Pleaseread all the information carefully for optimal performance and to prevent any damage to ormisuse of the phone. Any changes or modifications not expressly approved in thisuser’s guide could void your warranty for thisequipment.
• The unit should be kept away from heat sourcessuch as radiators or cookers.• Never place your phone in a microwave oven as itwill cause battery to explode.• Do not drop.• Do not subject this unit to mechanical vibration orshock.• The coating of the phone may be damaged if coveredwith wrap or vinyl wrapper.• Do not use harsh chemicals (such as alcohol, benzene, thinners, etc.) or detergents to clean yourphone. There is a risk of this causing a fire.• Do not subject this unit to excessive smoke or dust.• Do not keep the phone next to credit cards or transport tickets; it can affect the information on themagnetic strips.• Do not tap the screen with a sharp object as it maydamage the phone.• Do not expose the phone to liquid or moisture.• Use accessories, such as earphones and headsets,with caution. In aircraftWireless devices can cause interference in aircraft.• Turn off your mobile phone before boarding any aircraft.• Do not use it on the ground without crew permission.ChildrenKeep the phone in a safe place out of small children'sreach. It includes small parts which if detached maycause a choking hazard.Emergency callsEmergency calls may not be available under all mobilenetworks. Therefore, you should never depend solelyon your mobile phone for emergency calls. Check withyour local service provider.Battery information and care • You do not need to completely discharge the batterybefore recharging. Unlike other battery systems,there is no memory effect that could compromise thebattery's performance.• Use only LG batteries and chargers. LG chargers aredesigned to maximize the battery life.• Do not disassemble or short-circuit the battery pack.• Keep the metal contacts of the battery pack clean.• Replace the battery when it no longer providesacceptable performance. Installing the SIM card and the handsetbatteryMake sure the power is off before you remove the battery.1. Remove the battery.Press the battery release latch and slide the batterycover downloads. Then lift out the top of the battery. nNote Removing the battery from the phone when thepower is on may cause the phone to malfunction.2. Install the SIM cardInsert the SIM card into the holder. Slide the SIMcard into the SIM card holder. Make sure that theSIM card is inserted properly and that the gold contact area on the card is facing downwards. Toremove the SIM card, press down lightly and pull itin the reverse direction.nCaution The metal contact of the SIM card can be easily damaged by scratches. Getting started173. Install the battery.Insert the bottom of the battery first into the bottomedge of the battery compartment. Push down thetop of the battery until it snaps into space.Charging the batteryTo connect the mains adapter to the phone, you musthave installed the battery.1. With the arrow facing you as shown in the diagrampush the plug on the battery adapter into the socketon the bottom of the phone until it clicks into place.2. Connect the other end of the mains adapter to themains socket. Only use the charger included in thebox.3. The moving bars of battery icon will stop aftercharging is complete.
nCaution • Do not force the connector as this may damage the phone and/or the travel adapter.• If you use the battery pack charger out ofyour own country, use an attachment plugadapter for the proper configuration. • Do not remove your battery or the SIM cardwhile charging.nWarning • Unplug the power cord and charger duringlightning storms to avoid electric shock or fire.• Make sure that no sharp-edged items suchas animal teeth or nails come into contactwith the battery. There is a risk of this causing a fire.• Do not place or answer calls while chargingthe phone as it may short-circuit the phoneand/or cause electric shock or fire.Disconnecting the adapter1. When charging is finished, the moving bars of thebattery icon stop and ‘Full’ is displayed on the mainscreen.2. Unplug the adapter from the power outlet.Disconnect the adapter from the phone by pressingthe grey tabs on both sides of the connector andpull the connector out.nNote • Ensure the battery is fully charged before usingthe phone. for the first time.• Do not remove the battery or SIM card whilecharging.• In the case the battery is not properly charged,please turn the phone off and on using the powerkey. 19Getting startedTurning your phone on and offTurning your phone ON1. Install a battery to the handset and connect thephone to an external power source such as thetravel adapter, cigarette lighter adapter or hands-free car kit. Or install a charged battery packto the handset.2. Press and hold for a few seconds until the LCDscreen is turned on.3. Depending on the status of the PIN code requestsetting you may need to enter your PIN code.Turning your phone OFF1. Press and hold for a few seconds until the LCDscreen is turned off.Access codesYou can use the access codes described in this section to avoid unauthorised use of your phone. Theaccess codes (except PUK and PUK2 codes) can bechanged by using the Change codes feature [Menu 3-4-5]. See page 48.PIN code (4 to 8 digits)The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code protects your SIM card against unauthorised use. ThePIN code is usually supplied with the SIM card. Whenthe PIN code request is set to Enable, your phone willrequest the PIN code every time the phone isswitched on. When the PIN code request is set toDisable, your phone connects to the network directlywithout the PIN code.PIN2 code (4 to 8 digits)The PIN2 code, supplied with some SIM cards, isrequired to access functions such as Fixed dial num-ber. These functions are only available if supported byyour SIM card. Check with your network operator forfurther information.
PUK code (4 to 8 digits)The PUK (PIN Unblocking Key) code is required tounlock a PIN blocked phone. The PUK code may besupplied with the SIM card. If not, contact your network operator for the code. If you lose the code,please contact your network operator.PUK2 code (4 to 8 digits)The PUK2 code, supplied with some SIM cards, isrequired to change a blocked PIN2 code. If you losethe code, please contact your network operator.Security code (4 to 8 digits)The security code protects the unauthorised use ofyour phone. The default security code is set to ‘0000’and the security code is required to delete all phoneentries and to activate the Reset settings menu. Also,the security code is required to enable or disable thephone lock function to prevent unauthorised use of thephone. The security code default setting can be modified from the Security settings menu. Barring passwordThe barring password is required when you use theCall barring [Menu 3-4-3] function. You can obtain the password from your network operator when you subscribe to this function. See page 46 for furtherdetails.Getting started20
21Making and answering callsMaking a call1. Make sure your phone is switched on.2. Enter a phone number, including the area code. ]Press and hold the clear key (  ) to erase theentire number.3. Press the send key (  ) to call the number.4. To end the call, press the end key (  ) or the rightsoft key. Making a call from the call history list1. In standby mode, press the send key (  ), and thelatest incoming, outgoing and missed phone numberswill be displayed.2. Select the desired number by using the up/down navi-gation keys.3. Press  to call the number.Making an international call1. Press and hold the  key for the international prefix.The ‘+’ character automatically selects the internationalaccess code.2. Enter the country code, area code, and the phone num-ber.3. Press  to call the number.Ending a callWhen you have finished your call, press the end ( ) key.Making a call from the address bookYou can save the names and phone numbers dialled regu-larly in the SIM card and/or phone memory. You can dial anumber by simply looking up the desired name in theaddress book and pressing the ( ) key.General functions
22Answering a callWhen you receive a call, the phone rings and the mov-ing circles icon appears on the screen. If the callercan be identified, the caller’s phone number (or name if saved in the phonebook) is displayed.1. To answer an incoming call, open the phone. (WhenFlip open has been set as the answer mode. Seepage 45 [Menu 3-3-2].)nNote If Any key has been set as the answer mode (seepage 45), any key press will answer a call exceptfor the  or the right soft key.]You can answer a call while using the addressbook or other menu features.2. To end the call, close the phone or press the key.Signal strengthYou can check the strength of your signal by the signalindicator ( ) on the LCD screen of your phone.Signal strength can vary, particularly inside buildings.Moving near to a window may improve reception.Entering textYou can enter alphanumeric characters by using thephone’s keypad. 23General functionsChanging the text input mode1. When you are in a field thatallows characters to be entered,you will notice the text inputmode indicator in the top rightcorner of the LCD screen.2. Change the text input mode bypressing  . You can check the current text input mode in the topright corner of the LCD screen.]Using the T9 modeThe T9 predictive text input mode lets you enter wordseasily with a minimum number of key presses. As youpress each key, the phone begins to display the characters that it thinks you are typing based on thebuilt-in dictionary. You can also add new words in thedictionary. As new words are added, the word changes to reflect the most likely candidate from thedictionary.T9 modeThis mode lets you enter words with only one keystroke per letter. Each key on the keypad hasmore than one letter. The T9 mode automaticallycompares your keystrokes with an internal dictionary to determine the correct word, thusrequiring far fewer keystrokes than the traditionalABC mode. This is sometimes known as predictivetext.ABC modeThis mode lets you enter letters by pressing the keylabelled with the required letter once, twice, threeor four times until the letter is displayed.123 mode (Number mode)Type numbers using one keystroke per number. Tochange to 123 mode in a text entry field, pressthe key until 123 mode is displayed.Options Inserttext input mode

Ignorewhat’s on the screen until the word is typed completely.- If the word is still incorrect after typing completely,press the down navigation key once or more tocycle through the other word options.Example:Press to type GoodPress  [Down navigation key] totype Home- If the desired word is missing from the wordchoice list, add it using the ABC mode.- You can select the language of the T9 mode. Pressthe left soft key [Option], then select T9 languages.Select the desired language of T9 mode. You canalso turn off the T9 mode by selecting T9 off. Thedefault setting on the phone is T9 enabled mode.2. Enter the whole word before editing or deleting anykeystrokes.3. Complete each word with a space by pressing thekey. 26In-call menuYour phone provides a number of control functionsthat you can use during a call. To access these functions during a call, press the left soft key[Options].During a callThe menu displayed on the handset screen during acall is different to the default main menu displayedwhen in standby mode, and the options are describedbelow. Making a second callYou can get a number you wish to dial from the phonebook to make a second call. Press the right softkey then select Search. To save the dialled numberinto the phonebook during a call, press the right softkey then select Add new.Switching between two callsTo switch between two calls, press the left soft keythen select Swap or by pressing key.Answering an incoming callTo answer an incoming call when the handset is ringing, simply press the  key. The handset is alsoable to warn you of an incoming call while you arealready on a call. A tone sounds in the earpiece, andthe display will show that a second call is waiting.This feature, known as Call waiting, is only available ifyour network supports it. For details of how to activateand deactivate it see Call waiting [Menu 3-3-4] onpage 45.If Call waiting is activated, you can put the first callon hold and answer the second, by pressing  orby selecting the left soft key[Answer].Rejecting an incoming callYou can reject an incoming call without answering bysimply pressing the key. During a call, you canreject an incoming call by pressing the right soft key[End] key or by pressing the  .General functions
27General functionsAdjusting the volume during a callYou can adjust the volume during a call by pressingthe left/soft nevigationkey.Switching DTMF tones on during a callTo turn DTMF tones on during a call, press the left softkey, and then select DTMF on. DTMF tones can beturned off the same way. DTMF tones allow yourphone to make use of an automated switchboard.Muting the microphoneYou can mute the microphone during a call by pressing the [Menu] key then selecting Mute on. Thehandset can be unmuted by selecting Mute off. Whenthe handset is muted, the caller cannot hear you, butyou can still hear them.Multiparty or conference callsThe multiparty or conference service provides youwith the ability to have a simultaneous conversationwith more than one caller, if your network operatorsupports this feature. A multiparty call can only be setup when you have one active call and one call onhold, both calls having been answered. Once a multiparty call is set up, calls can be added, disconnected or separated (that is, removed from themultiparty call but still connected to you) by the person who set up the multiparty call. These optionsare all available from the In-Call menu. The maximumcallers in a multiparty call are five. Once started, youare in control of the multiparty call, and only you canadd callers to the multiparty call.Making a second callYou can make a second call while currently on a call.Enter the second number and press the  key. When the second call is connected, the first call is automatically placed on hold. You can swap betweencalls by pressing the left soft key then selecting Swap.Setting up a conference callPlace one call on hold and while the active call is on,press the left soft key and then select the Conference/Join all.
General functions28Putting a conference call on holdPress the left soft key, then select the Conference/Hold all.Activate the conference call on holdPress the left soft key, then select theConference/Join all.Adding calls to the conference callTo add a call to an existing conference call, press theleft soft key, then select the Conference/Join all.Displaying callers in a conference callTo scroll through the numbers of the callers who makeup a conference call on the handset screen, use theup/down navigation keys.Taking a private call during a conference callTo have a private call with one caller from a conference call, display the number of the caller youwish to talk to on the screen, then press the left softkey. Select the Conference/Private to put all the othercallers on hold.Ending a conference callThe currently displayed caller from a conference callcan be disconnected by pressing the  key. To enda conference call, press the left soft key, then selectthe Conference/End multiparty. After pressing the leftsoft key, selecting Conference/End all will end all theactive and on-hold calls.
