The Family Radio Service is provided for by the FCC and is totally license flee. For the first time business and the general public can use the quiet UHF FM band for personal communications at no charge. The 75-507 uses maximum allowable puwu' for range up to 2 miles Use for fishing, hunting, pimies, biking, business, or any other activity where communications are needed for mnvenimee or safety. The model 75-507 operates on 14 channels to provide the best in quiet and private communication, Also this radio olfers power save, and auto-squelch. TH’S FOR GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR 75-507 Due to the band of operation (462/467 MHz) the 75-507 provides communications that are virtually free of atmospheric interfwenee (skip) that is common on lower fi'equmcy bands. Along with this and an antenna system that is very elficia'lt as compared to other unlicensed radio bands, oommmiications range is surprisingly good Many times the limits to maximum possible range are environmental firetors such as blockage caused by trees, buildings, hills, of other obstructions If you find communication is not possible, many times this can be overcome by moving only a few feet to a new location. Range may be reduced while operating in a vehicle or from inside to outside a metal building. Battery condition also afiects range. The 75-507 operates best on alkaline battaiesl While this unit has been dsiyled with gaskets for water resistance and ruggedness it is a precision piwe of electronic equipment that should not be exposed to water or handled carelessly. Normal care should result in years of trouble free upwation. Do not leave batteries installed over a long period of time as leakage may occur that can destroy the radio, Always save your receipt. as it is required for warranty consideration. PREPARATION BA’l'l'ERES 75-507 radios operate with 4 AAA alkaline batteries or optional Ni-cad batteries Alkaline batteries will provide about 24 hours ofuse, Ni-cad batteries provide about 8 hours of use. The 75-507 is not supplied with Ni—ead batteries and a wall charga or alkaline batteries. Ni—Cad batteries m-t be charged prior to me. Charge time is 10 how's with the wall charger, Do not mix battery types in the radio. To Install Batteries: 1. Hold the radio face down. Press the battery cover firmly at the ridges. 2. Slide the battery cova offthe unit. 3. Insert 4 AAA batteries obsa'w'ng the proper polarity. 4. Replace the battery cover by sliding it up until secure. [aw Battery/Transmit Indicator: The “TX/BAH" LED on the front of the radio will light when the unit is transmitting and when not transmitting if the batteries are low. BELT CLIP The 75-507 comes standard with a belt clip. Attach it to the radio back by sliding the top of the clip up over the two rectangular bases on the back of the radio until it snaps into place. To detach the belt clip, press the lever inside the top of the clip away from the radio body and slide the clip toward the bmtem of the radio. QUICK USE INSTRUCTIONS: Install fresh or fully charged batteries. Attach the antenna. Turn the unit on by turning the volume control clockwise. To talk press the FIT button on the side of the radio and talk into the limit of the radio. To listen release the FTP button. Volume and other functions maybe adjusted as described later. 539.53.— 9‘1‘" POWER SAVE CIRCUIT This part of the operation of the radio is ampletely automatic and not adjustable. When the radio has not transmitted or received a signal for about 8 seconds it will begin to cycle from a sleep mode to fillly on. This occurs several times a second. li'a signal is received or you cause the unit to transmit the radio will become fully awake, This cycling fi'om sleep to fully on increases the standby battery life more than 50%. FEATURES AND LOCATION OF CONTOIS The antenna must be screwed into the connector on top of the radio before using. Do not over-tighten. TOTURNTHERADIOONOROFF The ON/OFF/VOLUME control at the top of the radio controls power and volume. A series of tones will be heard confirming that radio is working. TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL IN USE Press and release the channel button /\ or V In select the desired channel. To change channel rapidly. press and hold the channel button A or V until the desired channel appmrs on the display. Note: The display will shut olf in four seconds if no activity is heard on the channel. T0 SCAN THE CHANNEIS Press the SCAN buttm. The radio will scan to the next busy drannel. Scanning will stop for about 5 seconds then will continue to the next busy channel. Note: The display will not shut at? in scan mode. To stop scanning, press SCAN again or press PTT or a channel button. TO SET UP DUAL WATCH Select a channel with the channel button /\ or V as channel A. Press the DW (dual watch) button. The display will begin to flash. Within 5 seconds, select a second channel as channel B and again press the DW button (Alter S setxmds the radio will beep three times and revert to normal opaation) The radio will switch alternately between channels A and B. Prefiing P'I'I‘, DW, /\ (x V cancels dual watch. TO USE CALL BUTTON Press and release the CALL button. A call signal will be Sfi'li for about 2 swonds. The signal will alsobe heard in the speaker. T0 ENABLE/DISABLE “ROGER—BEEP” With the radio ol£ press and hold the CALL button. Turn on the radio. Release the CALL button when the TX/BATI' indicator is lit. T0 ADJUST THE VOLUME Use the ONIOFFNOLUME control to adjust the volume. To test the volume setting, press the “MON” button so static noise can be heard. The noise can be used as a reference level for volume setting. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM SOLUTION No Power 1. Occasionally allow the batteries to fully discharge before recharging, Full discharge will be indicated by the low battery indicator coming on during receive operation. 2. Always allow the battery to fully charge before using. This requires 10 hours with the included charger. 3. The above will prevent the batteries fi'om developing “memory” which effectively reduces their capacity. 4. It is better to store Ni-Cad batteries that are discharged rather than charged.
