How do I make my phone work? 95 Specific Absorption Rate Data DR The model wireless phone meets the government’s requirements for exposure to radio waves. Your wireless phone is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed and manufactured not to exceed limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the U.S. Government and by the Canadian regulatory authorities. These limits are part of comprehensive guidelines and establish permitted levels of RF energy for the general population. The guidelines are based on standards that were developed by independent scientific organizations through periodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The standards include a substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age or health. AF The exposure standard for wireless mobile phones employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC and by the Canadian regulatory authorities is 1.6 W/ kg.1 Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operating positions accepted by the FCC and by Industry Canada with the phone transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR level of the phone while operating can be well below the maximum value. This is because the phone is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the power required to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a wireless base station, the lower the power output. Before a phone model is available for sale to the public in the U.S. and Canada, it must be tested and certified to the FCC and Industry Canada that it does not exceed the limit established by each government for safe exposure. The tests are performed in positions and locations (e.g., at the ear and worn on the body) reported to the FCC and available for review by Industry Canada. The highest SAR value for this model phone when tested for use at the ear is 1.13 W/kg, and when worn on the body, as 96 described in this user guide, is 0.45 W/kg. (Body-worn measurements differ among phone models, depending upon available accessories and regulatory requirements).2 DR While there may be differences between the SAR levels of various phones and at various positions, they all meet the governmental requirements for safe exposure. Please note that improvements to this product model could cause differences in the SAR value for later products; in all cases, products are designed to be within the guidelines. Additional information on Specific Absorption Rates (SAR) can be found on the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) Web site: http://www.phonefacts.net or the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) Web site: AF http://www.cwta.ca 1. In the United States and Canada, the SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 1.6 watts/kg (W/kg) averaged over one gram of tissue. The standard incorporates a substantial margin of safety to give additional protection for the public and to account for any variations in measurements. 2. The SAR information includes the Motorola testing protocol, assessment procedure, and measurement uncertainty range for this product. 97 Index DR accessories 9, 23 alert 20, 33 animation 8 date setting 20 default password 26, 76 dialled calls list 26 display 24 DTMF tones 66 earpiece 13, 90, 93 email address 43 emergency number 26 entry method 17 event alert 20 exchange rate 72 calculator 72 call making and answering 13 call barring 36 call cost information 69 call timers 67 call waiting 33 caller ID 25 chat 49 clock 71 codes 75, 76 contrast display 94 98 AF backlight 21 barring calls 36 battery 10 extending battery life 10 browser 43 cost tracker 68 credit information 69 currency converter 72 cursor 21 customizing the menu 59 factory setting 22 fixed dial 56 flashing phone indicator 35 microphone 1, 90 missed call indicator 29 my telephone number 24 MyMenu 62 DR ignoring a call 28 inbox text message 39 incoming call 26 indicators 14, 88 iTap 17 key left soft key 1 soft keys illustration 1 keypad volume 20 navigation key 1 notepad 30 numeric text mode 17 optional accessory 9 optional feature 9 outbox 42 AF language setting 61 Last Call menu 65 left soft key functions 1 lock 74 passwords 94 phonebook 53 PIN code 77 profile 14 quick dial 33 master clear 22 master reset 22 menu indicator 15 menu key 1, 37 message indicator 15 messaging 39 micro-browser 78 received calls list 68 recent calls 67 redial 25 reminders 51 resetting call timers 67, 68 99 S DR soft keys illustration 1 storing a call 31 symbol characters, entering 17 tap method text entry 17 text message 39 text, entering 17 time setting 20 timers 22 unlock code 12, 75 AF wallpaper 60 U.S. patent Re. 34,976 100 vibrate alert 92 viewing messages 42 viewing recent calls 28 voicemail 30 volume 13 DR AF 101 DR AF 102 motorola.com
