3With this system you can also play yourfavourite music stored on USB device andselect tracks and playback modes withboth voice commands or buttons on thesteering wheel.THE HANDS-FREE KITThe basic characteristic of this hands-freekit is voice recognition with Bluetooth®wireless technology. With this system youcan make and receive calls safely and se-curely using either voice commands orbuttons on the steering wheel under what-ever driving condition without having totake your eyes off the road or removingyour hands from the steering wheel, as re-quired by current law regulations.Bluetooth®wireless technology enableswireless connection between your mobilephone and the hands-free kit installed onyour car. To use the hands-free kit, you need aBluetooth®wireless technology enabledmobile phone. This hands-free kit givesyou the possibility of interacting vocallywith your mobile phone while driving,even if your mobile device does not fea-ture this capability. You can also interactwith your mobile phone manually and vi-sually using the steering wheel controlsand the instrument panel multifunction dis-play. For further details on the mobile phonessupported by Blue&Me™, refer to sec-tion Blue&Me™ SUPPORTED MOBILEPHONES.To get started with Blue&Me™ hands-free kit with voice recognition, you haveto simply pair your Bluetooth®wirelesstechnology enabled mobile phone with thesystem.Pairing is an operation that has to be madeonly once.Hands-free kit with Bluetooth®wireless technology,message reader and media playerOVERVIEWWindows Mobile™-based Fiat Blue&Me™is a personal telematic system enabling touse communication and entertainment ap-plications expressly designed for use in thecar.The Blue&Me™ system installed on yourcar is equipped with hands-free kit, mes-sage reader and media player, and it is pre-set for future installation of additional ser-vices.The Blue&Me™ system, fully integralwith voice commands, buttons on thesteering wheel and multifunction displaymessages, gives you the possibility of in-teracting with your Bluetooth®wirelesstechnology mobile phone (even if youkeep it in your pocket or bag) without hav-ing to take your eyes off the road or re-moving your hands from the steeringwheel. To use voice commands you arenot required to train the voice recognitionsystem to recognize your voice. This im-plies that the system is nearly equally per-forming with different persons, i.e.: thevoice recognition system is of the “speak-er independent” type.
4NoteDuring the mobile phone pairing proce-dure, Blue&Me™ attempts to detect aphone equipped with Bluetooth®wire-less technology within range and then es-tablishes the connection using a PersonalIdentification Number (PIN).Once your phone is paired, you have theoption to transfer your mobile phone con-tacts to the hands-free kit, to make aphone call either by using the contacts listor directly pronouncing the phone num-ber, to answer a call and also to answeranother incoming phone call.To interact with Blue&Me™you can useeither buttons on the steering wheel andvoice commands. With voice recognition,you can perform system function byspeaking voice commands, also identifiedas “keywords”. When the system recog-nizes a keyword, it will respond with theappropriate action. Voice recognition is aneasy and convenient way to useBlue&Me™.All the system functions are available with-in the Blue&Me™Main Menu. When thecar is not moving, you can surf through themenu using either buttons on the steeringwheel and voice commands. When youare travelling, you can interact withBlue&Me™using buttons on the steer-ing wheel or voice commands relevant on-ly to phone functions (LAST CALLS andPHONEBOOK) and media player. Toactivate settings when travelling you canonly use voice commands.The hands-free kit enables the followingoperations:❒Contact calling by voice - you can calla contact in your mobile phone phone-book using your voice. You can also calla contact in your phonebook by scan-ning through the entries on the multi-function display.(To use this option you have to transferyour mobile phone contacts to the hands-free kit phonebook).❒Digit-dialling by voice - you can dial aphone number by speaking the digits tobe dialled.❒To call the SMS text sender - call di-rectly the last SMS text sender or thesender of a message received and storedyet in the Blue&Me™inbox.❒To answer a call - you can answer anincoming call by pressing the keyß/MAIN on the steering wheel.❒Conference Call - you can call anoth-er contact while you are engaged in aphone conversation (with Bluetooth®phones supporting this option)❒Call waiting - while engaged in a phoneconversation, you can receive notifica-tion of another incoming phone call, an-swer the other incoming phone call, andswitch between two ongoing phone con-versations. (Call waiting is only support-ed by a subset of compatible mobilephones).
5After you place your mobile phone in thecar environment and create a pairing rela-tionship with Blue&Me™, you can makephone calls by speaking keywords or press-ing buttons on the steering wheel. Whenusing the hands-free phone, the audio out-put of a phone conversation is heardthrough your car sound speakers.MESSAGE READERThe Blue&Me™ message reader enablesautomatic reading, through the car soundsystem, of the SMS texts you receive onyour  Bluetooth®wireless technologymobile phone. The message reader will al-so interpret any abbreviation and emoti-con contained in the SMS text.Message reader functions are managed bythe control buttons on the steering wheelor by the Blue&Me™ voice commands.The Blue&Me™ message reader enablesthe following operations: ❒ To display on the instrument panelmultifunction display a visual notifi-cation signal indicating that you havereceived a new SMS text on yourBluetooth®wireless technologymobile phone, with sender’s num-ber/name; Blue&Me™ will also pro-pose you to read the message received❒ To manage the list of SMS texts re-ceived on your  Blue&Me™ pairedmobile phone❒ To read again the messages receivedand stored ❒ To call the SMS text sender using thebuttons on the steering wheel or voicecommands❒ To delete individual messages or theentire inbox using the buttons on thesteering wheel or voice commands.The Blue&Me™ system can also recog-nize and read abbreviations, if any (e.g.“ILUVU” will be read like “I love you”) andinterpret the most usual emoticons (e.g.:-) will be read like “Smile”), adoptednowadays to write SMS texts.
6MEDIA PLAYERWith the Blue&Me™ media player youcan play, via the car sound system, the dig-ital audio files stored on a USB device bysimply connecting it to the USB port lo-cated in the car.In this way, while you are driving you canplay your favourite personal music collec-tions.❒iPod™ player - see dedicated para-graph.The media player enables the following op-erations:❒Digital audio playback - you can playall your digital audio files (.mp3, .wma,.wav, .aac) or play a customized playlist(.m3u or .wpl format). ❒Audio file selection by category -you can play all audio files of a certaincategory, e.g.: album, artist or genre.❒Playback options - while playing tracksyou can select the following options: Play,Stop, Next track, Previous track, Shuffle andLoop track.NoteThe media player does not support audiofiles compressed with other formats andDRM (Digital Right Management) pro-tected audio files. Non-supported audiofiles that may be present on the USB de-vice will be ignored.To use the media player, you have to sim-ply connect (directly or by an extensionlead) your USB device to the car USBport. Turning the ignition key to MAR,Blue&Me™ will start building your me-dia library. At the end of this operationyou can surf the whole library and scrollits categories as required using the but-tons on the steering wheel or voice com-mands. Blue&Me™ will then play yourselection via the car sound system.
7ROAD SAFETYRead and Follow Instructions: before using your system, read and follow all instructions and safety information provided in thisend user manual (“User’s Guide”). Not following precautions found in this User’s Guide can lead to an accident or other serious con-sequences.Keep User’s Guide in the car: when kept in the car, the User’s Guide will be a ready reference for you and other users unfamiliar with thesystem. Please make certain that before using the system for the first time, all persons have access to the User’s Guide and read its instructionsand safety information carefully.WARNING: Operating certain parts of this system while driving can distract your attention away from the road, and possiblycause an accident or other serious consequences. Do not change system settings or enter data non-verbally (using yourhands) while driving. Stop the car in a safe and legal manner before attempting these operations. This is important sincewhile setting up or changing some functions you might be required to distract your attention away from the road and re-move your hands from the wheel.GENERAL OPERATIONVoice Command Control: functions within the system may be accomplished using only voice commands. Using voice commands while dri-ving allows you to operate the system without removing your hands from the wheel.Prolonged Views of Screen: do not access any function requiring a prolonged view of the screen while you are driving. Pull over in a safeand legal manner before attempting to access a function of the system requiring prolonged attention. Even occasional short scans to the screenmay be hazardous if your attention has been diverted away from your driving task at a critical time.Volume Setting: do not raise the volume excessively. Keep the volume at a level where you can still hear outside traffic and emergency sig-nals while driving. Driving while unable to hear these sounds could cause an accident.Use of Speech Recognition Functions: speech recognition software is inherently a statistical process which is subject to errors. It is yourresponsibility to monitor any speech recognition functions included in the system and address any errors.Distraction Hazard: any features may require manual (non-verbal) setup. Attempting to perform such set-up or insert data while driving canseriously distract your attention and could cause an accident or other serious consequences. Stop the vehicle in a safe and legal manner beforeattempting these operations.WARNINGOperating certain parts of this system while driving can distract your attention away from the road, and possi-bly cause an accident or other serious consequences; for this reason certain functions shall only be used whendriving conditions are secure and, if required, only when the car is stopped.WARNING

For further details,consult your mobile phone owner’s man-ual.To enter properly contacts in your mo-bile phone phonebook, refer to sectionSETTING FUNCTIONS - PAIRINGYOUR MOBILE PHONE.IMPORTANT NOTES❒The phonebook copied to Blue&Me™can only be used when the corre-sponding mobile phone is paired.❒Entries stored in SIM card or mobilephone memory can be transferred toBlue&Me™ with different proce-dures, according to your mobile phonemodel.
11TRY OUT THE VOICECOMMANDSAt each stage of your dialogue with thesystem, you can always use the voice com-mand “Help”, to get detailed indicationsabout the voice commands available at thecurrent dialogue stage.To try out the “Help” function, proceedas follows:❒Press the steering wheel button ‘. ❒After Blue&Me™ plays a tone indi-cating that voice recognition is active,pronounce “Help”. Blue&Me™ willspeak the list of voice commands avail-able.❒After the general help message is fin-ished, pronounce “Settings” and then“Help”. Blue&Me™ will speak againthe list of voice commands available forthe SETTINGS menu.❒You can then pronounce one of theavailable commands and proceed withthe dialogue as you like.❒If you need further help, press ‘andpronounce again “Help”.PAIR YOUR MOBILE PHONEIMPORTANT Carry out this operationonly with the car stopped.To pair your mobile phone, proceed asfollows:❒Press ‘and pronounce “Settings”then, at the end of the Blue&Me™message say “Pairing”.❒The system will show the phone pair-ing PIN number on the multifunctiondisplay. For the next two steps, consultyour mobile phone owner’s manualabout Bluetooth®pairing. ❒On your mobile phone, query for de-vices equipped with Bluetooth®wire-less technology (the setting on yourmobile phone might be called Discoveror New Device). In this list you will find“Blue&Me” (name identifying theBlue&Me™system on your car): se-lect it.❒When prompted by the mobile phone,enter the PIN number shown on the in-strument panel display using your mo-bile phone keypad. If pairing is success-ful, the system will say “Connecting”and at the end the display will show asconfirmation message, the ID of thepaired mobile phone.It is essential to wait until you see this con-firmation message on the display. Pressingß/MAIN or &/ESC before the messageis displayed may cancel the pairing process.If the pairing process fails, an error mes-sage will be displayed: in this event repeatthe pairing procedure.❒At first pairing, Blue&Me™ will say“Welcome” immediately after connect-ing. This message will no longer be heardat next pairing procedures.
12❒Blue&Me™ will ask if you would liketo copy your paired phone phonebookto Blue&Me™. It is recommended tocopy it. To start copying the phonebooksay “Yes”, otherwise say “No”.❒For certain mobile phones the phone-book is not copied automatically, in thiscase you must transfer the phonebookcontacts using your mobile phone key-pad. If Blue&Me™ asks you to do this,then perform this procedure followingthe instructions specific to your mobilephone and press ß/MAIN when youhave finished. MAKING A PHONE CALLAssume that “John” is one of the contactsstored in your phonebook. To call John, proceed as follows:❒Press the steering wheel button ‘andpronounce “Call John”. ❒If the name is recognized, the systemwill display the recognized contact’s in-formation on the display screen.If there is just one phone number for Johnin your phonebook, the system will ask ifyou would like to call John. To start thecall say “Yes”, otherwise say “No”.If John has several phone numbers, thesystem will ask which phone number youwould like to call (e.g.: “Call John (at)Work or (at) Home?”). Answer withthe type of required phone number (e.g.:“(at) Home”). If John has several phone numbers but the“location” (i.e.: the type of phone numberlike work, home, etc.) is missing, the sys-tem will display the selected contact anda list of related phone numbers. Thehands-free phone system will ask if youwould like to call the phone number dis-played. To respond with “yes”, pronounce“Yes”, otherwise pronounce “No”. If thisis the correct contact but the wrong num-ber, say “Forward” or “Backward” tonavigate to the phone number you’d liketo call. To call the displayed phone num-ber, pronounce “Call”. You can also surfthe phone number list manually by press-ing the buttons on the steering wheel Nor Ountil you find the required number.Now, press ß/MAIN or SRC/OK tostart the call. ❒To end the phone call, press ß/MAINfor longer than 1 second.If you encounter difficulties with any ofthe voice recognition operations, consultsection HANDS-FREE KIT - TROU-BLESHOOTING.

Building the li-brary may require a few minutes if yourUSB device contains several files.❒iPod™ player - see dedicated para-graph.
14❒You can also decide whether to play au-dio files automatically when connectingthe USB device or to play them uponyour command.For further details on media player, referto section MEDIA PLAYER FUNCTIONS.If you encounter difficulties with any ofthe voice recognition operations, consultsection MEDIA PLAYER - TROU-BLESHOOTING.HOW TO USEBlue&Me™CONTROLS STEERING WHEELButtons on the steering wheel (see fig. 1)are used to perform functions on thehands-free kit, activating voice recognition,using the media player functions or select-ing a Blue&Me™ menu option.Certain buttons have multiple functionswhich depend on the current state of thesystem.The function chosen in response to a keypress is in some cases controlled by theduration of the key press (short or long).For further information read chapterDISPLAY AND BUTTONS ON THESTEERING WHEEL.NoteInstructions concerning manual controlsare identified in the text by symbol ?.VOICE COMMANDSVoice commands can be pronounced bythe driver, which does not need to changehis/her normal driving position to be heardby the system, since the microphone isproperly located and oriented to this pur-pose.Voice commands, which are words rec-ognized by the system, are identified as“keywords”. The hands-free phone system recognizesand responds to a preset list of voice com-mands. The list of available voice com-mands depends on the keyword level thatyou are currently on. The current list is al-ways available by pressing ‘and pro-nouncing “Help” or, pronouncing “Help”after whichever question of the system.Blue&Me™ also recognizes personalizedversions of voice commands like the nameof a contact in your phonebook.There is no voice training required for us-ing voice commands with this system.
15To issue a voice command to the system,press ‘and wait for the tone indicatingthat voice recognition is active. Then,speak the command in your natural voiceat a moderate pace. When the system rec-ognizes the command, it will acknowledgeyour command by speaking a response oracting on your command.Voice commands are organized accordingto three increasing levels: 1st level, 2nd lev-el and 3rd level. When a valid* 1st level keyword is pro-nounced, the system will activate 2nd lev-el keywords; when a valid 2nd level key-word is pronounced, the system will ac-tivate 3rd level keywords. If the user pronounces a valid 1st level key-word, then the submenu relevant to thatcommand will remain active until a key-word leading to another level is given orthe interaction is interrupted; the samerule applies for the other lower levels (2ndand 3rd level). For the list of available keywords, re-fer to section VOICE COMMANDS(KEYWORDS) - SUMMARY.To repeat the last system voice an-nouncement, press ‘for longer than 1second or press shortly ‘and pro-nounce “Repeat”. The system can issue voice announce-ments. A voice announcement is a spokenmessage initiated by the system. To can-cel a voice announcement, press &/ESC,or press ‘and pronounce “Cancel”. A voice interaction is a two-way commu-nication/spoken exchange between systemand user. To initiate a voice interaction,press ‘and issue a command. To inter-rupt a conversation and start a new one,press ‘at any time during the conver-sation and pronounce a vocal command.   To stop an ongoing interaction press&/ESC. You will hear a tone indicatingwhen voice recognition is deactivated.The hands-free kit help option can speakthe list of commands available to you atany time, depending on the keyword lev-el that you are currently on. To use thehelp system, say “Help Listen to the listof currently available commands and de-cide on which command you’d like to is-sue to the system.Adjust the volume of phone calls to a lev-el that is comfortable and safe while thecar is in motion. To adjust the default vol-ume of Blue&Me™, see paragraph “EX-TERNAL AUDIO VOL function” in thesound system owner handbook. To tem-porarily adjust the volume of the currentphone call, press +or –or adjust the po-sition of the radio knob. After the phonecall is disconnected, the volume will revertback to the original level. You can press +or –also to adjust thevolume of the current Blue&Me™ voiceannouncement.Please remember that to interrupt a voiceannouncement, you can always press ‘at any time during a voice interaction andgive a new voice command.* Valid means that the keyword pronounced is included in the Blue&Me™ “dictionary” and that can therefore be recognized bythe system for the concerned level.

If there is a large amount of entriesin your phonebook, then the items willbe contained in groups within alpha-betical submenus indicating the contactswithin that group. The number of con-tacts within a group depends on theamount of entries in your phonebook.❒MESSAGE READER - This submenuenables to read the last message re-ceived, to call the message sender or todelete the last message received. 21The system will start the call to thedisplayed phone number.To end the phone call, pressß/MAIN for longer than 1 second. You can pronounce the sequence ofphone number digits in “digitgroups” which allows you to verifythe recognized number in severalsmall portions. Digit groups are cre-ated by the pauses you use whilepronouncing the sequence of digits.If you pause after pronouncing sev-eral digits, a digit group is created.The system will repeat the recog-nized digits. If the spoken digits are correct, youcan continue pronouncing the phonenumber. If the spoken digits are in-correct, you can delete the digitgroup by pronouncing “Delete”.The system will delete the last groupof numbers and display the partially-dialled phone number. Then, you canre-pronounce the digit group and al-so the remaining phone number dig-its. To cancel the phone call, pronounce“Cancel”.To cancel the phone call and startdialling again, pronounce “Startover”.To ask the system to repeat the rec-ognized phone number, pronounce“Repeat”. If no phone number wasdialled, the system says “No num-ber available”.If the repeated phone number iscorrect, pronounce “Dial” to startthe call. NoteWhen dialling a phone number by voicecommands, it is essential to minimizebackground noise in the car and to ask theother passengers to keep silent while youare speaking digits. Since the system is ofthe speaker independent type it can rec-ognize also other voices; there is there-fore the risk that some numbers are ac-cidentally recognized, added to correctnumbers or not recognized.Dialling a phone number usingthe mobile phone keypad?Alternatively, you can dial a phonenumber using your mobile phonekeypad and then continue your con-versation using the hands-freephone system. The system will switchto the incoming phone call and put thecurrent phone conversation on hold.Note Certain mobile phones support the abili-ty to transmit your contacts’ ring tones tothe hands-free phone system and play cus-tomized ring tones for incoming phonecalls. In this case the incoming phone callswill have your mobile phone customizedring tones.MANAGING PHONE CALLSTransferring a phone conversation from your mobile phone to thehands-free phone systemIf you enter the car during a phone con-versation from your mobile phone and youwant to continue the conversation usingthe car hands-free phone system, you cantransfer the phone conversation to it.Proceed as follows:❒Get into he car and turn the ignitionkey to MAR, to activate the hands-freephone system.❒The system will send a message to yourmobile phone offering hands-freephone support.❒To transfer the conversation to thehands-free phone, enter the informa-tion required by your mobile phone.(This process is different for each mo-bile phone).❒The phone conversation is transferredto the system. Such software products, as well as associated media, printed materials, and “on-line” or electronic documentation (“SOFTWARE”) are protected by international intellectual property laws and treaties. The SOFT-WARE is licensed, not sold. All rights reserved.– IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THIS END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (“EULA”), DO NOT USE THE DEVICE OR COPYTHE SOFTWARE. 73– Single EULA. The end user documentation for the DEVICE may contain multiple versions of this EULA, such as multiple trans-lations and/or multiple media versions (e.g., in the user documentation and in the software).  Even if you receive multiple versionsof the EULA, you are licensed to use only one (1) copy of the SOFTWARE. – No Rental. Except as authorized by Fiat Auto S.p.A., you may not rent, lease, or lend the SOFTWARE.– SOFTWARE Transfer. You may permanently transfer all of your rights under this EULA only as part of a sale or transfer ofthe DEVICE, provided you retain no copies, you transfer all of the SOFTWARE (including all component parts, the media and print-ed materials, any upgrades, this EULA and, if applicable, the Certificate(s) of Authenticity), and the recipient agrees to the termsof this EULA.  If the SOFTWARE is an upgrade, any transfer must include all prior versions of the SOFTWARE.– Termination. Without prejudice to any other rights, Fiat Auto S.p.A. or Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers may terminatethis EULA if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA.  In such event, you must destroy all copies of the SOFT-WARE and all of its component parts.– Consent to Use of Data. You agree that Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates and/or their designated agent maycollect and use technical information gathered in any manner as part of product support services related to the SOFTWARE.  Fi-at Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates and/or their designated agent may use this information solely to improve theirproducts or to provide customized services or technologies to you.  Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates and/ortheir designated agent may disclose this information to others, but not in a form that personally identifies you.– Internet-Based Services Components. The SOFTWARE may contain components that enable and facilitate the use of cer-tain Internet-based services.  You acknowledge and agree that Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates and/or their des-ignated agent may automatically check the version of the SOFTWARE and/or its components that you are utilizing and may pro-vide upgrades or supplements to the SOFTWARE that may be automatically downloaded to your DEVICE.
74– Additional Software/Services. The SOFTWARE may permit Fiat Auto S.p.A., Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affil-iates and/or their designated agent to provide or make available to you SOFTWARE updates, supplements, add-on components,or Internet-based services components of the SOFTWARE after the date you obtain your initial copy of the SOFTWARE (“Sup-plemental Components”).– If Fiat Auto S.p.A. provides or makes available to you Supplemental Components and no other EULA terms are provided alongwith the Supplemental Components, then the terms of this EULA shall apply.– If Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates and/or their designated agent make available Supplemental Components,and no other EULA terms are provided, then the terms of this EULA shall apply, except that the Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s SoftwareSuppliers or affiliate entity providing the Supplemental Component(s) shall be the licensor of the Supplemental Component(s).– Fiat Auto S.p.A., Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates and/or their designated agent reserve the right to discon-tinue any Internet-based services provided to you or made available to you through the use of the SOFTWARE.– Links to Third Party Sites. If the SOFTWARE provideslinks to third party sites, those links are provided to you only as a convenience, and the inclusion of any link does not imply anendorsement of the third party site by Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates and/or their designated agent.UPGRADES AND RECOVERY MEDIA– If the SOFTWARE is provided by Fiat Auto S.p.A. separate from the DEVICE on media such as a ROM chip, CD ROM disk(s) orvia web download or other means, and is labeled “For Upgrade Purposes Only” you may install one (1) copy of such SOFT-WARE onto the DEVICE as a replacement copy for the existing SOFTWARE, and use it in accordance with this EULA, includingany additional EULA terms accompanying the upgrade SOFTWARE.
75INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS All title and intellectual property rights in and to the SOFTWARE (including but not limited to any images, photographs, anima-tions, video, audio, music, text and “applets,” incorporated into the SOFTWARE), the accompanying printed materials, and any copiesof the SOFTWARE, are owned by Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates or suppliers. The SOFTWARE is licensed,not sold.  You may not copy the printed materials accompanying the SOFTWARE.  All title and intellectual property rights in andto the content which may be accessed through use of the SOFTWARE is the property of the respective content owner and may beprotected by applicable copyright or other intellectual property laws and treaties.  This EULA grants you no rights to use such con-tent.  All rights not specifically granted under this EULA are reserved by Fiat Auto S.p.A.’s Software Suppliers, their affiliates andsuppliers. Use of any on-line services which may be accessed through the SOFTWARE may be governed by the respective terms ofuse relating to such services.  If this SOFTWARE contains documentation that is provided only in electronic form, you may printone copy of such electronic documentation.EXPORT RESTRICTIONSYou acknowledge that the SOFTWARE is subject to U.S. and European Union export jurisdiction.
