1IntroductionUB11B (MS-6823) - Wireless 11b USB AdapterUB11B (MS-6823), compliant with IEEE802.11b, is ahigh-efficiency wireless adapter for wireless networkingat home, in office or in public places. This hot-plug,USB-interface adapter connects directly to any USB-ready desktop/notebook computers, so that you canshare files, printers, and high-speed access the Internetover your existing wireless network easily, withoutdisassembling your computer. The UB11B (MS-6823) has a data rate up to 11Mbps,and can auto-negotiate to 5.5, 2, 1Mbps to be compat-ible with any IEEE 802.11b device. The UB11B (MS-6823) is available to Microsoft Windowsoperating systems (Windows® XP/2000/ME/98SE) andcan be integrated into networking with either Ad-hocmode (computer-to-computer, without an Access Point)or Infrastructure mode (computer-to-access point, anAccess Point is required).>>> 1.1
2How UB11B (MS-6823) WorksAd-hoc Mode : An Ad-hoc network is a local area networkor other small network, especially one with wireless ortemporary plug-in connections, in which some of thenetwork devices are part of the network only for theduration of a communications session. Users in thenetwork can share files, print to a shared printer, andaccess the Internet with a shared modem. In this kind ofnetwork, new devices can be quickly added; however, users can only communicate with other wireless LANcomputers that are in this wireless LAN workgroup, andare within range.>>> 1.2(MS-6823)(MS-6823)
3Infrastructure Mode : The difference between Infrastruc-ture network and Ad-hoc network is that the former oneincludes an Access Point. In an Infrastructure network, the Access Point can manage the bandwidth to maximizebandwidth utilization. Additionally, the Access Pointenables users on a wireless LAN to access an existingwired network, allowing wireless users to take advantageof the wired networks resources, such as Internet, email, file transfer, and printer sharing. The scale and range ofthe Infrastructure network are larger and wider than thatof the Ad-hoc networking.(MS-6823)(MS-6823)
