TRANSMIT (TX) ICON – Indicatesradio is transmitting a signal.2. VOLUME METER – Indicates the volume setting of the radio.3. RECEIVE (RX) ICON – Indicatesradio is receiving a transmission.4. Youmust be licensed prior to operating on channels 1 - 7 or 15 - 22, whichcomprise the GMRS channels of the radios. Serious penalties could resultfrom unlicensed use of GMRS channels, in violation of FCC rules, asstipulated in the Communications Acts Sections 501 and 502 (amended).You will be issued a call sign by the FCC which should be used for stationidentification when operating the radio on GMRS channels. The belt clip should be removed to ease installation or removalof the batteries. To install the batteries:1. With the back of the radio facing you, remove the belt clip (see diagrambelow) for easy access, then remove the Battery Cover by pressing down on the top center and sliding it down from the radio.2. Insert 3 AAA batteries observing the polarity as shown on the Battery Compartment. Installing the batteries incorrectly will prevent the unit from operating or may damage the unit.3. Return the Battery Cover by sliding it up on the radio. Replace the belt clip, making sure it locks into place.BATTERYCOMPARTMENTBATTERYCOMPARTMENTCOVERPress here and push down to openBELT CLIPLOCK TABBELT CLIP LATCHCHARGING THE BATTERYYour radio is equipped for using rechargeable NiMH batteries which can berecharged by inserting the AC adapter into the radio charge jack. Initialcharge time is 24 hours. Charge time is about 12 hours thereafter. Formaximum battery life, we recommend charging the batteries when the lowbattery icon comes on. Remove the radios from the charger when thecharge time expires.1. Only use our NiMH batteries.2. Do not attempt to charge alkaline batteries or any batteries or battery packs other than the one indicated in the manual. This may cause leakage and damage to the radio.3. For long term storage of the radio, turn the radio OFF and remove the batteries from the radio.EXTERNAL SPEAKER/MICROPHONE JACKTo use an optional speaker / microphone or headset:lInsert the plug(s) into the SPK/MIC jacks.lPlace the earbud into your ear, and adjust the mic to your desired position.!SPK MICCHGPOWER ON/OFF AND VOLUMEPress the POWER/MODE button for at least 3 seconds to turn the radioon/off. To increase/decrease the volume level, press the ss\ttbuttonsduring RX or STANDBY mode. The VOLUME METER will indicate thevolume setting of the radio.TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING A CALL1. For maximum clarity, hold the radio 2 to 3 inches from your mouth.2. Press and hold the PTT button and speak in a normal voice into the microphone. The TX icon will appear continuously on the LCD displaywhile transmitting.3. To receive a call, release the PTT button. The RX icon will appear on the display when your radio is receiving a transmission.SCANYour radio can scan all 22 channels for activity. To enter, quickly press theSCAN button. Repeat the same procedure to exit. Your radio will rapidlyscan each of the 22 channels and stop on any active channel for 4 secondsbefore resuming scan. When you press the PTT button to transmit on anactive channel, the scanning function will stop and remain on the activechannel. To resume scanning, quickly press the SCAN button.CALL ALERTYour radio can transmit a call alert. To send, press the PTT button twicerapidly. The TX icon will appear while transmitting a call alert and a tonecan be heard on the speaker for confirmation. KEYPAD LOCKPress the LOCK button for 4 seconds. The “Lo” icon will appear on thedisplay. PTT will still be active. Repeat the same procedure to unlock thekeypad, a “LF” icon will appear on the display.CHANNEL SELECTION (GMRS/FRS BAND)Press the MODE button once, and then the ss\ttbuttons to select one ofthe 22 GMRS/FRS channels. To confirm the selection, press the PTTbutton or press the MODE button again to move to the next feature setting.Note : To communicate between two radios, all radios in your group mustbe set to the same channel.VOXTo turn VOX on, press the MODE button twice, the display shows “VOX”blinking while below the “oF” icon appears. Select “on” by pressing thess\ttbuttons and push the PTT key or the MODE button again to confirm. To turn VOX off, press the MODE button twice, the display shows “VOX”blinking while below the “on” icon appears. Select “oF” by pressing thess\ttbuttons and push the PTT key or the MODE button again to confirm.OPERATING YOUR RADIORev E
