Shared memoryThe following features in this device may sharememory: multimedia messaging (MMS), e-mailapplication, instant messaging. SettingsYour device normally has MMS, GPRS, streaming, andmobile internet settings automatically configured,based on your network service providerinformation. You may have settings from yourservice providers already installed in your device, oryou may receive or request the settings from thenetwork service providers as a special message.You can change the general settings in your device,such as language, standby mode, display, andkeypad lock settings.Access codesIf you forget any of the access codes, contact yourservice provider.●Personal identification number (PIN) code — Thiscode protects your SIM card againstunauthorized use. The PIN code (4 to 8 digits) isusually supplied with the SIM card. After threeconsecutive incorrect PIN code entries, the codeis blocked, and you need the PUK code to unblockit.●UPIN code — This code may be supplied with theUSIM card. The USIM card is an enhanced versionof the SIM card and is supported by UMTS mobilephones.●PIN2 code — This code (4 to 8 digits) is suppliedwith some SIM cards and is required to accesssome functions in your device.●Lock code (also known as security code) — Thelock code helps you to protect your deviceagainst unauthorized use. You can create andchange the code, and set the device to requestthe code. Keep the new code secret and in a safeplace separate from your device. If you forget thecode and your device is locked, your device willrequire service and additional charges mayapply. Switch off Bluetooth when youdo not need it.●Features that use wireless LAN (WLAN), orallowing such features to run in the backgroundwhile using other features, increase the demandon battery power. The WLAN on your Nokiadevice switches off when you are not trying toconnect, not connected to another access point,or not scanning for available networks. Tofurther reduce battery consumption, you canspecify that your device not scan, or scans lessoften, for available networks in the background.●If you have set Packet data connection toWhen available in connection settings, andthere is no packet data coverage (GPRS), thedevice periodically tries to establish a packetdata connection. To prolong the operating timeof your device, select Packet data connection >When needed.●The Maps application downloads new mapinformation when you scroll to new areas on themap, which increases the demand on batterypower. You can prevent the automatic downloadof new maps.●If the signal strength of the cellular networkvaries much in your area, your device must scanfor the available network repeatedly. Thisincreases the demand on battery power.If the network mode is set to dual mode in thenetwork settings, the device searches for theUMTS network. You can set the device to use onlythe GSM network. To use only the GSM network,select Menu > Settings and Connectivity >Network > Network mode > GSM.●The backlight of the display increases thedemand on battery power. Align the battery contacts to the correspondingconnectors of the battery compartment, andinsert the battery in the direction of the arrow.5. To replace the back cover, direct the top lockinghooks toward their slots first and then pressdown until the cover locks into place.Memory cardUse only compatible microSD cardsapproved by Nokia for use with thisdevice. Insert the memory cardA memory card may already be in the device. If not,do the following:1. Remove the back cover of the device.2. Insert a compatiblememory card in theslot. Ensure that thecontact area on thecard is facing downand towards the slot.3. Push the card in. Youcan hear a click when thecard locks into place.4. Replace the back cover.Keep the device facingdown when replacing thecover. Ensure that thecover is properly closed.Remove the memory cardImportant: Do not remove the memory cardin the middle of an operation when the card is beingaccessed. Removing the card in the middle of anoperation may damage the memory card as well asthe device, and data stored on the card may becorrupted.1. Before you remove the card, press the powerkey, and select Remove memory card. Allapplications are closed.2. When Removing memory card will close allopen applications. Remove anyway? isdisplayed, select Yes.3. When Remove memory card and press 'OK' isdisplayed, remove the back cover of the device.4. Press the memory card to release it from the slot.5. Pull out the memory card. If the device isswitched on, select OK.6. Replace the back cover. Ensure that the cover isproperly closed.Antenna locationsYour device may have internal and externalantennas. Switch the device on and offTo switch on the device:1. Press and hold the power key.2. If the device asks for a PINcode or lock code, enter it, andselect OK. The preset lockcode is 12345. If you forgetthe code and your device islocked, your device willrequire service and additionalcharges may apply. For moreinformation, contact a NokiaCare point or your devicedealer.To switch off the device, press thepower key briefly, and selectSwitch off!.Charge the batteryYour battery has been partially charged at thefactory. There is no need to charge the device inadvance. Regular charging1. Connect thecharger to awall outlet.2. Connect thecharger to thedevice. Thechargingindicator light next to the USB connector is litwhen the battery is being charged.3. When the battery is fully charged, disconnect thecharger from the device, then from the walloutlet.You do not need to charge the battery for a specificlength of time, and you can use the device while itis charging. If the battery is completely discharged,it may take several minutes before the chargingindicator appears on the display or before any callscan be made.Tip: Disconnect the charger from the walloutlet when the charger is not in use. Acharger that is connected to the outletconsumes power even when it is notconnected to the device.USB chargingYou can use USB charging when a wall outlet is notavailable. With USB charging, you can also transferdata while charging the device.1. Connect a compatible USB device to your deviceusing a compatible USB cable.Depending on the type of device that is used forcharging, it may take a while for charging tostart.2. If your device is switched on, you can select fromthe available USB mode options on the displayof the device.Note: During extended operation orcharging, the device or the charger may feel warm.In most cases, this condition is normal.
