2Hands free phone kit descriptionThe hands free phone kit is a convenient hands-free feature that can be connected to a com-patible cell phone using Bluetooth® radio communication technology.Before you can use the hands free phone kit, a compatible cell phone must undergo a one-time initialpairing process to the hands free phone kit using Bluetooth® wireless technology ⇒ page 3.After the initial pairing process, the connection between the hands free phone kit and a recognized (pre-viously paired) cell phone is automatically established when the ignition is switched on.If the cell phone is connected to the hands free phone kit, the following applies:●The cell phone is connected to the microphone near the front interior light.●Calls are routed over the vehicle loudspeakers, during which time the factory-installed radio / radio-navigation system is muted.●Telephone calls can be answered, rejected or ended using the telephone button on the multi-functionsteering wheel . This function is available only when the ignition is switched on or when theignition key is inserted in the ignition lock and the radio or radio-navigation system is switched on.●A telephone call is transferred to the cell phone if you remove the ignition key from the ignition lockwhile a call is in progress.●On cell phones that support the “Advanced Audio Distribution Profile” (A2DP), the music stored inthe cell phone can be played back over a suitable radio or radio-navigation system ⇒ page 7.Radio or radio-navigation systemThe radio or radio-navigation system will automatically switch on if it is turned off when the phone kit isin use.During an incoming or outgoing call, the radio or radio-navigation system is automatically muted so thatunnecessary noise does not interfere with the call.Navigation directions will continue to be given during a telephone call.Call VolumeYou adjust the volume of the call with the radio volume control or by using the volume controlbuttons and on the multi-function steering wheel. It is not necessary to make any adjustmentson the cell phone. During a call, the volume control adjusts only the volume of the call, and does not af-fect the volume of the radio mode.Conference callsConference calls can be controlled directly with the features in your cell phone. Please see your cellphone User’s Guide for more information. CAUTIONDriver distraction causes accidents, collisions and serious personal injury!●Never let yourself be distracted by setting, adjusting or using the cellular phone or CB radio.●Use the cellular phone or CB radio only if road, traffic and weather conditions permit and youwill not be distracted from your driving.●Always set volume levels so that you can clearly hear horns, sirens and other warningsounds outside the vehicle.●In areas with no or inadequate cellular phone network service and occasionally in tunnels,garages and underpasses as well, a telephone call cannot be put through – no emergencycalls either!●Using a cell phone or CB radios inside the vehicle without having a separate outsideantenna can be dangerous to your health and that of your passengers because the electro-magnetic radiation energy that these devices emit may be above established limits.●Always switch off completely cellular phones or CB radios while refueling. 3 Attention!Improper installation of cell phones, CB radios or other electronic components can cause other vehiclesystems to malfunction. The most common causes of faults are:●No external antenna●Incorrectly installed external antenna●Transmitting power of more than 10 wattsBluetooth® wireless technologyBluetooth® wireless technology is an industry standard for wireless connection of devices over short dis-tances. Bluetooth® offers a wireless interface over which small mobile devices such as cell phones andPDAs as well as computers and peripheral devices can communicate with one another.With the hands free phone kit, Bluetooth® wireless technology offers a connection between a compati-ble cell phone and the hands free phone kit. A one-time initial pairing process is necessary for this ⇒page 4.Please observe information ⇒ page 4 “Linking a Bluetooth® cell phone to the hands free phone kit”.A cell phone with Bluetooth® that has already been recognized (previously paired) by the hands freephone kit is automatically recognized and connected the ignition is switched on. The cell phone and itsBluetooth®option, however, must be switched on and all active Bluetooth® connections between the cellphone and other devices must be ended.Radio connections using Bluetooth® radio communication technology do not increase cell phone usagefees.The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marksby Nokia or Volkswagen is under license. Note●In some countries, there may be restrictions on the use of devices that support Bluetooth® wirelesstechnology. Local authorities can provide you with the pertinent information.●If you connect the hands free phone kit to another device using Bluetooth® wireless technology, readthe User's Guide for that device to obtain more detailed safety instructions. CAUTIONHeart specialists advise that cell phones can adversely affect the way of pacemakers work.●Always keep the cell phone antenna at least 8 inches (20 cm) away from the pacemaker.●Never carry cell phone that is switched on in the breast pocket directly over the pacemaker.●If you suspect there may be interference with a pacemaker, switch the cell phone off immedi-ately. 4Linking a Bluetooth® cell phone to the hands free phone kitCompatible cell phones that support Bluetooth® wireless technology must undergo a one-time initial pairing process before the cell phone can be used with the hands free phone kit.The compatible Bluetooth® cell phone can be paired with the hands free phone kit via a Bluetooth® con-nection. Settings on the cell phone will have to be made to enable the paring to take place. For example,the hands free phone kit and the cell phone will have to exchange passwords. This “authentication” pro-cess only has to be performed once. Please note: The pairing process via Bluetooth® can only be carried out when the ignition is switchedon and the vehicle is not moving. Please consult your cell phone manufacturer's User's Guide for the cellphone settings. If necessary, close all active Bluetooth® connections for the cell phone to be linked.Making the hands free phone kit visible for Bluetooth®−Switch on the ignition.−While the vehicle is stationary, the hands free phone kit is automatically visible for five minutes afterthe ignition is switched on or−Press the button ⇒ Fig. Page 5 on the multi-function steering wheel twice in quick successionyou will hear a beep over the vehicle's loudspeakers, confirming the hands free phone kit has enteredpairing mode. Once the hands free phone kit enters pairing mode.−The cell phone and the hands free phone kit must be paired within approximately five minutes. TheBluetooth® visibility of the hands free phone kit ends automatically after about five minutes.Bluetooth® pairing process−Switch the cell phone on.−Activate the Bluetooth® function on the cell phone.−If necessary, end all active Bluetooth® connections with the cell phone.−As described in your cell phone User’s Guide, use your cell phone to search for available Bluetooth®devices. The cell phone has a list of Bluetooth® devices found.−Select the device VW UHV.−Confirm the Bluetooth® connection on the cell phone.−Your cell phone will ask for a password.−Enter the password 0000. If an incorrect password is entered, pairing is interrupted and you will haveto make the hands free phone kit visible to Bluetooth® again ⇒ page 4.−Depending on your cell phone, you may be asked whether the Bluetooth® connection should be madein the future without the need to enter the password, if so, confirm with “Yes”. The Bluetooth® con-nection will be made automatically the next time when the ignition is switched on.The cell phone is now paired with hands free phone kit.Closing the Bluetooth® connection−Press the appropriate key on the cell phone. Read the User's Guide from the cell phone manufacturerfor the correct procedure.Establishing connection to the hands free phone kit with an already recognized Bluetooth® deviceThe hands free phone kit automatically detects the cell phone as a recognized device. The Bluetooth®connection is established.A beep over the vehicle loudspeakers confirms that the hands free phone kit is working.Deleting the list of all recognized devices from the hands free phone kit−Switch the ignition on.−If necessary, end all active Bluetooth® connections with the hands free phone kit ⇒ page 4.−Make sure that there is no recognized cell phone within Bluetooth® range.−Hold the button on the multi-function steering wheel down longer than ten seconds.−A beep confirms the deletion.Freisprechanlage USA -US- Variante ESG.fm Seite 4 Mittwoch, 16. 5Certain settings can only be made on your cell phone, for example, deactivating the keypad lock,deactivating key clicks and warnings and activating display illumination.The cell phone and hands free phone kit recognize each other automatically after authentication of theBluetooth® connection (password entry). Up to seven different Bluetooth® enabled cell phones can bestored as recognized in the vehicle hands free phone kit. If an additional device is linked to the hands freephone kit, authentication to the device that has not been used for the longest period of time is automat-ically. Note●The pairing process as well as Bluetooth® settings in the hands free phone kit are only available whenthe vehicle is not moving.●Some Bluetooth® devices or adapters can be configured so that they connect automatically to thehands free phone kit. To help prevent interference during the linking process, we recommendswitching off any Bluetooth® devices and adapters that are not required during the pairing process.●When establishing a connection automatically through Bluetooth®, the hands free phone kit looks forrecognized devices within its operating range. If there should be several previously recognized cellphones within Bluetooth® range, the device last connected is given priority. It does not necessarilyhave to be the cell phone in the cradle for the recognition and connection to occur.●Connecting a cell phone to a hands free phone kit makes the hands free phone kit invisible to otherBluetooth® devices, i.e. other cell phones cannot be paired or connected to it. On most cell phonesa setting for the Bluetooth® devices “VW UHV” must be made to enable automatic reconnection.●Ensure the Bluetooth® – Authorization required – setting on your cell phone is set to “NO” in orderto allow automatic reconnection. Please refer to the User's Guide of your cell phone manufacturer.●When Bluetooth® devices have been paired or have “gotten to know” each other once, theBluetooth® setting “Visible to All” is no longer needed. The phone kit in your vehicle switches itsvisibility off after the linking process. For privacy reasons, you should also deactivate the visibility ofyour cell phone as appropriate.●In some countries, there may be restrictions regarding the use of Bluetooth® devices. Localauthorities can provide you with the pertinent information.Using the hands free phone kitAfter a pairing process, the provision for a cell phone can be used as a convenient hands-free telephone system.Multi-function steering wheel: Left side.Placing a call−Enter a telephone number on the cell phone or select an entry from the directory.−Press the appropriate key on the cell phone to establish the connection. Read the User's Guide from the cell phone manufacturerfor the correct procedure.Ending a call−Briefly press the button on the multi-function steering wheel.−Press the appropriate key on the cell phone. Read the User's Guide from the cell phone manufacturerfor the correct procedure.Switching to Private Mode (only fort cell phones paired via Bluetooth®)−Press the button on the multi-function steering wheel again for more than two seconds to switchthe call from the cell phone back to the hands-free device.−During an active call, press the button on the multi-function steering wheel for more than twoseconds to switch the call from the hands free phone kit to the cell phone.Additional functions−Additional functions, such as call waiting, are possible from the cell phone itself only if it (and yourservice provider) supports these functions. Read the User's Guide from the cell phone manufacturerfor the correct procedure. Note●You might experience reception problems with the cell phone if you are travelling though areas wherethe signal is weak.●Please observe applicable laws concerning the use of a cell phone in your vehicle.●The cell phone controls in the multi-function steering wheel work only when the ignition is switchedon.●When you press the telephone buttons, the button and warning sounds from the cell phone may beheard over the radio or radio-navigation system. We recommend deactivating the button and warningsounds on your cell phone. Please read the User’s Guide provided by the cell phone manufacturer formore information. 7Wireless communication interface “Bluetooth® Audio”The music stored in your cell phone can be played back over the vehicle radio or radio-navi-gation system using the wireless communication“Bluetooth® Audio” interface.In order to use “Bluetooth® Audio,”, the cell phone must support at least the Bluetooth® profile “Ad-vanced Audio Distribution Profile” (A2DP). A2DP is used for high-quality wireless transmission of a ste-reo audio signal.Starting music playback via “Bluetooth® Audio” −The cell phone must be paired with the hands free phone kit ⇒ page 4 to start “Bluetooth® Audio”.−Select the music playback program on the cell phone (e.g. Playback via headset or Playback viaBluetooth). Please refer to the User’s Guide for your cell phone for instructions as to how to selectthe music playback program.−Select the device VW UHV.−Select the media menu by pressing the Media button on the radio or radio-navigation system.−Music playback will start.Ending music playback via “Bluetooth® Audio” −Stop playback from the music playback program in your cell phone.Approved radios and radio-navigation systems“Bluetooth® Audio” is only possible with certain Volkswagen radios or Volkswagen navigation systems.Ask your Volkswagen dealership which products are compatible.Operation during music playback via “Bluetooth® Audio” You adjust the sound and switch to other audio sources using the radio or radio-navigation system.You select the music track and fast forward or rewind using the buttons on the cell phone. Current scientific literature indi-cates that radio waves that exceed a certain level can have effects on the human body. Limits and guide-lines have been established by governmental authorities and international committees in an effort tokeep the electromagnetic radiation from cellular phones at levels that will not cause health problems.However, ast this time there no scientific proof that wireless phones are absolutely safe.Therefore some experts recommend a precautionary approach regarding the use of cellular phones bytaking measures that lower the personal exposure to electromagnetic fields.When using a cell phone inside a motor vehicle without a proper connection to an integrated vehicle tele-phone antenna the personal exposure to electromagnetic fields will be higher than when using the cellphone while being properly connected to an integrated or other outside vehicle telephone antenna.Your vehicle may be equipped with an optional hands-free system that will permit many of the featuresof a compatible Bluetooth® enabled cell phones to be used for greater convenience and consistent withthe laws of an increasing number of states and localities that prohibit the use of cell phones withoutsome kind of hands-free device.The hands-free system in your vehicle can be used with certain cell phones that are connected by wireand hardware connector or via compatible Bluetooth® enabled phones with a cradle that is designed tofit your cell phone in the special cradle offers several advantages: Your phone is firmly attached to theinstrument panel and is within reach at all times. Placing the phone in its cradle permits it to be charged,but more importantly connects the cellular phone to the vehicle's outside antenna. A cell phone that isproperly connected to the integrated or other outside vehicle telephone antenna will lower the personalexposure to electromagnetic fields. Additionally, you should experience a better quality of service. Al-though a cell phone can be used inside your vehicle without a cradle, the phone will not be securely at-tached to the vehicle, will not be charged through the cradle wiring and more importantly will not beconnected to the vehicle's integrated telephone antenna. Also, you might experience more dropped callsand an overall impaired quality of the connection.Therefore we strongly recommend that you use your cell phone in your vehicle only when it is properlyattached to the appropriate cradle mounted on the base plate on the instrument panel.
