Before connecting the RG54G toyour devices, please note that the it should be placed in alocation where is:   - Easy to access; so that you can convenientlyconnect it to the xDSL/Cable Modem through theWAN port, and to the computers/devices through theLAN ports.   - Allows you to observe the LEDs clearly; so that youmay monitor the real-time networking status andtake instant measures as problems arise.Connecting Cables  1. Plug the DC end of the power adapter into thepower connector of the RG54G (see page 7, Con-nections), and the AC end to the wall outlet later.  2. To connect the Internet, use the suitable cable toconnect the RG54G’s WAN port to your xDSL/CableModem.  3. For wired connection, connect your computers/devices to the LAN ports (1~4) on the RG54G (seepage 7, Connections).  4. For wireless connection, install the wireless adapt-ers onto your computers, and you have to configuresettings to take full advantages of the RG54G.Power UpWhen the DC end of the power cable is connected to theRG54G, plug the AC end to the wall outlet.  The RG54G ispowered up immediately.

Whenever you wantto configure the respective settings, open your webbrowser (e.g. Internet Explorer), and type the default IPaddress 192.168.1.254 in the Address bar and press[Enter].  Then, type admin in the User Name box andadmin in the Password box*, and click OK.*  admin is the defaultpassword of the wirelessgateway, and can bechanged in the Configu-ration Utility. Also, you will need to assign a fixed IPaddress to this computer within the IP address rangeof the RG54G.  For example, you can assign a fixed IPaddress of 192.168.1.253 with a Subnet Mask of255.255.255.0. If you uses the wireless gateway in thecountry adopting the Daylight Saving Time, please checkthe Daylight Saving option.Password SettingThe wireless gateway is shipped with default passwordadmin.  This option allows you to use other password toreplace the old password.  First, enter the old password,and then enter the new password twice to confirm thepassword changed. Click Browse to pointto the firmware file, and then click Upgrade to start.RestartYou may restart your gateway through the ConfigurationUtility without unplugging the power cable or pressing theReset button longer than 5 seconds.Factory DefaultYou may re-load the factory settings of your gateway.  Thisfunction is the same as pressing the Reset button longerthan 8 seconds.System StatusThis option contains detail information of your wirelessgateway, including general information and respectivenetwork settings.StatisticsThis option contains the statistics of your gateway, suchas respective networking statistics, allowing you tomonitor the device clearly.  Click Refresh to re-load thestatistics.Event LogYou can enable or disable logging function of yourgateway.  Once enabled, click View can bring up theSession Event Log window to display the log file.Click to view the logEnable this function

The wireless gateway can be connected to yourISP in any of the following ways: DHCP Client, PPPoE,and Fixed IP.DHCP Client - If your ISP gives you a host name, selectthis option to enter the respective information.InternetIn the Internet settings window, you can configure the wayyour wireless gateway used to connect to your ISP.  Also,we support DDNS for you to run your domain over achanging IP.Enter the Host nameSetting the Host NamePPPoE - If you use xDSL modem to connect to the ISP,select this option and enter the necessary information,including the Username, Password, Connect Option, andDisconnect Option.  If your ISP gives you a service name,you should put it to the related field.

Theassigned IP addresses will be within the range of IP poolthat you have specified in this option.  For example, notincluding the default IP address 192.168.1.254 of theLAN port, you can configure the range from 192.168.1.1 to192.168.1.253.This window includes:IP SettingDHCP ServerDHCP Client ListMAC FilterUPNP Setting* The default IP Address   for the LAN Port is  192.168.1.254;   and for DMZ port is  192.168.2.254. If you enabled this feature, only PCswith MAC address located in Association Control List canconnect to the wireless LAN.Setting WEPEnable WEPEncryptionThis option allows you to configure the setting of dataencryption.  WEP key must be set before the dataencryption is enforced.

It can also prevent hacker attacks by mappinglocal addresses to public addresses for key services,such as Web or FTP.3.3.5Virtual ServerYou can configure the wireless gateway as a virtualserver, so that remote users can access the services(e.g. Web or FTP) at your local site via public IP ad-dresses.  It also includes a list of Virtual Server if youhave setup (maximum 12 entries).Special ApplicationsSome special applications, such as Internet gaming,video conference and Internet telephony, require multipleconnections.  This feature allows these applications towork properly.  It also includes a list of Special Applica-tions if you have setup (maximum 12 entries).This window includes:Virtual ServerSpecial Applications

However, for applications thatrequire unrestricted access to the Internet, you canconfigure a specific client/server as a demilitarized zone.3.3.6This window includes:Firewall ControlFiltersIP BlockVirtual DMZFirewall ControlYou can enable or disable the firewall function in thisoption.FiltersYou can use this window to create and apply filters thatcan selectively block traffic to pass in and out of yournetwork according to Protocol Type or Port Number.  Italso includes a list of Filters if you have setup (maximum36 entries).IP BlockYou can use this window to create and apply filters thatcan selectively allow traffic to pass in and out of yournetwork according to the IP addresses.  It also includes alist of Filters if you have setup (maximum 6 entries).Virtual DMZIf you have a local client PC that cannot run an Internetapplication properly from behind the NAT firewall, you canopen the client up to unrestricted two-way Internet accessby defining a virtual  DMZ. When the Connection Properties windowappears, choose General tab and selectInternet Protocol [TCP/IP], and click Proper-ties to bring up the Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] Properties window.   5. Check Use the following IP address.  Then,enter an IP address into the empty field.  Sug-gested IP Address Range is 192.168.1.1 to192.168.1.253, and suggested Subnet Mask is255.255.255.0.
