Battery
~ Aher the (9 Volt) battery has been installed, the remote handset
is ready for operar'mn.
Remove the battery, it the remote handset will not be used for
more than one year.
changing the code
- The control Is radio frequency operated, A code (chosen from
among 4000 available codes) is preset tor all Mertik Maxltrol
valves, but can be changed it required (15 additional codes
available). Change DIP switch position (Illustration 4).
Then press the receiver's reset button until you hear a second
(longer) signal. When pressing the V button on the remote
handset in the following 20 sec., the receiver learns the new
code. When the receiver is placed in the heater. the surrounding
metal diminishes reception considerably. The position of the
antenna on the receiver also influences
reception (see "Instructions for
Installation and Operation e-FLAME
Remote Electronic Ignition System").

' To save battery power, press V to turn
main gas to pilot gas. Press OFF button
to shut off the device including pilot
flame. The heater can be shut on with
the ON/OFF switch located atthe valve. ,

STANDARD REMOTE HANDSET (Illustration 1 and 5)
Start Ignition
- Press buttons K and A simultaneously. A short acoustic signal
confirms the start sequence has begun. Furihershort acoustic signals
(0.2 sec, 1 Hz) indicate the ignition process until it is completed and
main gas llows. If pilot is alreadylit. motor will tum to ON position (max.
llame height) while buttons are pressed down.
- Press (A) to turn on the main burner and to increase the flame
height. Press (V) to decrease the flame height and to shut olfthe
main burner.

Setting the time
After connecting the battery or by simultaneously pressing A and
V the display will start to flash.
Press A to set the hour and V to set the minute.
Wait or press OFF to return to the manual mode.
Set the display (‘C/Z4h’F/12h)
Press OFF and V until display changes irom “F (and 12 hour
clock) to “C (and 24 hour clock) or vice versa,

Set the time
. After connecting the battery or by simultaneously pressing A
and V the display will start to flash. You are in the set mode.
. From SET mode press A to set the hour and V to set the
minute.
- Wait or press OFF to return to the manual mode.
Set the display (‘C/24h (—)°FI1Zh)
. Press OFF and V until display changes from ”F (and 12 hour
clock) to ”C (and 24 hour clock) or vice versa.

Pressing the SET button quickly changes the mode oi operation

Manual flame height adjustment (@ appears on display):
The MAN mode can be reached by pressing the A or theV
button. Press A to turn on the lire (main burner) or to increase
flame height. Press V to decrease flame or to go down to pilot.
A symbol indicating transmission appears on display. The
receiver acknowledges the transmission with an acoustic
signal.
The day time temperature mode ( in? appears on display):
The sensor in the transmitter measures the room temperature.
The controller compares the room temperature with set
temperature and sends a signal to the receiver to turn the gas
valve motor up or down, to adjust the flame height accordingly.
The nighttime setback temperature ppears on display):
Like above there is a setting for nig e temperature control.
in this setting the room temperature is compared to the night
setback temperature, There is a bigger temperature differential
during this cycle (saves energy).
Timer: The timer mode (- appears on display) operates
much like the temperature mode above. There is a temperature
control feature like in the setting and the same in
setting. The timer setting allows you to set specific times tor cm
and oft. (There are 2 burner on and 2 burner off cycles every 24
hrs.) It the setting of is , the motor will turn the valve
to the standby pilot pos on and await the next burner .,on" cycle.
The display shows the setting tempemture every 30 seconds.
Setting the temperature
- Select the desired mode of operation (- or @) by
pressing the SET button briefly.
Hold the SET button until the display flashes.
. Set the temperature with A or V (40°F is the minimum
temperature).
. Wait or press OFF to go to temperature control mode.
It the temperature control in moon times should be ofl (lower
battery consumption), decrease the night temperature until
E] appears on display.
Set the timer
. Switch to timer mode by pressing the set button briefly.
. Press the SET button til flashes.
Set the hours with A and minutes with 7.
Press SET briefly for the next burner cycle time.
if all 4 times are set. pressing the OFF button or waiting will
complete the programming.
