Foravailability and information on using SIM card services,contact your SIM card vendor. This may be the serviceprovider, network operator, or other vendor.1. Always switch the device off, and disconnect thecharger before removing the battery.With the back of the device facing you, press andslide the back cover in the direction of the arrow.2. If the battery is installed, lift the battery from thebattery compartment in the direction of the arrowto remove it.3. To release the SIM card holder, slide it in thedirection of the arrow (1), and lift it (2). Insert theSIM card into the SIM card slot (3). 4. To insert the battery, align the contacts of thebattery with the corresponding connectors on thebattery compartment, insert in the direction of thearrow, and gently click the battery into place.5. Insert the locking catches of the back cover into thecorresponding slots, and slide the cover into place.Insert a memory cardSee "Memory," p. 17.1. To open the memory card compartment, pull thedoor in the direction of the arrow (1).2. Slide the memory card into the memory card slot(2). Ensure that the beveled corner of the memorycard is pointing towards the device and the contactarea is facing up.3. Important: Do not remove the MMC card inthe middle of an operation when the card is beingaccessed. Removing the card in the middle of anoperation may damage the memory card as well asthe device, and data stored on the card may becorrupted.Charge the battery1. Connect the charger to a wall outlet.2. Connect the power cord to the bottom of the device.The battery indicator bar starts scrolling on thedisplay. If the battery is completely discharged, itmay take a few minutes before the chargingindicator is shown. The device can be used whilecharging.3. When the battery is fully charged, the bar stopsscrolling. Disconnect the charger from the device,then from the outlet.Switch on your device1. To switch the device on, press the power key.2. If the device asks for a PIN code, lock code or securitycode, enter the code, and select OK.3. To switch the device off, press the power key.Tip: When you switch the device on, it mayrecognize the SIM card provider and configurethe correct text message, multimedia message,and GPRS settings automatically. You canchange the settings later.1. Select your home city from the list and OK. Tobrowse for a city, start to type the name of the city,or scroll to a city. It is important to select the correctcity, because scheduled calendar entries that youcreate can change when the home city is changed.2. Set the time, and select OK.3. Keypad lock (keyguard)When the keypad lock is on, calls may be possible to theofficial emergency number programmed into yourdevice.Use the keypad lock to prevent the keys on the phonefrom being accidentally pressed.To lock the keypad in the standbymode, press the left selection keyand *. To unlock, press the leftselection key and * again.Tip: To lock the keypad inthe Menu or in an openapplication, press thepower key briefly, andselect Lock keypad. Tounlock, press the leftselection key and *.To lock the device in the standbymode, press the left selection keyand #, and enter your lock code. Tounlock, press the left selection key and *. The picture shows the normaluse of the device at the ear forvoice calls.About the displayA small number of missing, discolored, or bright dotsmay appear on the screen. This is a characteristic of thistype of display. Some displays may contain pixels ordots that remain on or off. This is normal, not a fault.Rotate the displayYou can rotate the display screen on your device fromportrait to landscape.Press and hold the menu key. When the applicationswitching window is displayed, select Rotate.The display screen rotates 90 degrees clockwise fromportrait to landscape and back to portrait each time youselect Rotate.Tip: The application switching windowdisplays Rotate until you switch off the phoneor use the clear key to turn off the option.Standby modesYour device has two different standby modes: standbymode and active standby mode.Standby modeAfter you have switched on your device and it is readyfor use, but you have not entered any characters ormade other selections, the phone is in the standbymode. An infrared connection is active. If the indicatorblinks, your device is trying to connect to the otherdevice, or the connection has been lost. Your device is connected to a PC with a USB datacable. All calls are forwarded to another number. and Indicate the phone line that you haveselected, if you have subscribed to two phone lines(network service). You have missed a phone call. You have an ongoing push to talk connection.Write textTraditional text input is shown on the top right of the display when youare writing text using traditional text input. and indicate the selected case. indicates that the first letter of the word is written inuppercase and all the other letters will automatically bewritten in lowercase. indicates number mode.•Press a number key 1–9 repeatedly until the desiredcharacter appears. There are more charactersavailable for a number key than are printed on thekey.• To insert a number, press and hold the number key.• To switch between letter and number mode, pressand hold #.• If the next letter is located on the same key as thepresent one, wait until the cursor appears, and enterthe letter.• To erase a character, press the clear key. Press andhold the clear key to clear more than one character.• To access the most common punctuation marks,press the 1 key. Press 1 repeatedly to reach thedesired punctuation mark. • To switch between the different character cases,press #.Predictive text input1. To activate predictive text input, press the edit key,and select Predictive text on. This activatespredictive text input for all editors in the device. Theindicator is shown on the top right of thedisplay when you are writing text using predictivetext input.2. To write the desired word, press 2–9. Press each keyonly once for one letter.3. When you have finished writing the word and it iscorrect, to confirm it, scroll right, or press 0 to adda space.If the word is not correct, press * repeatedly to viewthe matching words the dictionary has found oneby one.If the ? character is shown after the word, the wordyou intended to write is not in the dictionary. To adda word to the dictionary, select Spell, enter the word(up to 32 letters) using traditional text input, andselect OK. The word is added to the dictionary. Whenthe dictionary is full, a new word replaces the oldestadded word.4. Start writing the next word.Tip: To set predictive text input on or off, press# twice quickly.Write the first half of a compound word; to confirm it,scroll right. Work with cellsTo insert cells, select the area where you want to insertnew cells and Options > Cells > Insert. You can insertcells above (Shift cells down) or to the left (Shift cellsright) of the selected range. If you select only one cell,only one new cell is inserted. If you select a range ofcells, a corresponding range of blank cells is inserted.You can also insert a new row or column.To delete cells, rows, or columns, select the items youwant to delete and Options > Cells > Delete. Battery informationYour device is powered by a rechargeable battery. Thefull performance of a new battery is achieved only aftertwo or three complete charge and discharge cycles. Thebattery can be charged and discharged hundreds oftimes, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk andstandby times are noticeably shorter than normal, buya new battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, andrecharge your battery only with Nokia approvedchargers designated for this device.Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and thedevice when not in use.
