Whenyou communicate with your mobile device, the system handlingyour call controls the power level at which your mobile device transmits. Your mobile device is designedto comply withlocal regulatory requirements in your country concerning exposure of human beings to RF energy. 61 RF Energy Operational Precautions Foroptimal mobile device performance, and to be sure that human exposure to RF energy does not exceed the guidelines set forth in the relevantstandards, always follow these instructions andprecautions: • Whenplacing orreceiving a phonecall, hold your mobile device just like youwould a landlinephone. • If youwear the mobile device on your body, always placethe mobile devicein a Motorola-suppliedorapprovedclip, holder, holster, case, or body harness. Ifyou do not usea body-worn accessory supplied orapprovedby Motorola, keep the mobile device and its antenna at least 2.5cm (1 inch) from your body when transmitting. • Using accessories not supplied orapproved by Motorolamay cause yourmobiledevice toexceed RF energy exposureguidelines. For a list of Motorola-supplied or approved accessories, visit ourwebsite at: www.motorola.com. RF Energy Interference/Compatibility Nearly every electronic deviceis subjectto RF energy interference fromexternal sources if inadequately shielded, designed, or otherwise configured for RF energy compatibility. In some circumstances, your mobile devicemay cause interference with other devices. Follow Instructions to Avoid Interference Problems Turn off yourmobiledevice in any locationwhereposted notices instructyou to doso. In an aircraft, turnoff your mobile devicewheneverinstructed to doso by airline staff. If your mobile device offers anairplane modeor similarfeature, consultairlinestaff about using it in flight. Specific Absorption Rate (IEEE) SAR I( EEE) YOUR MOBILE DEVICE MEETS FCC LIMITS FOR EXPOSURE TO RADIO WAVES. Your mobile device is aradio transmitterand receiver. Itis designed notto exceed the limits for exposuretoradio waves (radio frequency electromagnetic fields) adopted by the Federal Communications Commission(FCC). Theselimits include asubstantial safety margin designedto assurethe safety of all persons, regardless of age andhealth. Theradio wave exposureguidelines use a unit of measurement knownas the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit for mobile devices is 1.6W/kg. Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operatingpositions with the device transmittingat its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. The highest SAR values under theFCC guidelines for your devicemodel are listed below: HeadSAR CDMA 800/1900, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 0.77W/kg Body-worn SAR CDMA 800/1900, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 1. 46W/kg Duringuse, the actual SAR values for your deviceareusually well below the values stated. This is because, for purposes of system efficiency and to minimizeinterference on thenetwork, the operating power of your mobile device is automatically decreased when full poweris not needed for thecall. The lowerthepower outputof thedevice, the lower its SAR value. Body-worn SAR testing has beencarriedout usingan approvedaccessory or at a separationdistance of 2.5cm(1inch). Tomeet RF exposure guidelines duringbody-worn operation, the deviceshould be in anapproved accessory or positioned at least2.5 cm (1 inch) away from the body. If youare not using an approved accessory, ensure that whatever product is used is free of any metal and that it positions thephone atleast 2.5 cm (1inch) away from thebody. See www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazard ouswaste/pe rchlorate There is nospecial handling required by consumers. Per ch lor ate Label Hearing Aid Compatibility with Mobile Phones Some Motorolaphones are measured for compatibility withhearing aids. If the box for your particular model has “Rated forHearingAids” printed on it, the following explanation applies. Whensome mobile phones are usednearsomehearing devices (hearingaids andcochlear implants), users may detect abuzzing, humming, or whiningnoise. Some hearing devices are more immune than others to this interferencenoise, andphones also vary inthe amountof interferencethey generate. Thewireless telephone industry has developedratings for some of their mobilephones, to assist hearingdevice users in finding phones that may be compatiblewith their hearing devices. Not all phones have beenrated. Phones thatare rated have the rating on their box ora label on thebox. Tomaintainthe publishedHearingAidCompatibility (HAC) rating for this mobilephone, use only the original equipment battery model. This phone has been tested andrated for usewith hearing aids forsome of the wireless technologies that it uses. However, there may besomenewerwireless technologies used in this phone thathavenot been tested yet foruse with hearingaids. It is important to try the different features of this phone thoroughly and in different locations, using your hearingaid or cochlearimplant, todetermine if youhear any interferingnoise. Contact your serviceprovider orMotorola for informationon hearing aid compatibility. If you have questions aboutreturn or exchangepolicies, contact your service provider or phone retailer. The ratings are notguarantees. Results will vary depending onthe user’s hearingdevice and hearing loss. Ifyour hearingdevice happens to bevulnerableto interference, you may not be able to usea rated phone successfully. Trying out the phone with your hearing device is the best way toevaluate it for your personal needs. Hear ing Ai dC ompat i bil it y M-Ratings: Phones ratedM3or M4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to generate less interference to hearingdevices than phones that are not labeled. M4 is the better/higher of the two ratings. T-Ratings: Phones rated T3 or T4 meetFCC requirements and arelikely tobemore usable with a hearing device’s telecoil (“T Switch” or “TelephoneSwitch”) than unrated phones. T4 is the better/higher of the two ratings. (Notethat notall hearing devices have telecoils in them.) Hearing devices may alsobe measured for immunity to this typeof interference. Your hearing devicemanufacturer or hearinghealthprofessional may help you find results for your hearing device. Themore immune your hearingaid is, the less likely you are to experience interference noise from mobile phones.
