FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Microscan to Instruct Barcode Traceability Workshop at Lab
Automation 2011
RENTON, WA, January 2011 — Microscan, the global technology leader in traceability solutions for life
sciences, will conduct an educational barcode traceability workshop at the upcoming SLAS Lab
Automation Conference and Exhibition, scheduled to take place January 30 –February 1, 2010 in Palm
Springs, CA. The course will be held at the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel on Sunday January 30, from
8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
As the premier global provider of embedded barcode scanners and imagers for lab automation and other
life science applications, Microscan will instruct a barcode traceability workshop titled “Introduction to
Barcode Technology.” Workshop attendees will learn the basics barcode traceability, including common
1D and 2D symbologies used in biopharmaceutical R&D labs, and how they are essential for sample
tracking from order entry through HTS and beyond. The workshop also will educate attendees about
technologies and parameters involved in acquiring and reading such codes and why seemingly “good”
codes often perform poorly.
Microscan has served major laboratory automation, clinical diagnostics, and medical device customers for
over 25 years, and brings a strong portfolio of proven barcode traceability solutions to the life science
market. To meet specific customer requirements, Microscan continues to develop new and innovative
Track, Trace and Control approaches for regulated manufacturing environments.
Course instructor Niels Wartenberg, Senior Applications Engineer, brings over 10 years of experience
instructing barcode traceability and technology overview courses for the Association of Laboratory
Automation. Prior to joining Microscan, Wartenberg spent more than eight years implementing barcode
technology in clinical laboratory systems for a major manufacturer of diagnostics instrumentation.
