Lock Unlock Trunk Panic Alarm Driver’s Door Request Switch Advanced Key Features • D river’s Door Handle: To unlock only the driver’s door, gently grasp and pull the door handle after the beep is heard. The sensor on the back side of the door handle will sense the motion of your hand and unlock Sensor (back of handle) the door. NOTE: If the door handle is pulled too quickly (before door is unlocked), the door may not open. Pull the door handle again to open. • To unlock all doors from the driver’s door, use the inner door lock switch after opening the door OR push the unlock button on the Trunk Request Switch advanced keyless entry transmitter twice. • Passenger’s Door Handle: To unlock all doors, gently grasp and pull the door handle. • To lock all the doors, simply push the Driver’s Door Request Switch. NOTE: To avoid unintentionally unlocking the doors (if confirming doors are locked by pulling door handle), they cannot be unlocked for about 3 seconds after they are locked, even if the door handle (sensor) is grasped. • To unlock/open the trunk, push the Trunk Request Switch. Please refer to your Owner’s Manual for complete details. KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM 1 This system remotely locks/unlocks doors and opens trunk lid, power windows and moonroof. • To extend the key, push the release button. • To retract the key, push the release button and fold the key back into the holder. 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 2 Release Button Lock Unlock Trunk Panic Alarm 11/21/08 3:19:02 PM e Starting the engine with the Advanced Key With the Advanced Key on you… • Start the engine by pushing the Start button while pushing the clutch pedal (manual transmission) or the brake pedal (automatic transmission). Shut the engine OFF by pushing the Start button again. • To activate Accessories (ACC), push the Start button once without pushing the clutch or brake pedal. will show green when the advanced key • T he key indicator light is detected and the brake pedal is pushed. The engine is ready to start. The indicator flashes red (for 3 seconds) when the key is not detected or if the advanced keyless transmitter battery is dead. If illuminated red, the push button start may not start the engine, unless the auxiliary key is used (see “Emergency Vehicle Entry/Engine Start”). Indicator Light NOTE: • Before engine starts (while clutch or brake is pushed), the Start button indicator light is green when engine is ready to start, red when system detects a failure (engine may not start), or flashing red (manual transmission only) requires pushing and holding Start button to start the engine. • Emergency Engine Stop Continuously pushing the Start button while the engine is running will turn the engine OFF. Use only in case of an emergency. • Emergency Vehicle Entry/Engine Start In case the Start button does not work (e.g., advanced keyless transmitter battery is dead), locate the emergency key slot cover on the steering column, remove the cover and insert the auxiliary key into the key slot, then push the Start button to start the engine. 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 3 2 11/21/08 3:19:06 PM Seats ELECTRONICALLY OPERATED driver SEAT W/MEMORY Slide/Tilt Switch Recline Switch Push forward or backward to slide seat bottom. Seat can also be raised, lowered or tilted with this control. Push forward or backward to adjust seatback angle. Lumbar Adjustment Rotate clockwise to increase support and counterclockwise to decrease support. Memory Seat Switch To Program the Driver’s Seat Position: 1 Park vehicle. 2 Adjust seat to desired position using the Slide/Tilt and Recline switches. 3 While pushing the memory seat SET button, push one of the three programming buttons until beep is heard. Programming is now complete. Program the remaining two buttons as desired. To return to the programmed position: • When entering the vehicle with the door open and the ignition OFF, the seat will move to the programmed position with one touch of the button (1, 2 or 3). • In all other situations (door closed or engine running), you must push and hold the button (1, 2 or 3) to move the seat to the programmed position. NOTE: • Memory seat functions do not operate while the vehicle is in motion. 3 • You can also program one seat position for each advanced key/retractable type key used with the vehicle. See Owner’s Manual for programming instructions. 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 4 11/21/08 3:19:25 PM Auto-Dimming MirrorS and HomeLink® HomeLink® Indicator Light Auto-Dimming On and Off Light Sensor Auto-Dimming Mirrors • Auto-Dimming automatically darkens your rear view mirror and both outside door mirrors to reduce headlight glare from the vehicles behind you. • Auto-Dimming is activated every time the vehicle is started. NOTE: door mirrors will appear to have a halo, or ring around the outer edge of the • Both mirror surface. This is actually the electrical circuitry that allows the mirrors to dim. With the headlight switch in AUTO and the ignition ON, the light sensor determines the surrounding lightness or darkness and automatically turns the headlights, other exterior lights and dashboard illumination on or off. • Rotate the outer knob up to the second position for tail, parking and dashboard lights. • Rotate the outer knob up to the third position for tail, parking, dashboard, and headlights. • Rotate the inner ring up for fog lamps. • Push the lever away from you to turn the high beams on. • Pull the lever all the way back and release to flash the high beams. Outer Knob Fog Lamps Inner Ring PORTABLE AUDIO PLAYER INTEGRATION USING THE AUX JACK Your vehicle is equipped with an AUX or auxiliary jack that will allow you to play your portable audio player through the vehicle’s audio system. 1 Locate the AUX jack inside the center console. 2 Plug your portable audio player into the AUX jack and turn it on. 3 Turn the vehicle audio system on. 4 • Without Navigation System: Push AUX button on audio system OR push Mode button on steering wheel controls until “AUX” is displayed. • With Navigation System: Push Source button on audio system, then push AUX1 on screen OR push Mode button on steering wheel controls until “AUX1” is displayed. 5 Use the portable audio player controls to play music. 9 NOTE: Set the volume level on your portable audio player to the highest level before distortion starts. Then, adjust volume in the vehicle using the audio system power/volume control or the steering wheel volume up and down controls. 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 10 11/21/08 3:20:41 PM WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER CONTROL LEVER • MIST-Push lever up for a single swipe to clear mist. • A UTO-With the windshield wiper lever in the AUTO position, the rain sensor senses the amount of rainfall and turns the wiper on or off automatically. Rotate inner ring away from you (clockwise) for less sensitivity and toward you (counterclockwise) for more sensitivity. NOTE: Vehicles not equipped with AUTO wipers will have intermittent (INT) wipers. • LO-Push down to second position for low speed wiper operation. • HI-Push down to third position for high speed wiper operation. • Pulling lever toward you will dispense washer fluid and the wipers will make several passes across windshield. Fuel Door To avoid scratching the paint during refueling, secure the fuel filler cap tether over the hook as shown. 10 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 11 11/21/08 3:21:00 PM Feature Highlights Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) System The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) system is designed to assist the driver by monitoring the blind spots to the rear of the vehicle on both sides. • If your vehicle speed is 20 mph (32 km/h) or more, the BSM will warn you of vehicles in the detection area by illuminating the BSM warning lights located on the left and right door mirrors. • If you operate a turn signal in the direction of an illuminated BSM warning light, the system will also warn you with a beep and warning light flash. • BSM sensors are located under the left and right rear bumper areas. The BSM system may not operate properly if the rear bumper gets too dirty, so keep the rear bumper area clean. Please refer to your Owner’s Manual for complete details. Turning BSM System Off: To manually turn the BSM system off/on, push the BSM switch. The BSM indicator will illuminate in the instrument cluster when the BSM system is off. The BSM system will automatically turn on the next time the vehicle is started. Your Vehicle Detection Areas NOTE: Do not rely completely on the BSM system and be sure to look over 11 your shoulder before changing lanes: • The BSM system can assist the driver in confirming the safety of the surroundings, but is not a complete substitute. • The driver is responsible for assuring lane changes and other maneuvers. • Always pay attention to the direction in which the vehicle is traveling and the vehicle’s surroundings. • The BSM system does not operate when the vehicle speed is lower than about 20 mph (32 km/h). 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 12 11/21/08 3:21:22 PM Sport AT Manual Shift Mode The Sport AT Manual Shift Mode gives you the feel of driving a manual transmission by allowing you to manually shift to control engine rpm and torque when more control is desired. To Use Manual Shift Mode: • Shift lever from D to M. NOTE: Changing to manual mode can be done while driving the vehicle. To Shift Up To A Higher Gear: • Tap shift lever back (+) once. To Shift Down To A Lower Gear: • Tap shift lever forward (-) once. 6-Speed Manual Transmission • Push the clutch pedal down completely to start the engine and to shift gears. • To place the transmission in Reverse, place shifter Neutral Position in the neutral position, push the shifter down, move to the left and push forward. NOTE: Do not shift into 1st gear above 20 mph or clutch failure could occur. Resting your foot on the clutch pedal while driving and using the clutch to hold your vehicle at a standstill while waiting on a hill may reduce clutch life. 12 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 13 11/21/08 3:21:46 PM Manual Climate Control Temperature Control Dial • Push to turn Air Conditioning system ON and OFF. • Rotate dial to desired air temperature. Fan Control Dial • Rotate dial to desired fan speed (1-4). Push to recirculate cabin air, reduce exhaust odors and increase cooling. Mode Selector Dial • Rotate dial to select airflow mode. ashboard D vents ashboard and D floor vents Floor vents efroster and D floor vents indshield W Defroster Push to defrost rear window NOTE: Applies to Manual and Automatic Climate Control Systems: With any type of defroster operation (even in the FLOOR mode where some air goes to defrost to keep the windows defrosted), the system turns on the A/C compressor and selects the FRESH AIR mode. This helps defrost the windows more efficiently by dehumidifying the air. The A/C compressor will always be on in defroster mode, but the defroster (and floor) will deliver warm air when the temperature dial is set to a warmer temperature and the engine warms up. 13 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 14 11/21/08 3:21:54 PM Automatic Climate Control Driver side temperature setting Driver Temperature Control Dial • Push AUTO ON to turn Automatic Air Conditioning system ON. • Rotate dial to desired air temperature (shown in Information Display above). NOTE: Rotating Fan control dial or pushing the MODE button while in AUTO ON mode will cancel auto A/C. Push to defrost windshield. Push to defrost rear window. Push to recirculate cabin air and reduce outside exhaust, odors and improve cooling. Push for fresh air circulation. • Push and rotate to activate. • Rotate dial to desired passenger side air temperature (shown in Information Display above). Push to select the desired airflow mode. Push to manually turn air conditioning on or off. Interconnection Mode: Push DUAL switch to change between individual (driver and passenger) operation and interconnection modes. Indicator Light ON - Passenger independently controls passenger side temperature setting. Push the LOAD button. 2. After “IN” is displayed on the Information Display, insert the CD. Audio System ON • Push POWER/VOLUME to turn the radio on. Media Selection • AM, FM, CD, SAT (SIRIUS™ Satellite radio), AUX (to switch to AUX jack input and Bluetooth® streaming audio if equipped). NOTE: If the FM broadcast signal becomes weak, reception automatically changes from STEREO to MONO for reduced noise, and the “ST” indicator will go out. SAT: SIRIUS™ Satellite radio will deliver the broadest, deepest mix of radio entertainment. See Owner’s Manual for more details. Tuning The radio has the following tuning controls: • Manual • Track/Seek • Scan • Preset channel • Auto memory tuning Manual Tuning • Turning the TUNE dial will change the frequency higher or lower. P ush and hold the H (hours) button to the correct hour. 2. P ush and hold the M (minutes) button to the correct minute. NOTE: Push the :00 button to zero out the minutes. Scan Tuning • Push the scan button to automatically sample strong stations. • To hold a station, push the scan button again during this interval. Preset Channel Tuning The 6 preset channels can be used to store 6 AM and 12 FM stations. • To set a channel first select AM, FM1, or FM2. • Tune to the desired station. • Push a channel preset button for about 2 seconds until a beep is heard. • Repeat this operation for the other stations and bands you want to store. Auto-Memory Tuning When driving in an area where the local stations are not known, additional AM/FM stations can be stored without disturbing the previously set channels. Push the LOAD on-screen button lightly. 3. Wait for the screen to lower. 4. After “IN” is displayed on the Information Display, insert the CD. The CD will begin playing after the screen closes. Audio System ON • Push POWER/VOLUME on. • Push SOURCE button. Media Selection • AM, FM, DISC, SAT (SIRIUS™ Satellite radio), AUX (to switch to AUX jack input and Bluetooth® streaming audio if equipped). Tuning • T he radio has the following tuning methods: Manual, Seek, Scan, Auto Memory tuning, and Preset channel. Manual Tuning • Turning the TUNE AUDIO dial will change the frequency higher or lower. 17 Seek/Track Tuning • Pushing and holding the SEEK/TRACK buttons 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 18 will cause the tuner to automatically seek a higher or lower frequency or track depending on media selected. NOTE: If you continue to push and hold the button, the frequency will continue changing without stopping. Scan Tuning • Push the SCAN button to automatically sample strong stations. • To hold a station, push the SCAN button again during this interval. Auto-Memory Tuning When driving in an area where the local stations are not known, additional AM/FM stations can be stored without disturbing the previously set channels. Refer to your Owner’s Manual for complete details. 11/21/08 3:22:39 PM Preset Channel Tuning The 8 preset channels can be used to store 8 AM, 16 FM stations and 24 SIRIUS™ Satellite radio stations (if equipped). • To set a channel first select AM, FM1, FM2, SAT1, SAT2 or SAT3. Tune to the desired station. • Push the TUNE AUDIO dial. • Select any channel preset on-screen button for about 2 seconds until a beep is heard. The selected preset channel number and station frequency will be displayed and is now held in memory. • Repeat to store other stations. Push the MENU button. 2. Select the Set Clock tab. 3. Choose a 24-hour display or a 12-hour display. 4. Use the + hour and - hour tabs to enter the correct hour. 5. Use the + min (minutes) and - min to set the correct minutes. 6. Exit by pushing the OK tab. NOTE: Minutes and seconds are adjusted by the GPS, however, it is necessary to adjust hours under the following conditions: • D riving across different time zones • Daylight saving time start and end 18 11/21/08 3:22:42 PM Navigation System Inserting the Map Disc: HAWAII Disc A DISC A PUERTO RICO HAWAII Disc B DISC B PUERTO RICO Insert Map Disc into lower DVD slot Your navigation system operates using the Map Discs supplied. • Disc A covers most of the Midwest and Western states including Hawaii and Alaska. • Disc B covers some of the Midwest and all of the Eastern states including Puerto Rico. • Both discs cover all of Canada. NOTE: If the state your address is in is not displayed when entering a destination, you may have the wrong disc in the navigation system. 19 1 Push LOAD / . 2 W hen “Load/Eject” screen appears select “MAP”. Wait for navigation screen to tilt open. 3 Insert the correct Map Disc with the printed side facing up, into the lower DVD MAP slot. 4 Read the Caution carefully and select the “Agree” on-screen button. 5 To remove the Map Disc, place the ignition in ACC or ON position. 6 Push LOAD / and then “MAP”. 189242_09c_Mazda6_SSG_112108.indd 20 11/21/08 3:22:55 PM Selecting a destination using a street address You can choose setting a destination using a street address, a point of interest, the nearest restaurants, ATMs, gas stations, hospitals and more. 1 Push “Menu” button on navigation face. 2 Select “Destination Entry”. 3 Select “Address”. 4 Select the “State” or “Province”. • Scroll down past the States to find Canadian Provinces. 5 Push “OK”. 6 Select “City”. 7 Select “Input City Name”. 8 Use the keyboard to enter the city name. 9 Select “Street”. 10 Use the keyboard to enter the street name. 11 Select “House No”. 12 Use the keyboard to enter the house number, then push “OK”. 13 When the map appears, push “Destination”. 14 Push “Guide” or just start driving. selecting a point of interest (POI) near your current location 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Push the “Menu” button on the navigation face. Select “Destination Entry”. Select “Point of Interest”. Select “Nearest”. Select “Current Position”. In the QUICK POI screen, select the category of the point of interest you want to find. You can set multiple categories for searching up to five. After selecting categories, push “List”. Search result shows up as a list in “LOCAL POIs” screen. Select the point of interest you want to set as the destination from the list. Push “Destination”. Push “Guide” or just start driving. NOTE: When entering numbers for a street name, (e.g., 1st Ave.), push “Sym.” button to switch to the numeric keyboard. Voice Pairing 1 P ush and release (wait for button on beep) the the steering wheel. 2 From main menu, say, “Setup, Pairing Options.” 3 Say, “Pair.” 4 Say a four-digit code (i.e., “1, 2, 3, 4”). 5 Place phone in discovery mode; if necessary, consult your phone’s manual or go to www.mazdausa.com/bluetooth. Select model, Bluetooth, and follow screen prompts. 6 After phone is recognized, you will be prompted to name the paired phone. 7 Pairing completed. Pairing with Navigation 1 P ush Source button next to Navigation screen. 2 Select BT-Audio on Navigation screen. 3 Select Settings. 4 Select Pair/Select Device. 5 Select Add New. 6 System will provide a four-digit code. 7 Use the four-digit code to begin the pairing procedure; if necessary, consult your phone’s manual or go to www.mazdausa.com/bluetooth. Select model, Bluetooth, and follow screen prompts. 8 Pairing completed. Please call 800-430-0153 for questions regarding Bluetooth® compatibility, phone pairing, or other phone related problems. To make or receive a hands-free call: 1 T o make a call, push . After the beep say, “Dial.” 2 Say the number you want dialed.
