1PC11B2 (MS-6828) - Wireless 11b PCI CardPC11B2 (MS-6828) Wireless 11b PCI Card is a cost-effective wireless networking solution for desktop PCs. Itcomplies with IEEE802.11b standard and provides up to11Mbps data rate. The PC11B2 (MS-6828) enables anydesktop PC to share a broadband connection, files andprinters over the network without the time and expense ofEthernet cabling. In addition, with its 64-/128-bit WEP keyand IEEE802.11i TKP, your network connection is highlysecured.Based on the DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum)technology operating in the 2.4GHz Industrial, Scienceand Medical band, the PC11B2 (MS-6828) complies withWi-Fi, ensuring interoperability with other compliantwireless LAN devices. The PC11B2 (MS-6828) is available to Microsoft Windowsoperating systems (Windows® XP/2000/ME/98SE) andcan be integrated into networking with either Ad-hocmode (computer-to-computer, without an Access Point) orInfrastructure mode (computer-to-access point, anAccess Point is required). >>> 1.1Introduction
2How PC11B2 (MS-6828) worksAd-hoc Mode : An Ad-hoc network is a local area network, especially one with wireless or temporary plug-in con-nections. Therefore, some of the network devices arepart of the network only for the duration of a communica-tions session. Users in the network can share files, printto a shared printer, and access the Internet with a sharedGateway or Access Point. In this kind of network, newdevices can be quickly added; however, users can onlycommunicate with other wireless LAN devices that are inthis wireless LAN workgroup, and are within range.>>> 1.2(MS-6828)
3Infrastructure Mode : The difference between Infrastruc-ture network and Ad-hoc network is that the former oneincludes an Access Point. In network environment, theAccess Point can manage the bandwidth to maximizebandwidth utilization. Moreover, the Access Point enablesusers on a wireless LAN to access an existing wirednetwork, allowing wireless users to take advantage of thewired networks resources, such as Internet, email, filetransfer, and printer sharing. The scale and range of theInfrastructure networking are larger and wider than that ofthe Ad-hoc networking.(MS-6828)
