Regulatory NoticesRegulatory NoticesElectromagnetic interference (EMI) is any signal or emission, radiated in free space or conducted along power or signal leads,that endangers the functioning of radio navigation or other safety service or seriously degrades, obstructs, or repeatedlyinterrupts a licensed radio communications service. Radio communications services include but are not limited to AM/FMcommercial broadcast, television, cellular services, radar, air-traffic control, pager, and Personal Communication Services(PCS). These licensed services, along with unintentional radiators such as digital devices, including computer systems,contribute to the electromagnetic environment.Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is the ability of items of electronic equipment to function properly together in theelectronic environment. While this computer system has been designed and determined to be compliant with regulatory agencylimits for EMI, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does causeinterference with radio communications services, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, you areencouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:•Reorient the receiving antenna.•Relocate the device with respect to the receiver.•Move the device away from the receiver.•Plug the device into a different outlet so that the device and receiver are on different branch circuits.If necessary, consult a Dell Technical Support representative or an experienced radio/television technician for additionalsuggestions.Dell™ products are designed, tested, and classified for their intended electromagnetic environment. These electromagneticenvironment classifications generally refer to the following harmonized definitions:•Class A is typically for business or industrial environments.•Class B is typically for residential environments.Information Technology Equipment (ITE), including peripherals, expansion cards, printers, input/output (I/O) devices,monitors, and so on, that are integrated into or connected to the system should match the electromagnetic environmentclassification of the end-user location.A Notice about Shielded Signal Cables: Use only shielded cables for connecting peripherals to any Dell device to reduce thepossibility of interference with radio communications services. Using shielded cables ensures that you maintain the appropriateEMC classification for the intended environment. For parallel printers, a cable is available from Dell. If you prefer, you canorder a cable from Dell on the World Wide Web at www.dell.com. Most Dell computer systems are classified for the Class Benvironments. However, the inclusion of certain options can change the rating of some configurations to Class A.Dell has determined that this product is an EMI/EMC Class B harmonized product. Wireless Regulatory NoticesWireless InteroperabilityThe Dell Wireless/Ethernet Card is designed to be interoperable with any wireless LAN product that is based on direct sequencespread spectrum (DSSS) radio technology and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and to comply with thefollowing standards:•IEEE 802.11b-1999 Standard on 2.4 GHz Wireless LAN•IEEE 802.11g Standard on 2.4 GHz Wireless LAN•Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) certification, as defined by the Wi-Fi AllianceSafetyThe Dell Wireless/Ethernet Card, like other radio devices, emits radio frequency electromagnetic energy. The level of energyemitted by this device, however, is less than the electromagnetic energy emitted by other wireless devices such as mobile phones.The Dell Wireless/Ethernet Card operates within the guidelines found in radio frequency safety standards andrecommendations. These standards and recommendations reflect the consensus of the scientific community and result fromdeliberations of panels and committees of scientists who continually review an interpret the extensive research literature. Insome situations or environments, the use of the Dell Wireless/Ethernet card may be restricted by the proprietor of the buildingor responsible representatives of the applicable organization. USA - Federal Communications Commission (FCC)FCC Radiation Exposure StatementWARNING: The radiated output power of the Dell Wireless/Ethernet Card is far below the FCC radio frequency exposure limits.Nevertheless, the Dell Wireless/Ethernet Card should be used in such a manner that the potential for human contact during normaloperation is minimized. To avoid the possibility of exceeding the FCC radio frequency exposure limits, you should keep a distanceof at least 20 cm between you (or any other person in the vicinity) and the antenna that is built into the printer. To determine thelocation of the antenna within your printer, check the information posted on the general Dell support site athttp://support.dell.com.This device has also been evaluated for and shown compliant with the FCC RF exposure limits under portable exposure conditions(antennas are within 20cm of a person's body) when installed in certain specific OEM configurations. Details of the authorizedconfigurations can be found at http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/help.html by entering the FCC ID number on the device.Radio Frequency Interference RequirementsThis device is restricted to indoor use due to its operation in the 2.412 GHz to 2.462 GHz frequency range. The FCC requires thisproduct to be used indoors for the frequency range 2.412 GHz to 2.462 GHz to reduce the potential for harmful interference to co-channel Mobile Satellite systems.High power radars are allocated as primary users of the 2.412 GHz to 2.462 GHz bands. These radar stations can cause interferencewith this device, or can cause damage to this device, or both.Interference StatementThese devices comply with Part 15 of the FCC rules. Radio ApprovalsIt is important to ensure that you only use your radio device in countries where the device is approved for use. To determine whetheryou are allowed to use your wireless network device in a specific country, please check to see if the radio type number that is printedon the identification label of your device is listed on the radio approval list posted on the general Dell support site athttp://support.dell.com.In countries other than the United States and Japan, verify that the Location setting from the Regional Options tab in Regional andLanguage Options (from Control Panel) has been set to the country in which you are using your Dell Wireless/Ethernet Card.
