Introduction The AD-42W gateway allows you to connect a standard home stereo system to a compatible music player or headset that supports Bluetooth wireless technology. Read this user guide carefully before using the gateway. Read also the user guides for your compatible audio devices that you use with the gateway. Keep the gateway and its accessories out of reach of small children. Bluetooth wireless technology Bluetooth wireless technology allows you to connect compatible communication devices without cables. A Bluetooth connection does not require that the gateway and the other device be in line of sight, but both devices must be within a certain distance of each other. The distance depends on the operating range of the devices. The gateway is a Bluetooth Class 1 device with an operating range of up to 100 meters (300 feet) but a typical ENGLISH operating range of Bluetooth devices is 10 meters (30 feet). Connections can be subject to interference from obstructions, such as walls, or other electronic devices. The gateway is compliant with Bluetooth Specification 2.0 supporting the following profiles: Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) 1.0, and Generic Audio/ Video Distribution Profile (GAVDP) 1.0. Check with the manufacturers of other devices to determine their compatibility with this device. There may be restrictions on using Bluetooth technology in some locations. Check with your local authorities or service provider. Parts The gateway contains the parts shown at the start of this guide: 1—Pairing key 2—Blue indicator light 3—Operating mode key 4—RCA audio inputs; the red connector is for the left stereo channel and the white connector for the right channel. 5—Power connector 6—RCA audio outputs Chargers Check the model number of any charger before use with this device. The device is intended for use when supplied with power from the AC-3, AC-4, or DC-4 charger. Warning! Use only chargers approved by Nokia for use with this particular device. The use of any other types may invalidate any ENGLISH approval or warranty, and may be dangerous. When you disconnect the power cord of any enhancement, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord. Switch the gateway on or off To switch on, plug the charger cable into the power connector at the back, and connect the charger to a wall outlet. When the gateway is connected to a paired audio device and is ready for use, the indicator light flashes slowly. The gateway tries to connect to the Bluetooth device that you have used most recently in the current operating mode. For more information on the two operating modes, see “Pair the gateway”. To switch off, unplug the charger from the wall outlet and the gateway. Pair the gateway Before you can use the gateway with a compatible audio device that supports Bluetooth wireless technology, you need to pair the gateway with it. To pair the gateway with a music player (such as a music player device or a mobile phone with a music player feature), do as follows: 1. Check that the operating mode key is in the down position. If it is not, press the key. 2. Press and hold the pairing key until the indicator light is continuously shown. 3. Use your music player or phone to search for and select the gateway and to enter the Bluetooth passcode 0000. ENGLISH If the pairing was successful, the indicator light flashes quickly 10 times. To pair the gateway with a headset, do as follows: 1. Check that the operating mode key is in the up position. If it is not, press the key. 2. Set up the headset for pairing as instructed in the user guide for the headset. 3. Press and hold the pairing key until the indicator light is continuously shown. The gateway is paired automatically with the headset. If the headset requires a Bluetooth passcode and the default passcode of the headset is not 0000, change the passcode to 0000 as instructed in the user guide of the headset. You can pair the gateway with up to eight Bluetooth devices but connect it to only one device at a time in both operating modes. To change the Bluetooth audio device (such as a music player or headset) that you have connected to the gateway, disconnect the current device from the gateway and connect another paired device to it. For details, see the user guides of your audio devices. If you want to clear the list of paired devices, press and hold the pairing key for 15 seconds while you are not listening to music through the gateway. Connect the gateway Ensure that the home stereo system is switched off before making any connections to it. To play music on your paired music player through a home stereo system, plug the supplied RCA cables to the audio outputs on the gateway and to the audio inputs on your stereo system. To play music on your home stereo system through a paired headset, plug the RCA ENGLISH cables to the audio inputs on the gateway and to the audio outputs on your stereo system. After you have connected the gateway to your home stereo system, set the volume at a moderate level on the music player or headset and the stereo system, and start to play music on the music player or stereo system. If you have paired and connected the gateway with a music player and a headset, to switch between the two connections, press the operating mode key. To use the gateway with a music player, the operating mode key must be in the down position. To use the gateway with a headset, the operating mode key must be in the up position.
