On vehicles with a cell phone package, there is a base plate ⇒ fig. 2 on the instrument panel for a cell phone cradle1. Cradles for supported phones are available at your authorized Volkswagen dealer. 1 Where applicable
(Supplement) – Cell phone package for Passat Sedan, Model year 2006 Cell phone package 3 The cradle, when mounted to the baseplate, connects the cell phone to the cell phone package in your vehicle (hands-free device, integrated exterior antenna and battery charger). More information about phone cradles is available in the User's Guide for the cradle. Before you can use the cell phone package, a compatible cell phone must undergo a one-time initial pairing process to the cell phone package ⇒ page 5 using Bluetooth® wireless technology ⇒ page 4. After the initial pairing process, the connection between the cell phone package and a recognized (previ-ously paired) cell phone is automatically established when the ignition is switched on or the telephone is placed in the cradle. The following also applies: • The telephone is connected to a microphone in the vicinity of the front interior light. • Calls are routed over the vehicle loudspeakers, during which time the factory-installed radio is muted. • Telephone calls can be answered, rejected or ended using the telephone button on the multi-function steering wheel - . If the cell phone is in the cradle, the following also applies: • The cell phone is connected to the integrated exterior antenna. • The cell phone battery is charged, if needed. Radio During an incoming or outgoing call, the radio is automatically muted so that unnecessary noise does not interfere with the call. The radio will automatically switch on if it is turned off when the phone package is in use. Call Volume You adjust the volume of the call with the radio volume control or by using the volume control buttons & and ' on the multi-function steering wheel. It is not necessary to make any adjustments on the cell phone. During a call, the volume control adjusts only the volume of the call, and does not affect the volume of the radio or CD modes. Navigation System1 If you have started a navigation system, navigation directions will continue to be given during a telephone call. Cell Phone Charging While the cell phone is in the cradle, the cell phone battery will be charged as needed while the iginition is on as well as during the delayed off period. Delayed off After the ignition is switched off, the cell phone remains switched on for about 30 minutes (delayed off). The multi-function steering wheel is switched off during delayed off. If the ignition is switched off during an active call, the delayed off does not begin until the call has ended. The delayed off period can be reprogrammed by your Volkswagen dealer.
(Supplement) – Cell phone package for Passat Sedan, Model year 2006 4 Cell phone package WARNING Improper use of the cell phone causes driver distraction and accidents as well as serious personal injury. •••• Always devote your full attention to the traffic around you! Use the telephone only if traffic and other conditions permit. •••• Always set volume levels so that you can clearly hear horns, sirens and other warning sounds outside the vehicle. •••• Using a cell phone inside the vehicle without having a separate outside antenna can be danger-ous to your health and that of your passengers because the electromagnetic radiation energy that cell phones emit may be above established limits. •••• Never leave a cell phone on the seat, instrument panel or in other places where it can be thrown around the inside of the vehicle during a sudden braking maneuver, a crash or other accident and injure the vehicle occupants. Always place the cell phone securely in a cradle. •••• Always make sure that the cell phone is properly secured in the cradle and that the cradle is securely locked onto the base plate. In an accident, a cell phone that is not properly secured can be thrown from the cradle and cause injury. •••• In areas with no or inadequate network reception, and under certain conditions such as in tunnels, garages and underpasses, it may not be possible to make a telephone call – even in an emergency! Tips • Cradles for supported cell phones are available from authorized Volkswagen dealers. • Please observe applicable laws concerning the use of a cell phone in your vehicle. • We recommend that you use the cell phone only in a suitable cradle in order to minimize the electro-magnetic radiation in your vehicle and the risk of injury. • The cell phone controls in the multi-function steering wheel work only when the ignition is switched on. Applies to vehicles: with cell phone package Bluetooth® wireless technology Bluetooth® wireless technology is an industry standard for wireless connection of devices over short distances. Bluetooth offers a wireless interface over which small mobile devices such as cell phones and PDAs as well as computers and peripheral devices can communicate with one another. With the cell phone package, Bluetooth® wireless technology offers a connection between a compatible cell phone and the vehicle's hands-free device. A one-time initial pairing process is necessary for this ⇒ page 5. A cell phone with Bluetooth® that has already been recognized (previously paired) by the cell phone package is automatically recognized and connected when the ignition is switched on or when the cell phone is inserted in the cradle2. The cell phone and its Bluetooth® option must be switched on and all active Bluetooth connections between the cell phone and other devices must be ended. When the ignition is switched off, the Bluetooth connection is ended after the delayed off period ⇒ page 3. 2 Where applicable
(Supplement) – Cell phone package for Passat Sedan, Model year 2006 Cell phone package 5 Radio connections using Bluetooth® radio communication technology do not increase cell phone usage fees. The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Nokia or Volkswagen is under license. Tips • In some countries, there may be restrictions on the use of devices that support Bluetooth® wireless technology. Local authorities can provide you with the pertinent information. • If you connect the cell phone package to another device using Bluetooth® wireless technology, read the User's Guide for that device to obtain more detailed safety instructions. Use only compatible products. Applies to vehicles: with cell phone package Linking the cell phone with the cell phone package (Initial pairing process) Cell phones that support Bluetooth® wireless technology must un-dergo a one-time initial pairing process before the cell phone can be used with the cell phone package. The cell phone has a list of Bluetooth® devices found. – Select the “VW UHV” device. – Your cell phone will ask for a password. – Enter the password “0000”. – When the Bluetooth® enabled cell phone and the cell phone package in your ve-hicle have been connected, you will hear a beep over the vehicle loudspeakers.

Tips • The linking process as well as Bluetooth® settings in the cell phone package are only available when the vehicle is not moving. • When establishing a connection automatically through Bluetooth®, the cell phone package looks for recognized devices within its operating range. If there should be several previously recognized cell phones within Bluetooth® range, the device last connected is given priority. It does not necessarily have to be the cell phone in the cradle for the recognition and connection to occur. • Connecting a cell phone to a cell phone package makes the cell phone package invisible to other Bluetooth® devices, i.e. other cell phones cannot be paired or connected to it. • Ensure the Bluetooth® - Authorization required - setting on your cell phone is set to ‘NO’ in order to allow automatic reconnection. Please refer to the User's Guide of your cell phone manufacturer. • When Bluetooth® devices have been paired or have “gotten to know” each other once, the Bluetooth® setting “Visible to All” is no longer needed. The phone package in your vehicle switches its visibility off
