8. USER OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS (DRAFT) Operation instructions for this system, named NATS (Nissan Anti—Theft System), is contained in the user manual of the vehicle, from which the portions related to NATS are transcibed below. KEX Only the key of the Nissan Anti—Theft System can drive your vehicle. A key number is necessary if you require extra keys. The new key must be registered to the NATS components of your vehicle. At this time, you are required to bring all the keys that you have to NISSAN dealer. This is because the registration process will erase all memory of the NATS components. When failing to start the engine first— time using the key of NATS, start as follows. (1) Leave the ignition key in ON position for approximately five seconds. (2) Turn the ignition key to OFF position. (3) Wait for approximately five seconds. (4) Turn the ignition key to START position again while keeping the key apart from any others on key chain. INDICATOR LIGHT [E Malfunction indicator light This light functions as both the NATS warning light and the malfunction indicator light. NATS warning light: i If this light blinks while the ignition switch is ON, it indicates that NA’IS is not functioning In this case, see your NISSAN dealer for NATS service as soon as possible. You are requested to bring all the keys that you have to your NISSAN dealer for service. Malfunction indicator light: If this light comes on while the engine is running, it may indicate a potential emission control problem Although the vehicle is still drivable, see your NISSAN dealer for service as soon as possible.
