BatteryBattery and charger informationYour device is powered by a rechargeable battery. Thebattery intended for use with this device is BL-5C. Thisdevice is intended for use when supplied with power fromthe following chargers: AC-3. The battery can be chargedand discharged hundreds of times, but it will eventuallywear out. When the talk and standby times are noticeablyshorter than normal, replace the battery. Use only Nokiaapproved batteries, and recharge your battery only withNokia approved chargers designated for this device. Use ofan unapproved battery or charger may present a risk of fire, explosion, leakage, or other hazard. The exact charger model number may vary depending onthe type of plug. The plug variant is identified by one of thefollowing: E, EB, X, AR, U, A, C, or UB.If a battery is being used for the first time or if the batteryhas not been used for a prolonged period, it may benecessary to connect the charger, then disconnect andreconnect it to begin charging the battery. Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and the devicewhen not in use. Do not leave a fully charged batteryconnected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten itslifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose itscharge over time.Always try to keep the battery between 15°C and 25°C (59°Fand 77°F). Extreme temperatures reduce the capacity andlifetime of the battery. A device with a hot or cold batterymay not work temporarily. Battery performance isparticularly limited in temperatures well below freezing.Do not short-circuit the battery. Accidental short-circuitingcan occur when a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pencauses direct connection of the positive (+) and negative(-) terminals of the battery. (These look like metal strips onthe battery.) This might happen, for example, when youcarry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting the terminals may damage the battery or theconnecting object.Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they may explode.Batteries may also explode if damaged. Dispose ofbatteries according to local regulations. Please recyclewhen possible. Do not dispose as household waste.Do not dismantle, cut, open, crush, bend, deform, puncture, or shred cells or batteries. In the event of abattery leak, do not allow the liquid to come in contact withthe skin or eyes. In the event of such a leak, flush your skinor eyes immediately with water, or seek medical help.62CyanCyanMagentaMagentaYellowYellowBlackBlack2009-02-16 10:28:5 RM495 USER GUIDE 4
Do not modify, remanufacture, attempt to insert foreignobjects into the battery, or immerse or expose it to wateror other liquids.Improper battery use may result in a fire, explosion, orother hazard. If the device or battery is dropped, especiallyon a hard surface, and you believe the battery has beendamaged, take it to a service centre for inspection beforecontinuing to use it.Use the battery only for its intended purpose. Never useany charger or battery that is damaged. Keep your batteryout of the reach of small children.Nokia battery authenticationguidelinesAlways use original Nokia batteries for your safety. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion orfire resulting in bodily injury or even death. Switch off thedevice at refuelling points such as near gas pumps atservice stations. Observe restrictions on the use of radioequipment in fuel depots, storage, and distribution areas;chemical plants; or where blasting operations are inprogress. Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphereare often, but not always, clearly marked. They includebelow deck on boats, chemical transfer or storage facilities72CyanCyanMagentaMagentaYellowYellowBlackBlack2009-02-16 10:28:5 RM495 USER GUIDE 4

It isdesigned not to exceed the limits for exposure to radiowaves recommended by international guidelines. Theseguidelines were developed by the independent scientificorganisation ICNIRP and include safety margins designedto assure the protection of all persons, regardless of ageand health. The exposure guidelines for mobile devices employ a unitof measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate orSAR. The SAR limit stated in the ICNIRP guidelines is 2.074CyanCyanMagentaMagentaYellowYellowBlackBlack2009-02-16 10:28:5 RM495 USER GUIDE 4
watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams of tissue.Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operatingpositions with the device transmitting at its highestcertified power level in all tested frequency bands. Theactual SAR level of an operating device can be below themaximum value because the device is designed to use onlythe power required to reach the network. That amountchanges depending on a number of factors such as howclose you are to a network base station.
