♦♦ The speakers are not in pairing mode. To change this, press and hold the button and the button ( )of one of the speakers for about 2 seconds until you hear a beep. Wait a moment until the speakers have connected to each other. Cleaning ►►To avoid irreparable damage to the device, ensure that moisture cannot penetrate the device during cleaning. ►►Do not use caustic, abrasive or solvent-based cleaning materials. These can damage the surfaces of the device. ♦♦ Clean the housing of the device with a lightly moistened cloth and a mild detergent only. Storage when not in use ♦♦ Store the device in a location which is clean, dry, dust-free and not in direct sunlight. ♦♦ To ensure long battery life, charge the battery at regular intervals. If you cannot solve the problem with the above-mentioned solutions, please contact the service hotline (see Warranty section).
