INSTALLING DEVICE DRIVER1.1 Installing Device Driver under Windows 98This section contains the procedures for installing the YMF744/754 PCI sound card devicedriver software on your computer. The YMF744/754 PCI sound card is a Windows 98Plug-and-Play device. Once the YMF744/754 PCI sound card is installed and yourcomputer starts up, Windows 98 will automatically detect the device and start the InstallWizard. You can install the device driver by following the procedure either in Section 1.1.1or in Section 1.1.2.1.1.1 Installing the Device Driver by Setup.exe1.) Please bypass the Microsoft Windows installation wizard by clicking on theCANCEL button as shown in the figure below.2.) In Microsoft Windows 98, click on the “Start”->”Run” item. Assuming your CD-ROMdrive is D, type D:\YMF744\Win95&98\AUTOINST\SETUP.exe in the command line ofthe RUN dialog box. Click OK.3.) Follow the on-screen instructions. The SETUP program will ask you to restart thecomputer as a necessary procedure to install the device driver successfully.

After you have installed your YMF744/754 PCI sound card start up your MicrosoftWindows 98 operating system.2.) The “Add New Hardware Wizard” dialog box will appear as shown below.Click “Next>” to continue.3.) As recommended choose “Search for the best driver for your device”.Click “Next>”.

In the next “Add New Hardware Wizard” dialog box, select “Specify a location”.Assuming your CD-ROM drive is D, please type the path D:\YMF744\Win95&98 in thecommand line. Click “Next>”. 5.) The next “Add New Hardware Wizard” dialog box will inform you that the wizard hasfound the “YAMAHA DS-XG Audio CODEC” in the specified location. Just click “Next>”to accept the location of the new device driver.

Verifying the Device Driver InstallationIf you want to view the correct installation of the device driver for your YMF744/754 PCIsound card, please follow the steps as described below.1.) Go to >”Start”->”Settings”->”Control Panel" and double-click on the “System” icon.2.) From the “System Properties” dialog box select the “Device Manager” tap and youwill see the following figure.3.) Double-click on “Sound, video and game controllers” and you will see the followingthree devices have been added to your system:Make sure that thare is no yellow Question mark or Exclaimation mark on each of thedevices to ensure the driver is successfully installed.• YAMAHA DS-XG GamePort• YAMAHA DS-XG Legacy Sound System• YAMAHA DS-XG PCI Audio CODEC

APPLICATION SOFTWARE3.1 “Ystation32” Installation Guide Under Windows 98If you want to install the application software “Ystation32” for your YMF744/754 PCI soundcard, please follow the steps as described below.1.) Start up your Microsoft Windows 98 operating system.2.) Click on the START and choose the RUN from the START menu.3.) Please insert your driver CD into your CD-ROM drive. Assuming your CD-ROM drive isD, type D:\YMF744\Ystation\Setup.exe in the command line of the RUN dialog box.4.) The first “Setup” dialog box will flash by, preparing the InstallShield Wizard whichwill guide you through the rest of the SETUP program.

Please click “Next>” to continue.6.) The “Choose Destination Location” dialog box will display the default destinationdirectory, to where the SETUP program will install the program files.To continue the installation, you may accept the default directory C:\ProgramFiles\YAMAHA\DS-XG\, click “Next>”. If you want a different location, click on the “Browse..” to browse to another directory asthe destination directory and click “Next>”.

The SETUP program is now complete. Click e OK and you may run YStation32 bydouble clicking the program icon in the new “Yamaha” Program group. You may alsoselect the program icon in the Programs menu.9.) The “Yamaha DS-XG” program group will appear at the end of the SETUP procedure.The application “Ystation32” has been successfully installed on your computer.
