Your deviceModel number: N96-3.Hereinafter referred to as Nokia N96.For more information on your device, such as theantenna location, essential display indicators, andshortcuts, see the extended user guide on theproduct support pages of the Nokia website.Transfer contentYou can use the Switch application to copy contentsuch as phone numbers, addresses, calendar items,and images from your previous Nokia device to yourNokia N96 using Bluetooth connectivity.The type of content that can be transferred dependson the model of the device from which you want totransfer content. If that device supportssynchronisation, you can also synchronise databetween the devices. Your Nokia N96 notifies you ifthe other device is not compatible.If the other device cannot be switched on withouta SIM card, you can insert your SIM card in it. Whenyour Nokia N96 is switched on without a SIM card,the offline profile is automatically activated, andtransfer can be done.Transfer content for the first time1. To retrieve data from the other device for thefirst time, on your Nokia N96, select Switch inthe Welcome application, or press , and selectTools > Utilities > Switch.2. Select the connection type you want to use totransfer the data. Both devices must support theselected connection type.3. If you select Bluetooth, connect the two devices.To have your device search for devices withBluetooth connectivity, select Continue. Selectthe device from which you want to transfercontent. You are asked to enter a code on yourNokia N96. Enter a code (1-16 digits), and selectOK. Enter the same code on the other device, andselect OK. The devices are now paired. See "Pairdevices", p. 51.Some earlier Nokia devices may not have theSwitch application. In this case, the Switchapplication is sent to the other device as amessage. From your Nokia N96, select the content youwant to transfer from the other device.When the transfer has started, you can cancel itand continue later.Content is transferred from the memory of the otherdevice to the corresponding location in your NokiaN96. The transfer time depends on the amount ofdata to be transferred.Multimedia menuWith the multimedia menu, you can access yourmost frequently used multimedia content. Theselected content is shown in the appropriateapplication.1. To open or close themultimedia menu,press the multimediakey.2. To browse the tiles,scroll left or right.3. To scroll up or down ina tile, press the scrollkey up or down. Toselect items, press thescroll key.To change the order of the tiles, select Options >Arrange tiles.To return to the multimedia menu from an openapplication, press the multimedia key.Mobile searchPress , and select Search.Use Mobile Search to access internet search enginesand to find and connect to local services, websites,images, and mobile content. Contact your serviceprovider for more information on data services.For more information, visit www.n-gage.com.Offline profileTo activate the offline profile, press the power keybriefly, and select Offline.The offline profile lets you use the device withoutconnecting to the wireless network. When youactivate the offline profile, the connection to thewireless network is turned off, as indicated by inthe signal strength indicator area. All wireless RFsignals to and from the device are prevented. If youtry to send messages, they are placed in the outboxto be sent later.When the offline profile is active, you can use yourdevice without a SIM card.Important: In the offline profile you cannotmake or receive any calls, or use other features thatrequire cellular network coverage. Calls may still bepossible to the official emergency numberprogrammed into your device. To make calls, youmust first activate the phone function by changingprofiles. If the device has been locked, enter the lockcode.To leave the offline profile, press the power keybriefly, and select another profile. Personalise your deviceYou can personalise your device by changing thestandby mode, main menu, tones, themes, or fontsize. Most of the personalisation options, such aschanging the font size, can be accessed through thedevice settings.For information on Themes and 3-D tones, see theextended user guide on the product support pagesof the Nokia website.Set tones in ProfilesPress , and select Tools > Profiles.You can use profiles to set and customise theringing tones, message alert tones, and other tonesfor different events, environments, or caller groups.To change the profile, select a profile, andOptions > Activate, or press the power key in thestandby mode. Scroll to the profile you want toactivate, and select OK.Tip: To switch between the general and silentprofiles in the standby mode, press and hold#.To modify a profile, scroll to the profile, and selectOptions > Personalise.If you want to set a profile to be active a certaintime, select Options > Timed. When the set timeexpires, the profile changes back to the previouslyactive one. When a profile is timed, is displayedin the standby mode. The Offline profile cannot betimed.If you want the caller’s name to be spoken whenyour device rings, select Options > Personalise >Say caller's name > On. Youcan change the main menu to be shown as Grid,List, Horseshoe, or V-shaped.To rearrange the main menu, in the main menu,select Options > Move, Move to folder, or Newfolder. You can also transfer video clips froma compatible PC to your device and view them inVideo Centre.Using packet data access points to download videosmay involve the transmission of large amounts ofdata through your service provider's network.Contact your service provider for information aboutdata transmission charges.Your device may have predefined services.Service providers may provide free content orcharge a fee. Check the pricing in the service or fromthe service provider.View and download video clipsConnect to video services1. Press , and select Video centre.2. To connect to a service,select Video directoryand the desired videoservice from the servicecatalogue.Tip: You can accessthe video services onthe TV & video tilein the multimediamenu.View a video clipTo browse the content ofinstalled video services, select Video feeds.To select a video clip, use the scroll key. The contentof some video services is divided into categories; tobrowse video clips, select a category. To view information about the selected video clip,select Options > Video details.Some video clips can be streamed over the air, butothers must be first downloaded to your device. Todownload a video clip, select Options >Download. Downloads continue in the backgroundif you exit the application. The downloaded videoclips are saved in My videos. To stream a video clipor view a downloaded one, select Options >Play. When the video clip is playing, to control thevideo player, use the media keys. To adjust thevolume, press the volume key.Schedule downloadsSetting the application to download video clipsautomatically may involve the transmission of largeamounts of data through your service provider'snetwork. Contact your service provider forinformation about data transmission charges. Toschedule an automatic download for video clips ina service, select a category and Options >Schedule downloads. Video centre automaticallydownloads new video clips daily at the time youdefine.To cancel scheduled downloads for a category,select Manual download as the download method.Video feedsThe content of the installed video services isdistributed using RSS feeds. You can view andmanage your feeds in Video feeds.To check your current feed subscriptions, selectOptions > Feed subscriptions.To refresh the content of all feeds, select Options >Refresh feeds.To subscribe to new feeds, select Options > Addfeed. Select Via Video directory to select a feedfrom the services in the video directory, or Addmanually to add a video feed address.To view the videos available in a feed, scroll to it,and press the scroll key.To view information about a video, selectOptions > Feed details.To update the contents of the current feed, selectOptions > Refresh list.To manage your account options for a given feed, ifavailable, select Options > Manage account.To remove a feed from your subscriptions, selectOptions > Remove feed. My videosMy videos is a storage place for all videos in theVideo centre application. You can list downloadedvideos, TV recordings, and video clips recorded withthe device camera in separate views. To open Myvideos, press , and select Video centre > Myvideos.To open folders and view video clips, use the scrollkey. To control the video player when the video clipis playing, use the media keys. To adjust the volume,press the volume key.To play a downloaded video clip in the homenetwork, select Options > Show via homenetwork. Home network must be configured first.See "About home network", p. 35.To copy or move video clips to the mass memory ora compatible memory card, select Options > Moveand copy > Copy or Move and the desiredmemory.Transfer videos from your PCTransfer your own video clips to Video centre fromcompatible devices using a compatible USB datacable. Video centre will display only the video clipswhich are in a format supported by your device.1. To view your device on a PC as a mass memorydevice where you can transfer any data files,make the connection with a USB data cable.2. Select Mass storage as the connection mode.3. Select the video clips you want to copy from yourPC.4. Transfer the video clips to E:\My Videos in themass memory of your device, or to F:\MyVideos in a compatible memory card, ifavailable.The transferred video clips appear in the Myvideos folder in Video centre.
