Getting Started
Installing SmartHalo
1. Open the SmartHalo packaging from the top.
2. Take out the SmartHalo main unit and its HaloKey™.
3. Before opening the accessories box, download the SmartHalo app from the Apple
App Store or Google Play Store.
4. Follow instructions in the app. You will be prompted to create a user profile, install
SmartHalo and pair it to your phone.
Pairing SmartHalo
SmartHalo can only be paired with one account, to prevent unauthorized users to take
control of the device. Once paired, it is not possible to pair again with another account,
unless the device is forgotten from the account. To forget a device:
1. Click on the Device button in the upper right
2. At the bottom of the drawer, you will see the name of the device currently associated
with the account. If you see “not connected”
Charging SmartHalo
When you open the SmartHalo box for the first time, the SmartHalo battery might not be fully
charged. To charge:
1. Plug the provided USB cable into the port behind the rubber flap on the main unit.
2. Plug the other end into an available USB port on your computer or in a power socket.
3. When SmartHalo is charging, tap once on the top surface to see the charge
percentage.
4. You can’t use SmartHalo while it’s charging.
Using SmartHalo
SmartHalo provides 5 main features: Navigation, Light, Alarm, Fitness and Assistant. Each
of those is represented by an icon at the bottom of the app. You’ll also see at the upper left
the Profile Button, which is used to make changes to the user’s profile, get help, review the
install instructions, read the terms of use and the privacy policy, as well as to logout of the
app. At the upper right is the Device Button, which is used to indicate the connection state,
pair with a SmartHalo, receive notifications from the device and review the state of each
feature. The Gear Button allows the user to specify additional configurations (only available
for Navigation and Fitness).
Navigation
The Navigation feature gives the user turn-by-turn instructions while biking, using
SmartHalo’s circular interface. It is possible to either search for a place or address in the
Search Bar, or to long-press somewhere on the map. The Target Button (at the bottom right)

centers the map on the user’s location. When a destination is selected, the green arrow will
start the instructions.
Light
The Light feature is used to configure SmartHalo’s integrated front light. The Night Time
Activation toggle allows to choose between manual or automatic activation. When Auto is
selected, the light will turn on automatically at sunset, and turn off at sunrise. On Manual, the
light will only turn on when manually (either by pressing the light button in the app, or by
tapping twice on the top surface of the device). The Mode toggle allows to choose between a
light that blinks (“Blinking”), or that stays steady (“Normal”). Regardless of what is chosen
here, the light will turn off automatically after 30 seconds without movement on the device.
Alarm
The Alarm feature is used to configure the alarm system of SmartHalo. When activated and
if the user’s phone is not within range, the alarm will trigger when it detects movement on the
device. It will automatically disarm when the user is in proximity. In case you do not have
your phone with you, that the app is not opened, or that your phone is out of battery, you can
also disarm the alarm using your tapcode by tapping on the device’s top surface. We
recommend using the enclosed reminder card (in the accessories box) to write down your
tapcode, and leaving it in your wallet.
Fitness
The Fitness feature allows you to keep track of your cycling metrics, such as your time,
distance, average speed, elevation, calories and CO2 spared. By clicking on the Gear
Button, you can choose whether you want miles or kilometers. You can also toggle between
Manual and Automatic fitness tracking. On Automatic, the app will start tracking
automatically as soon as you start pedaling (when it detects movement on the device).
Assistant
The Assistant feature is used to configure the type of notifications the user can receive from
the device. On Android, the user can choose to receive notifications for calls and SMS. On
iOS, only notifications for calls are possible at the moment. In that screen, it is also possible
to choose the level of sound notifications emitted by the device.
