Terms and expressions Operation Press Use your finger to press a hardware button on the vehicle. Touch Use your finger to touch a button, an icon, or other item on the screen. Indicates a button on the screen accompanied by a term enclosed in brackets. Example: [Audio] indicates the following button. Do not attempt to operate the motorcycle until you have attained adequate knowledge of its controls and operating features. Read this audio and navigation system owner’s manual before attempting to operate the audio and navigation system. Become familiar with all controls and stop the vehicle as necessary when operating the audio and navigation system. WARNING Failure to pay attention while riding could result in death or serious injury. Always concentrate on riding by keeping your eyes and mind on the road. Read your owner’s manual. WARNING Safe riding and operation tips Set-up the audio and navigation sys te m (au d i o s o ur c es , vo l um e controls, destination and route, etc) before starting off. Stop the motorcycle in a safe area when making adjustments to the audio and navigation system. Some features are dis a b le d when the vehicle is in motion. Check vehicle messages and take corrective action as necessary. (See page 8-10.) Set volume setting levels low enough that traffic noise (sirens, horns, other vehicles) can still be heard. When using the navigation system, always give precedence to current road and traffic conditions. 1-1 The displayed speed limit is taken from information registered in the navigation system. The actual speed limit may be different. Always ride according to current traffic conditions. Never transmit if any person is closer than the specified distance to the antenna. While a 0 dBi gain antenna is normal for a typical installation, the above limit applies to any antenna with up to 3 dBi gain. Replacement or substitution of crystal, transistors, ICs, regulator diodes, or any other part of a unique nature, with parts other than those recommend by Midland Radio Corporation, may cause violations of the technical regulations in Part 95 of the FCC Rules or in violation of type acceptance requirements in Part 2 of the rules. 1-3 FUNCTION OF PARTS AND CONTROLS System outline ●● look up destinations nationwide. make customized settings according to your preference Handlebar switches The audio and navigation system (hereafter referred to as "the system") allows you to per form variet y of operations via its touchscreen or by using the handlebar mounted controls. (Voice activated controls are also available for equipped models.) You can, for example: ●● play back audio sources such as an FM broadcast, Pandora Internet Radio, etc. ●● make and receive phone calls, SNS messages, and make CB communications. (Some features require accessor y par ts and compatible phones.) ●● use the unit as a navigation device (for GPS equipped models) and Left/right/up/down buttons / / Press these buttons to change the currently highlighted object on the screen. Press to rotate among the preset stations. Press to perform seek function and search for the next receivable frequency. Select button Pr e s s t h i s b u t t o n t o s e l e c t t h e 3-1 currently highlighted object on the screen. Press and hold this button to turn off the display (the audio source will not be turned off). See also “Selecting a target object on the screen” on page 4-4. Home button Press this button to return to the HOME screen at any time, or when on the HOME screen, to cycle between the Audio, Information, and Map HOME screens. Pressing and holding this button sets the currently displayed HOME screen as the default HOME screen. See also “HOME screen operation” on page 4-1. Volume up/down button / Press to increase volume. Press to decrease it. Press and hold to mute the audio source. FUNCTION OF PARTS AND CONTROLS For details, see “Voice recognition function” on page 4-11. To start intercom Talk button (rider) This but ton is used to open the [Teleprompter] screen (activate voice recognition), and activate the CB or intercom. Press and release . The [Teleprompter] screen appears, if so set in advance. When the intercom function is activated, press and hold . While the button is being pressed and held, you can have a conversation with the passenger using the headset and microphone. See “Voice communication using intercom” on page 8-7. TIP Adjust the microphone sensitivity and the volume of the headset correctly. 3-2 When a CB (citizens band) radio is connected and activated starts CB Pressing and holding radio communication. TIP When a CB radio is connected to the vehicle and is activated, and the intercom function also is activated, pressing and holding starts CB radio communication. FUNCTION OF PARTS AND CONTROLS Passenger switches Talk button (passenger) ( ) When the intercom function is activated, pressing and holding ( ) starts intercom. When a CB (citizens band) radio is connected Pressing and holding CB radio communication. Audio connectors 3-3 ) starts These connectors accept USB memory devices and an auxiliary device as audio sources. FUNCTION OF PARTS AND CONTROLS When playing back music stored in a Bluetooth device starts playback of the Pressing previous track. Pressing starts playback of the next track. HOME screen buttons ① ② ③ This button changes the audio source. Additionally, the passenger can press the SRC (source) button to change the currently played audio. ① ① Vehicle information You can change the content of information shown here. ④ ③ ① Touch this button to open the [Menu] screen. ② This is called the home right button. You can assign here one of the following three or four buttons according to your preference. (Audio button) (Phone button) (Function button) (Destination button, available only when the navigation function is activated) 4-3 ④ Touch this button once to change the Information screen. Touch the button repeatedly to change the displayed information on the screen. All the informations displayed are listed in “To view and reset vehicle information” on page 11-2. BASIC OPERATIONS Information on the Audio screen Selecting a target object on the screen WARNING Always stop the vehicle before operating the touchscreen. ① ① Name of the currently played audio and the associated information, such as the frequency for FM, AM and weather band broad cast. T h e t o u c h s c r e e n a l l ows yo u t o perform a variety of operations. Simply touch an object on the screen, and the corresponding operation is made. For example, to open the [Menu] screen from the HOME screen, touch To open the [Menu] screen by using the handlebar switches You can obtain the same result by using the buttons on the vehicle. Pressing the home button also returns you to the HOME screen. 4-5 ENJOYING AUDIO PLAYBACK Station name and content name FM broadcast The passenger can search for the desired station by pressing the REV/ FWD buttons To call up the FM reception screen To preset stations Radio: FM/AM/weather band 1. On the HOME screen, touch [Audio]. Alternatively, touch on the HOME screen, if it is set as the home right button. The audio screen played last is displayed. Audio source selector [Add preset] button and preset stations list To search for the desired station button. Use the Touch to search for the stations with lower frequencies, and with higher frequencies. Repeat this operation until the desired station is received. 2. Touch the audio source selector [FM]. The FM reception screen appears. 6-1 While receiving the station to preset, touch [Add preset], and then a place in the preset stations list where you want to add the station. Frequency and name of the station are added to the preset stations list. To listen to a preset station, scroll up and down the preset stations list, if necessary, and touch the desired station. To select a station by category 1. Touch [Categ]. A list of the program type, such as news, information, sports, talk and so forth, appears. 2. Touch the desired program type. ENJOYING AUDIO PLAYBACK To show the detected stations To make audio settings AM broadcast Touch [List]. I f y o u t o u c h [ L i s t] i m m e d i a t e l y after you turned on the unit, all the detected stations will be shown. If you touch [List] af ter touching [Categ], the detected stations in the specified category will be shown. Touch [PTY name] to show the list of the program type, as you can do so by touching [Categ]. Touch The following screen appears. To call up the AM reception screen 1. On the HOME screen, touch [Audio]. Alternatively, touch on the HOME screen, if it is set as the home right button. The audio screen played last is displayed. Audio source selector The screen is identical to the one which is displayed by the following procedure: 1. Go to [Setting] menu. 2. Touch the category selector [Audio]. For details on how to make audio settings, see the respective descriptions in “Audio settings". 6-2 ENJOYING AUDIO PLAYBACK 2. Touch the audio source selector [AM]. The AM reception screen appears. Station name and frequency To preset stations While receiving the station to preset, touch [Add preset], and then a place in the preset stations list where you want to add the station. Frequency and name of the station are added to the preset stations list. To listen to a preset station, touch the desired station on the preset station list. To preset stations automatically [Add preset] button and preset stations list To search for the desired station button. Use the Touch to search for the stations with lower frequencies, and with higher frequencies. Repeat this operation until the desired station is received. The passenger can search for the desired station by pressing the REV/ FWD buttons The following screen appears. Touch [Auto.P]. Scanning starts and the detected stations (up to five) will automatically be preset and added to the preset stations list. To show the detected stations Touch [List]. Scanning starts and the detected stations will be shown. To listen to a detected station, touch the desired station on the list. To make audio settings Touch 6-3 The screen is identical to the one which is displayed by the following procedure: 1. Go to [Setting] menu. 2. Touch the category selector [Audio]. For details on how to make audio settings, see the respective descriptions in “Audio settings". ENJOYING AUDIO PLAYBACK Weather band broadcast To call up the weather band reception screen 2. Touch the audio source selector [WB]. The weather band reception screen appears. 1. On the HOME screen, touch [Audio]. Alternatively, touch on the HOME screen, if it is set as the home right button. The audio screen played last is displayed. While receiving the station to preset, touch [Add preset], and then a place in the preset stations list where you want to add the station. Frequency and name of the station are added to the preset stations list. To listen to a preset station, touch the desired station on the preset station list. To be notified immediately when there is a weather alert Audio source selector To preset stations [Add preset] button and preset stations list To search for the desired station button. Use the Touch to search for the stations with lower frequencies, and with higher frequencies. Repeat this operation until the desired station is received. The passenger can search for the desired station by pressing the REV/ FWD buttons 6-4 Touch [Alert]. Each time you touch [Alert], [Alert OFF] on the screen changes to [Alert ON], and vice versa. When [Alert ON] is displayed, you will be notified that a weather alert is broadcasted on the weather band during route guidance, for example. [Alert ON] is also displayed on the Audi o s c reen s et a s the H O ME screen. COMMUNICATION The system provides you various ways to make communication. ●● Phone communication using a smar tphone c onnec ted to the system via Bluetooth ●● Voice communication between rider and passenger ●● C B ( c i t i z e n s b a n d ) r a d i o communication using a CB radio device connected to the vehicle ●● Reception of SMS messages ●● Reception of messages from the vehicle [Communication] menu Call up the [Communication] menu to perform communication-related operations. 1. On the HOME screen, touch [COMMS]. The [Communication] menu appears. To make communication settings On the [Communication] menu, touch [Setting]. The following screen appears. The screen is identical to the one which is displayed by the following procedure: 1. Go to [Setting] menu. 2. Touch the category selector [Communi.]. For details on how to make communication settings, see the respective descriptions in “Communication settings". 8-1 COMMUNICATION CB (citizens band) radio communication To turn on/off the CB radio communication If a CB radio device is connected to the vehicle, you can make CB radio communication. If the CB radio communication is turned off, touch [ON] to turn it on. The [ON] button changes to [OFF]. Touch [OFF] to turn the CB radio communication off. To call up the CB radio communication screen 1. O p e n t h e [ C o m m u n i c a t i o n ] menu. See “[Communication] menu” on page 8-1. 2. Touch [CB Radio]. The [CB Radio] screen appears. Yo u c a n t u r n o n t h e C B r a d i o c ommunication by pressing and holding the talk button The passenger can also turn on the CB radio communication by pressing and holding the talk button ( ). CB radio communication status To change the channel button. Use the Touch to change the channel to lower frequency, and touch to change the channel to higher frequency. Note that when CH1 is selected and you touch , CH40 will be selected; when CH40 is selected and you touch , CH1 will be selected. To preset the currently selected channel Touch [Add preset], and then a place in the preset channels list where you want to add the channel. The channel will be added to the preset channels list. To adjust squelch sensitivity You can adjust the squelch sensitibity o f t h e C B r a d i o d ev i c e s o t h a t the best possible communication condition is obtained. Touch or to adjust sensitivity. The adjustable range is from 0/14 to 14/14. Receiving text messages from other cell phones/smartphones If the connected phone device, such as a smartphone, corresponds to a short message service (SMS), you can view received messages on the screen. The icon appears when there is an SMS message. 1. Open the [Communication] menu. See “[Communication] menu” on page 8-1. 2. Touch [SMS]. The [SMS] screen appears. The message received last appears on the top. 8-9 3. Touch or , if necessary, and touch the message you want to read. The header and the message are displayed. SETTINGS The [Setting] menu allows you to make various settings so that you can operate the unit under the most preferable conditions. The following table shows you an overview of the [Setting] menu. Category selector To select the category There are five categories in the [Setting] menu; [General], [Communi.], [Audio], [Navigation], and [Sirius XM]. To select the category, touch the category selector, and then touch the desired category. If you select the [Audio] category, for example, the [Audio] setting menu appears. General settings Use the [General] setting menu to set various usage conditions of the system. To view and reset vehicle information 1. Go to [Setting] menu. 2. Touch [Vehicle info.]. The [Vehicle info.] screen appears. 3. Touch or to display the preceeding/succeeding items. There are three [Vehicle info.] screens: [Group 1], [Group 2], and [Group 3]. 11-2 11 SETTINGS The [Vehicle info.] screens show you the following vehicle related informations. Go to [Setting] menu. 2. Touch [Home screen]. The [Home screen] screen appears. you assign the Audio screen as the HOME screen. To define the home right button To assign a HOME screen You can assign the following two (or three) screens as the HOME screen: ●● Information screen ●● Audio screen ●● Map screen To assign one of the above screens as the HOME screen, touch [Home screen] and touch the screen name you want to set as the HOME screen. To define the home right button, touch [Home right key], and touch the desired button name. The following example shows that you select the Phone button as the home right button. 11 This button can be changed, according to your preference, to one 11-4 SETTINGS To set the display brightness 1. Go to [Setting] menu. 2. Touch [Display]. The [Display] screen appears. To activate the auto brightness function When you activate the auto brightness func tion, the display brightness changes according to the ambient lightness. Touch [Auto brightness] so that a checkmark is added. Touch [Auto brightness] again to d e a c t i va t e t h e a u t o b r i g h t n e s s function. If you select [Auto], the playback sound will be heard from all the speakers sequentially at an interval of 3 seconds. [Fr Headset]/[Rr Headset] You can select a headset from among front left, front right, rear left, and rear right. The playback sound of the selected audio source will be heard from the selected headset. You can select multiple headsets. If you select [Mic] and one of the headsets, you can speak into the microphone, and your speech will be heard from the selected headset. To view and set the system information 1. Go to [Setting] menu. 2. Touch three times [System info.]. The [System info.] screen appears. To copy the system information to a USB memory device On the first [System info.] screen, touch [Export]. Thus you can copy the Production ID and the device ID along with the navigation information to a USB memory device. To update the system 3. Touch to view the second [System info.] screen. 11-13 Connect the USB memory device containing the system software and the map data of the latest version to the vehicle. On the first [System info.] screen, touch [Update]. SETTINGS Communication settings Use the [Communi.] setting menu to make the communication-related settings, such as the settings for Bluetooth, the settings for phone communication, etc. 3. To search for a Bluetooth device and establish connection with the device (pairing) The system allows you to search for a nearby Bluetooth device such as a smartphone, view the detected Bluetooth device name, and establish connection with the Bluetooth device. To turn on/off the Bluetooth communication To use a Bluetooth device such as a smartphone with the system, you must first turn on the Bluetooth communication of the system. On the [Bluetooth] screen, touch [Bluetooth] so that a checkmark is added, and the Bluetooth communication is turned on. To turn it off, touch [Bluetooth] again so that the checkmark is removed. 11-14 11 SETTINGS Proceed as follows. 1. O n t h e [ B l u e t o o t h ] s c r e e n , touch [Search device]. If a Bluetooth device is detected, its name will be displayed, as shown in the following example. 2. To u c h t h e B u e t o o t h d e v i c e name. A confirmation window like the following appears. 11 3. Touch [Pair]. If a message appears on the Bluetooth device that prompts you to confirm pairing, operate as requested. To cancel pairing, touch [Don’t Pair]. When connection with the Bluetooth device is successfully established, the [Paired device list] screen appears. : Internet connection When this function is available, the PANDRA application on the Bluetooth device, for example, is correctly connected to the system. Touch any one of the icons so that the background turns white, and the corresponding function is disabled. Note that only functions provided with the Bluetooth device can be set available. TIP Up to eight Bluetooth devices can be paired with the system. On the [Paired device list] screen, you can confirm the available functions of the paired Bluetooth device. The following icons indicate that the corresponding function is available when the background is black. : Hands-free phone : Music playback 11-15 SETTINGS To make a Bluetooth device search for the system and establish connection 1. O n t h e [ B l u e t o o t h ] s c r e e n , touch [Make system discoverable]. The following confirmation window appears. The system now allows the Bluetooth device to detect it. 2. Operate the Bluetooth device to search for another Bluetooth device, and when the system is detected under the name “yamaha”, continue operation to establish connection with the system within the indicated time. To show the [Paired device list] screen On the [Bluetooth] screen, touch [Paired device list]. When you touch a paired Bluetooth device name, the screen changes as follows. To cancel pairing with the Bluetooth device, touch [Delete pairing]. To make functions of the Bluetooth device (hands-free phone/music p l a y b a c k / i n t e r n e t c o n n e c t i o n) available, touch [Connect all]. To make functions of the Bluetooth device unavailable, touch [Disconnect all]. 11-16 To turn on/off the roaming warning When a paired Bluetooth device sends a roaming warning message, the system allows you to view it on the screen. A roaming message will be displayed when, for example, you are out of the area covered by the SIM card in your Bluetooth device, such as a smartphone. To view the warning message, turn on the roaming warning. Proceed as follows. 1. On the [Bluetooth] screen, touch to display the succeeding items. 2. Touch [Show roaming warning] so that a checkmark is added. To turn off the roaming warning, touch [Show roaming warning] again so that the checkmark is removed. 11 SETTINGS To change the system’s name as a Bluetooth device At the time of purchase, the system has a name “yamaha” as a Bluetooth device.
