21 Install IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint Software After installing IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint software, you can use the unique features of your wireless keyboard and mouse, such as the zoom slider.To install IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint software1 Insert the software CD into your computer’s CD drive. If the Setup screen doesn’t appear automatically, do the following:● Click Start, and then click Run.● Type [drive]:setup. For example, if your CD drive is drive E, type e:setup.2 On the Setup screen, click Install, and then follow the Setup Wizard instructions on the screen. Restart the computer, if prompted to do so.2 Install Digital Image Standard 2006 SoftwareDigital Image Standard 2006 software will help you enhance, organize, find, and share your photos. You must install Digital Image Standard 2006 for the keyboard PhotoCenter to work. To install Digital Image Standard 2006 software1 Insert the software CD into your computer’s CD drive. If the Setup screen doesn’t appear automatically, do the following:● Click Start, and then click Run.● Type [drive]:setup. For example, if your CD drive is drive E, type e:setup.2 On the Setup screen, click Next, and then follow the Installation Wizard instructions on the screen. Restart the computer, if prompted to do so.3 Insert the BatteriesThe keyboard and mouse each require batteries, which are included in the package. Whenever you insert batteries in the keyboard or mouse, always make sure that both batteries are new. Alkaline batteries provide maximum battery life.To insert the batteries1 Turn the device upside-down, and then remove the battery compartment cover.2 Insert the new batteries, making sure to properly orient the positive (+) and negative (–) ends as specified by the battery compartment labels. 34 Position the Receiver, Keyboard, and Mouse1 Position the receiver at least 8 inches (20 cm) away from your computer monitor, computer case, and any other items that might cause interference (such as metal filing cabinets, desktop fans, or fluorescent lights). 2 Position the keyboard and mouse no less than 8 inches (20 cm) from the receiver but no more than 6 feet (1.8 m) from the receiver. This distance varies depending on nearby items causing interference and other factors.5 Connect the Receiver to Your Computer● With your computer turned on, plug the rectangular universal serial bus (USB) connector into your computer’s rectangular USB port.Important ● You must leave the round PS/2 connector unplugged.● If you don’t have an available USB port, see “Other Connection Options” later in this manual.6 Test the Keyboard and MouseTry using the keyboard and mouse to make sure that they are working. Tip To test the keyboard, press the Windows logo key ( ). This opens the Windows Start menu.If either device doesn’t work as expected, make sure that the following procedures were completed as specified earlier in these instructions:● New batteries are inserted and positioned correctly in both the keyboard and the mouse.● The receiver is properly connected to the computer.● The keyboard, mouse, and receiver are properly positioned and there are no nearby items that might cause interference.If the keyboard or mouse is still not working, try changing the wireless connection channel for the device. Changing the wireless connection channel is useful if your wireless device is experiencing interference.To change the wireless connection channel● Press the Connect button on the bottom of the wireless keyboard or mouse.Note Using the tip of a pen may make it easier to press smaller buttons.X1111992bdy.indd 3 4/13/2005 1:23:41 PM
4If changing the channel does not solve the problem, you may need to reconnect the device to the receiver. To reconnect the keyboard or mouse to the receiver1 Make sure that the device and receiver are positioned as specified earlier in this manual.2 Press the button on the top of the wireless receiver. The receiver lights blink to indicate that it is in “connect” mode.3 Press the Connect button on the bottom of the wireless keyboard or mouse. The wireless keyboard or mouse may not work for a few seconds until the reconnection process is completed. Note You can reconnect only one device each time you press the receiver button, so repeat as necessary for the other device.If reconnecting the device to the receiver does not solve the problem, refer to the on-screen Help installed with the keyboard or mouse software for additional troubleshooting information.7 Read the On-Screen Help (optional)Help for IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint software contains the following important product information in a searchable format:● Hardware and software feature descriptions and instructions● Troubleshooting topics and Product Support Services information● Healthy Computing Guide● End-User License Agreement (EULA), Limited Warranty, and regulatory information● Battery removal and safety information ● Radio interference informationTo open Help for your keyboard or mouse● Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Keyboard or Microsoft Mouse, and then click Keyboard Help or Mouse Help.Help for Digital Image Standard 2006 software contains feature descriptions and instructions that will help you work with the digital imaging software.To open Help for Digital Image Standard 20061 Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Digital Image Standard 2006, and then click the program you want to open Help for.2 On the Help menu, click Digital Image Help or Digital Image Library Help, depending on the program you chose in step 1.8 Customize Your Devices (optional)You can start IntelliType Pro keyboard software or IntelliPoint mouse software and customize your devices.X1111992bdy.indd 4 4/13/2005 1:23:42 PM
5By using IntelliType Pro keyboard software, you can:● Reassign many of the keys to perform commands, such as Find, or to open programs, files, Web pages, or shortcuts.● Disable keys you sometimes press accidentally, such as CAPS LOCK.By using IntelliPoint mouse software, you can:● Reassign each of the mouse buttons, including the wheel button, to perform a command, such as Copy.● Modify the mouse settings, such as the wheel scrolling rate.To start IntelliType Pro or IntelliPoint software● Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Keyboard or Microsoft Mouse, and then click Microsoft Keyboard or Microsoft Mouse. Important ● Before boarding any aircraft, remove the batteries from the wireless keyboard and mouse. These devices can transmit radio frequency (RF) energy, much like a cellular telephone, whenever batteries are installed and the keyboard or mouse is activated either by touch or button press.● For detailed information about U.S. and Canadian radio interference regulations, search for “regulations” in the on-screen Help installed with the software. For information about how to access Help, see Step 7. Using the Magnifier You can use the Magnifier like a magnifying glass to enlarge text and images on your screen. To turn the Magnifier on and off● Click the mouse button assigned to Magnify to display the Magnifier, and then click the button again to turn it off. Using the PhotoCenter You can use the controls in the PhotoCenter, located on the left side of the keyboard, to open the digital imaging software and work with your photos. 1 Slide Show Display the selected photos in a slide show. During the slide show, you can edit, print, or e-mail the photo that’s currently displayed by pressing the appropriate PhotoCenter key.2 Print Print the selected photo(s).3 Send E-mail the selected photo(s).4 Edit Edit the selected photo(s).5 Library Open the photo library, where you can select photos for viewing, editing, and other tasks.6 Zoom Move the slider away from you to zoom in, and toward you to zoom out.X1111992bdy.indd 5 4/13/2005 1:23:43 PM
6 Adjusting the Keyboard LegsThe keyboard legs are designed to accommodate various body sizes, chairs, and desks.● Pull out or push in the keyboard legs to a position that minimizes bending of your wrists while typing. About the Receiver LightsThe receiver lights indicate the status of the toggle keys, such as NUM LOCK or CAPS LOCK. For example, if NUM LOCK is on, the NUM LOCK light is on; if CAPS LOCK is off, the CAPS LOCK light is off. Using the F LOCK KeyThe F LOCK toggle key gives your keyboard more functionality by providing two command modes for the top row of keys. When F LOCK is off, the alternate commands printed on the top of the keys are enabled. When F LOCK is on, the standard commands printed on the front of the keys are enabled.You need to turn on F LOCK to access certain system key commands labeled on the front of the keys, such as INSERT or SCROLL LOCK. Other Connection OptionsUSB provides simpler plug-and-play connectivity and enhanced performance. If you don’t have any available USB ports, try the following options.USB hubIf all of your USB ports are in use, consider purchasing a 4-port or 8-port USB hub. USB hubs, which are available at office and computer supply stores, provide an inexpensive solution for connecting multiple USB devices when your computer has a limited number of USB ports.PS/2 connection Although we recommend connecting using USB, you can use a PS/2 connection option if you don’t have any available USB ports.1 Shut down and turn off the computer.2 Plug the purple PS/2 connector into the computer’s round PS/2 keyboard port.3 Connect the green USB-to-PS/2 adapter to the USB connector, and then plug it into the computer’s round PS/2 mouse port.X1111992bdy.indd 6 4/13/2005 1:23:45 PM
