5Important safety informationRemember to follow any special regulations governing the use ofthe MIST FREEDOM II-D and always switch it off in areas whereradio devices are forbidden, or when it may cause interference ordanger. Any safety laws and regulations pertaining to the use ofcell phones and two-way radios will likely apply to your use of thePOS. We encourage you to follow such laws and regulations atall times. In particular, please observe all restrictions on the useof radio equipment in fuel depots (fuel storage and distributionareas), chemical plants, where blasting operations are inprogress or in any other area in which restrictions on radiotransmissions are imposed.The MIST FREEDOM II-D is not an FAA-approved electronicdevice for use on aircraft. Switch off the POS when in an aircraft.The effect of the use of the POS in an aircraft is unknown. Suchuse may affect aircraft instrumentation, communication andperformance, may disrupt the network, and may be illegal.Operation of any radio transmitting equipment, including thePOS, may interfere with the functionality of inadequatelyprotected medical devices, including pacemakers. Consult aphysician or the manufacturer of the medical device if you haveany questions.Additionally, the effect of the radio signals from the POS on otherelectronic systems, including those in your car (such aselectronic fuel-injection systems, electronic anti-skid brakingsystems, and electronic cruise-control systems) is unknown andmalfunction of these systems may result.Avoid using the POS in any environment requiring your fullattention, such as when driving a vehicle.Do not use any accessory that is not manufactured or suppliedby MIST or an authorized MIST accessories supplier. 8IntroductionThank you for purchasing MIST FREEDOM II-D.  We areconfident that the MIST FREEDOM II-D you purchased will meetyour exacting world-class quality standards. MIST FREEDOM II-D is a small, hand-held, wireless electronic transaction terminalthat communicates with a remote host computer via the wirelessnetwork. MIST FREEDOM II allows several modem options forcommunicating to different network systems, such as CDPD,Mobitex, and DataTAC modem.MIST’s goal is to design and build POS (Point of Sales) deviceswith complete customer satisfaction in mind.  To help ensuretrouble free operation of your device, please spend a fewminutes to read this manual carefully and follow itsrecommendations.

16Power InformationBattery Maintenance- New battery’s full performance is achieved onlyafter two or three complete charge and dischargecycles.- Keep the devices and batteries clean and dry.- Protect against a short circuit when the battery isnot installed in the device.- If the device will not be used for and extendedtime, take the battery out of the device.- All rechargeable batteries have a limited life. If afully charged battery no longer provides anacceptable performance, please replace with anew battery from MIST.
17Power InformationDC AdapterMIST FREEDOM II-D can also use 9V, 1A Output UnregulatedDC Adapter.*Please use only adapters provided by MIST. Use of other powersources may result in damage to your unit.Using the DC Adapter and the Internal ChargerUsing the DC Adapter, you can plug your POS device directlyinto a power supply and charge attached batteries. If you turn offthe device, the internal charger will charge the batteriesautomatically.  If you turn on the device, charging will take moretime. Charging will stop during radio transmission and printing.1. Plug the DC adapter into the power source.2. Plug the DC adapter into the Power Jack on the bottom ofthe device.
18ConnectionConnecting to the Serial PortPlug the Serial Cable into the Serial Port on the bottom of thedevice, and plug the other end of the Serial Cable into theperipheral in use.* When unplugging the Serial Port from the device, please pressthe Release Tabs to release the hooks.
19Operating the Integrated PrinterIntegrated Thermal PrinterMIST FREEDOM II-D integrates a thermal printer for the user toprint receipt.1. Press Paper Feed Button (on the top of the Display) tomake the printer sensor standby 60 sec for paper insert.2. Open the Paper Door at the back of the device.
20Operating the Integrated Printer3. Insert the paper in the gap of the paper entrance.4. The sensor will feed the paper in the printerautomatically.- Make sure that the paper is overted as shownabove as the thermal paper will work only in onedirection. (If you do not see any printing, the paperis in backwards, re-insert the other way around.)- Do not try to pull paper through the printermanually.- If you want to eject paper from the device,  youmust cut the paper from the paper roll, and pressthe paper feed key to eject the rest of paper in thedevice.
