Product Description

The Customer’s Needs

Home Network Defender is designed to help keep a family’s digital
life safe by stopping Internet threats before they reach the
computers. It helps stop both Internet threats and inappropriate
websites from sneaking into the home network.

Every year, more Internet threats and malware make their way onto our
computers and home devices. Many of the PCs and Internet devices
used at home are not fully protected against emerging Web threats
(phishing, online predators) and the latest malware. Home Network
Defender integrates the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network to offer
real-time web threat protection and provides Trend Micro Antivirus +
Antispyware to help protect home PCs against the latest malware.

The Internet security software resides directly on the router.
There is no need to install it separately on each PC or device.
During the router setup process EasyLink Advisor prompts the
user to simply click on a graphical icon of the device and provide
the desired settings.
Home Network Defender can help consumers set up a safer and
better protected home network; and offers Safe Web Surfing,
Parental Controls, and Network Activity Report services for
IP-enabled devices (such as online game consoles) connected to
the home network. It also includes Trend Micro Antivirus +
Antispyware software for virus and spyware protection for up to four
connected PCs.
A 30-day trial of Home Network Defender is included with selected
new Linksys by Cisco routers. The trial offer begins when HND is
activated during router setup. After the 30 day trial, the features are
deactivated until the subscription is purchased. If users purchase
within 60 days of trial activation
they receive a 20% discount. Home Network Defender is currently
available on new versions of the following routers:

Unlike today’s security solutions which require bulky software on
each PC and device, a Linksys by Cisco router with HND provides a
blanket of protection for the entire home network. HND provides a

Safe Web Surfing
Home Network Defender is designed to keep the user from being
directed to malicious content or masquerading web pages that may
steal personal information. It helps block malicious downloads from
websites and provides three customizable security levels of Web
Threat Protection.

Internet Connection: Home Network Defender requires an
Internet connection to enable the user to register online,
download updates, obtain virus information, send email to
support, view network activity report, and browse pages on
the Trend Micro website

Continuous, real-time updates identify the latest risky Web sites –
and even legitimate ones that contain threats. This is especially
effective for game consoles with Internet browsers that on their own
may have weak Internet security.
Parental Controls
HND helps users view appropriate website content based on a
customized rule set, and can even restrict access at specific times.
Unlike other products, Home Network Defender acts at the router
level, outsmarting even the most tech-savvy kids from altering
controls on their PCs while helping to protect Internet users from
inadvertently visiting compromising sites or revealing personal
information to predators who operate over the Web.
A Parental Control management console helps parents prevent
their children from accessing inappropriate websites. Four
default policies are designed to help protect family members of
different ages:

In addition, Home Network Defender provides 32 blocking
categories for policy customization and can allow parents to restrict
their children’s Internet access by time and day.

Setup and Installation

The Setup Wizard contained in the router guides users through
the easy setup process.
To install Home Network Defender EasyLink Advisor first requires
the user to create an account. Thereafter the Wizard will step
through the various settings and controls.

HND is designed to block websites based on specified URLs and
keywords and also includes a comprehensive reporting feature to
show what content is being viewed by whom.
Network Activity Reports
Using Network Activity Reports parents or network administrators
can monitor potential violations or activities. Network reports can
be viewed from anywhere in the world using an Internet connection
and browser. Activity Reports are sent to an email address
specified at daily, weekly or monthly intervals.
Anti-Virus
HND includes four licenses of Trend Micro AntiVirus plus
AntiSpyware to work at the PC level and complement the Internet
security protection on the router, providing a true multi-layer
protection solution. AntiSpyware works even if the computer is
connected through a different network.
